He had a nice game.
It is pre-season, but I think our QB depth is much better than Hundley, Kizer, or Callahan ever were, and even better than T Hill and Boyle. I believe the QB room is in a better place than it was under the previous regime...
He certainly has a better release and arm strength.

Benkert shows the stuff I think coaches would want to see from their 'projects'; poised in the pocket, reading the defense and processing what he sees, decision making, keeping his eyes downfield when a play breaks down, etc., etc.
Too many other guys want to pull the ball down and take off running or heave a poor throw into double coverage under the first sign of pressure. I haven't seen that from Love or Benkert.

It happens every year. "Player XXXXX", there's NO way he will make the practice squad. He was so awesome in game 2!! Then 98% of the time he ends up on the PS.

Benkert, Boyle, etc. Are these guys as good as Blake Bortles, a guy you can sign off the street any time you get the itch for a backup QB? There's going to be over a dozen Benkert/Boyle/Bortles type guys out there next week with no spot on an NFL roster. All more than happy to sign a contract should Rodgers and Love both end up injured somehow.

Use that QB3 spot on a guy that might at least help out on ST's.

Gute would have made the trade, but Gute wanted 3 first round picks, 2 second round picks, 1 fourth rounder, and 2 sixth rounders, and the receiving team to pay ALL of Benkert's salary for the year.  Then Gute could use those picks to trade up and draft a QB that could take Love's job.  Nothing like solidifying QB drama in GB for the next 15 years.
