“In the fifth of a second between his contact with (Leigh) Torrence and his likely impact with the ground, three arms keep the play alive: Cobb’s right arm, and the arms of running back John Kuhn. For less than a third of a second, these arms support the majority of Cobb’s weight, but it’s all the time he needs to get his feet back under him.”

Isn't there a rule against aiding a ball carrier?

I wondered when the play happened if what Kuhn did was illegal.

Personally I don't think Kuhn helped Cobb keep his feet....but if he did....is that against the rules?

if it is they don't call it anymore. it happens and I can't remember it being called at all. after a turnover other defensive players often help their teammate back to his feet if recovering the turnover took him to the ground.
The intent of the rule is to keep a offensive player from PUSHING a ball carried forward. For example, on a Bart Star QB sneak, the running back might run into the pile with his hands up showing the zebra that he is not assisting. Just a random example.
From Ask Vic @ Packers.com:

I have read a few comments on various football websites and some people are saying Cobb's touchdown return was illegal and that a flag should have been thrown when Kuhn helped Cobb regain his balance. Is there any truth to this?

The rules that govern assisting a runner are gray and confusing. One offensive player is not permitted “to lift a runner to his feet or pull him in any direction, or use his hands or arms to encircle the body of a teammate, or push or throw his body against a teammate to aid him in an attempt to obstruct an opponent or to recover a loose ball.” The rules, however, do allow an offensive player to push or shove a runner over the goal line. In other words, it’s open to interpretation and in the case of Cobb and Kuhn, it must’ve been decided that Kuhn didn’t lift, pull, encircle or do any of that other stuff you’re not supposed to do that doesn’t make any sense to me. I think the Packers got a break on that one.
I believe in this instance, it was deemed "unintentional". They just happened to be in the same place at the same time and it was just a reaction by Kuhn that he ended up helping Cobb keep his feet.
