It's as good a spot as any I suppose....

But...if I'm not mistaken, a kid can appear in up to 4 games and then still redshirt.

Why use him in a meaningless game, when possibly he could play in say, an Ohio State game or a conference championship game and still redshirt?

Yeah, but this also gives him a chance to build some confidence and play in adverse weather conditions.   Besides, is he really going to play in either of those types of games as a true frosh?  If he does, it's going to be because of injury IMHO.

Maybe he won't redshirt.   If he is as good as advertised he will leave early anyway.  Might as well use him for the whole season now.

Just keep winning and those problems will sort themselves out.  Only one of the SEC teams can go undefeated, so Wisconsin would pass two more of them (in addition to Auburn), and this implies Wisconsin beats tOSU.

Of course, "just keep winning" seems to be the difficult part for Wisconsin, with the farthest they've gotten before losing being the B1G championship game.

Not sure which talking head said it this weekend but something to the effect "Wisconsin is in the playoff hunt albeit on the bubble"  I agree that just keep winning and things will sort themselves out but man at some point I would like UW to not be talked about like they are Rodney Dangerfield.

I think it's the same issue it always is with Wisconsin: confidence in the QB. Coan's stats are fine for what that offense does, he's efficient and not prone to costly mistakes it seems, but right now the likely 4 playoff teams are Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and OSU with LSU and Georgia in the mix as well. Those teams all have QBs that are blowing up...Lawrence with Clemson has been a little subdued compared to the others, but confidence is already sky high with him. I don't watch Coan and see someone who is on par with these other QBs. Until they can find another Russell Wilson or if Coan proves he's in the vein of Jake Fromm, Greg McElroy, AJ McCarron, Matt Flynn, etc. (i.e. a quality game manager who can do enough to win) then they won't get the playoff respect that their running game and defense deserve.

Ultimately Wisconsin's level of respect will be decided in 3 weeks when they play OSU. Beat OSU now and probably again in the B1G Championship and they will get playoff consideration. The playoffs will likely be 1 team from the B1G, SEC, B12, and ACC and if Wisconsin wins out then they won't get screwed. If they beat OSU and then stumble then the SEC will get 2 teams in the playoffs.
