Text messages suggest Tom Brady had knowledge of deflating

Of all the elements of the Ted Wells report which cast Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in a poor light, a series of text message exchanges between the pair of guys who got game balls where they needed to be and when are near the top of the list.

The messages, not all of which are able to be reprinted here on a family website, give a pretty strong suggestion that not only was Brady in on the deflation, but that he was signing autographs in exchange for special treatment.

The messages between Jim McNally [the officials locker room attendant] and John Jastremski [a Patriots equipment assistant] show a level of detail and planning that indicates this wasnโ€™t a random, or one-time occurrence.

The first exchange was after an Oct. 17, 2014 game against the Jets when Brady complained about the pressure of the balls.

Jastremski wrote โ€œTom sucks. im going make that next ball a fโ€”in balloon.โ€

McNally replied: โ€œTalked to him last night. He actually brought you up and said you must have a lot of stress trying to get them doneโ€ฆโ€

McNally, apparently not a fan of Bradyโ€™s (or at least his level of attention of air pressure) made several references to pumping the balls up to โ€œwatermleonโ€ or โ€œrugbyโ€ size, since Brady preferred softer ones for better control.

Prior to the next game, McNally wrote: โ€œThe only thing deflating sun..is his passing rating.โ€

There was then a discussion of McNally receiving free shoes and gear, and prior to the Jan. 10 game against the Ravens, the two of them were in the equipment room with Brady when McNally โ€œreceived two footballs autographed by Brady and also had Brady autograph a game-worn Patriots jersey that McNally previously had obtained.โ€

McNally later referred to himself as โ€œthe deflator,โ€ and chided Jastremski by saying โ€œim not going to espnโ€ฆโ€ฆ..yet.โ€..

Those exchanges make it hard to imagine Brady had no knowledge of whatโ€™s going on, which heโ€™ll need to answer for later.

If enough of the NFL fan base becomes convinced that the fix is in with the game, it will be the ultimate in killing the golden goose.

And Roger and these f-in billionaires are arrogant enough, pompous enough, and ignorant enough to watch it happen then stand there wondering WTF just happened.

With the game getting increasingly paranoid over lawsuits with injuries, throw in an acceptance of cheating from a "premiere" franchise and this will be the kiss of death of the NFL.

I know I may be on an island here, but I could care less about this. I think all the teams cheat in their own way. Patriots got caught. Suspend Brady or whatever makes you firm. They won the SB and probably had diffeurent advantages than other teams had. This isn't Daniel Almante helping NY win the Little League WS when he was 22 years old. I gest, but it's over and done with. Beat the effin Patriots. Eff their deflated testicles. That's not why they won.

Pat fans seem to be embracing the cheaters badge and wear it with honor. "So effing what if we cheated. Super Bowl win bitches!!!!" is the rallying cry. It's the corner they've been backed into.

Would GB fans be good with another SB or two if it was proven they skirted a few rules? I'd like to say I wouldn't but I don't know. It would suck to have to defend something like that (and lose) in 10 years, 20 years.

Brady is the big loser here. He's never shedding those texts. And what kind of dumbass leaves a trail like that?

The NCAA makes wins and titles just disappear, maybe the NFL will too now. Nobody won the  Super Bowl during the 2014 season. The Pats had their title taken away for cheating for umpteenth time.   That and suspend Brady for the 1st 6 games of the 2015 season and take away their 1st round draft choice in 2016.  Make it hurt Roger.  This is worse than what some players are suspended for.

I don't think it's really any kind of competitive advantage. It's not like it came down to 1 final perfectly thrown ball, it was a blowout.

The Pats deserve punishment because they keep getting caught doing stupid things that provide them with a minimal amount of advantage. I'm sure every team bends the rules like this, but somehow one of the smartest, most consistent organizations in the league keeps getting caught. I don't think it's because they necessarily have a target on their backs either, I think they're just too arrogant to cover their tracks. For that alone they deserve to be punished. Give Brady a 2 game suspension, they forfeit a 4th round pick, and they donate to some charity. It's a non-issue IMO, but they deserve being punished for being so sloppy.
