After re-watching all of Love's snaps vs Philly, I am firmly on the "trade Rodgers," bandwagon and get what you can for him.

This team likely isn't a year away, and two years away may be a stretch.

Get a new DC, go get some real fucking weapons to compliment Watson and Doobie. You are going to lose the "wow" throws we've become accustomed to with 12...but you are also going to lose the "fuck it," throws where in the attempt to make something good happen, something bad happens.

You are going to lose a signal caller, who by all accounts is smarter than the guy calling the plays, but you are also going to lose the baggage that comes with that.

Love may not be the future of the Packers QB legacy...but he deserves the chance to try and make it happen. He might be the next Daniel Jones, but he might also be the next Joe Burrow. Time to find out.

Late to the bandwagon.

Last year should have taken the Let’s ride deal.

Should have also been sellers at this years trade deadline.

Straddled with sone bad contracts.  We are 3 years away from being 3 years away - led by the current regime.

The coaching staff is just pure garbage.  I’ve piled on Rodgers plenty but you listen to MLF and the more he talks the more he sounds like a total dipshit.

I thought MM was bad.  Alert the media MLF is worse.  Joe Barry shouldn’t be coaching a high school team yet MLF defends him.

There’s so much dysfunction going on and that usually points to leadership.  MLF is a joke.  For all his warts 12 isn’t the issue.  On the field he does his fucking job.  MLF is the biggest poser alive defending Barry.

Until the Packers sign Henya as GM we are going nowhere.

Better than anything I've seen out of Kurt Warner.

Love looked great for 9 passes.  This is super encouraging of course, and we haven't had a lot of encouragement.  Chemistry and trust between him and Watson would be huge.

I would actually prefer Love start on Sunday and Rodgers just get better physically, but if the biggest thing we can complain about is our 50 million dollar QB clawing and scratching to get onto the field, then Packer fans are too spoiled.

Shut AR down after the Bear game to properly evaluate Love for the option year. Problem I see is a lack of anyone in the organization with the guts to tell the QB he needs to sit (paying the price for coddling their franchise QB).

Rodgers said 2 things post-game that irk me.  On his interception that was thrown to Davis he said, “he didn’t run a flat route - and I saw that and threw it anyway.”  Why does he have to always belittle receivers - especially young receivers.  Why can’t he say - “I should not have thrown it.”

yesterday on his tv show he said, “the scan was positive and I’ll be playing Sunday.”  Really - is he the deciding person?  Couldn’t he say, “everything looks pretty good.  We’ll see what the team physicians and coach decide for Sunday.”

@DH13 posted:

Did he say the scan was "positive"?  Doesn't that mean it showed something other than health?   Or is that lingo only for tests like blood tests, etc?  Maybe he meant immunized.

Sorry - That was my paraphrase.  Here’s his exact quote:

“I got good news with the scans yesterday, so I plan on playing this week," Rodgers said Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show.

It's just time to move on.  Season is over, playoffs are out of reach.  The team gains nothing by playing Rodgers so it's time to give Love an extended look these last 6 weeks.  Actually lines up perfect to give Love the start this week then has the bye to dig into his performance and get ready for the Rams.

Later Aaron.  Enjoy your offseason because it just started.  Time for Gute to figure out how to trade him.

EDIT: I'll understand if Aaron plays this week but no matter what happens against the Bears, Love should start the rest of the season after the bye.  If not, we have major concerns as we head into a very pivotal offseason for this franchise.

Just one (Pro Bowl) Cornerback's opinion about how Love played in Philly:

"Green Bay got a bright, bright future . . . cuz buddy was slinging it."

Darius Slay on Jordan Love.

Full quote from Slay:

"As a defense, when A-Rod goes out, we feel great. That's one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, so if he goes out, we have to go out there and really get after it. The D-line gets a little hungrier because they know with a young buck coming in they can get after the quarterback since A-Rod makes a lot of checks and communication at the line of scrimmage, that's hard to sack. Young buck [Jordan Love] comes in and actually does a very, very solid job. Green Bay got a bright, bright future, like a bright one because buddy [Love] was slinging it.

I ain't going to lie, it low-key looked like A-Rod, like he's [Love] been learning a lot. It should be a blessing for him to be behind a GOAT and learning like that at a high level. He's a talented kid as well, he's a first-round draft pick, has a lot of talent. He just has to wait his time, just how A-Rod waited his time for Brett Favre. His time is going to come, and you can see the gun-slinging mentality he had just like him [Rodgers]. With the quick release and the flick, picking the back leg up, he's [Love] copy and pasting him [Rodgers] for sure. That's a great player [Rodgers] to be copy and pasting from."

It was nice to see Love take a step forward after what I felt was a pretty mediocre pre-season for him.

I definitely think he wasn’t playing with enough talent around him in preseason which hurt.  That said my biggest concerns with him were mistakes under pressure and overall inaccuracy.

His accuracy was really good vs Philly other than a pass or 2.  I don’t think Philly threw too much at him in terms of pressure packages though.  Maybe they would have tried a few more tricks against him if he would have been out there a few more series.  If he starts taking care of the ball better vs. pressure, then maybe the Pack really does have something with him.  He definitely needs a few more games under his belt to truly be judged though, no doubt about that.

BD is right.  Rodgers is untradeable.  Rodgers has 60 million reasons to come back next year and I don't think he would want to go out on a sour note, so I think he's back next year no matter what.  Therefore, although I may be in the minority, I don't mind Rodgers continuing to play, getting more reps with the youngster WRs in real game (not preseason) action.  Picking up Love's 5th year option is a no brainer.

Why would Love do any favors for the Packers when he’s likely going to spend his fourth season warming the bench?

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/...9-first-round-picks/

Its the teams option to pick up the 5th year.  Love has no say in the matter.

He will make the avg salary of the 3rd through 25th highest paid QBs.    The Packers would have two of the top 15 paid highest QBs on their roster.    One of them has to go, it can’t be Rodgers because of dead cap money.   The question is…. Is Love good enough that a team would give up a high round pick for the opportunity to have him at that cheap salary next year and then top 15 pay for the 5th year and the opportunity to negotiate a new deal with him.

If he isn’t awesome, he walks and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of next year.   If he signs and plays in 2024 with another team, Packers get a comp pick as high as end of round 3 based on his performance.

So, the obvious thing to do is play him these last 5 games and hope you can sign and trade him.   Keeping him as the 15th or so highest paid QB and Rodgers as a top 5 paid QB isn’t feasible with the cap.   We have Bahks and Alexander contracts.  We want to sign Jenkins and Gary.   You cannot cut or trade Rodgers because it would be an unbearable cap hit to the point we probably couldn’t sign all of our draft picks let alone keep any FA’s.

They are fucked beyond all recognition.

I agree on Love's fifth year option. Team can work something out with his agent to lower the cap hit.

No… no they can’t.   That’s not how it works.

They could offer him a long term deal instead of picking up the option but they can’t afford it.   Also, players are not into taking 2nd contracts with no money up front.  There is no way Love agrees to low pay in 2023 and 2024 and then a big pay day in 2025 to stay in GB when he can go get decent money up front in 2024.

In which case, it's about as close to a worst case scenario as could be. Can't blame Rodgers for coming back to collect the loot. Can't blame Love if he decides it makes more sense for him to walk. They're not going to pay 12 to come back and hold a clipboard, which means he's essentially in the lame duck situation he so desperately wouldn't stand for. The only twist is that it will be the Packers who would suffer the worse consequences of having the lame duck instead of Rodgers himself. Maybe MM could offer 12 a bribe of sorts to retire.

So I'm reading that a trade is possible.  Packers would have a $40.3m cap hit in 2023 if they trade him before June 1st (which is more likely than post-June 1st).  That is the accelerated cap hit due to bonuses already paid out and prorated to the future.  The cap hit if they cut him though, is like $100m because I believe his salary and bonuses in 2023 and 2024 are guaranteed thus still owed if they cut him.  Trading him would put the new team on the hook for those guarantees.

So Packers can and must trade him.  There just isn't a future here for a 39 year old declining QB when you have a young QB on the roster.  And there is a market for Rodgers - Colts, Falcons, Panthers, Texans, Saints, Giants, Seahawks, and Commanders all do not have a  legit starting QB on their roster for 2023 (although Giants and Seahawks could resign their current QBs).  At this point I'd take a 3rd round pick just to move on with a $40m cap hit so we can start rebuilding in the Love era.  So it is possible and I think Gute has to do it.  Rodgers just can't be the starting QB in 2023.
