Of course they made the right move. Even if Brogdon is an All Star, they made the right move. Folks need to let go of Brogdon- it was an impossibility.

In the meantime, the Bucks are #1 defending 2s, 30th defending 3s. They’ve basically doubled down on last year’s success.

Is that fact they give up so many 3's also a result of teams being down by significant margins they need to bomb away to try and get back into the game?

And also the fact they are really, really good at defending the paint.

I don’t think it’s a function of deficit. Teams simply shoot threes nowadays. They’re going to bomb away from the opening tip.

But the concern is a repeat of what we saw last year in the ECF. Van Vleet was unconscious, the Bucks unraveled offensively, and Leonard delivered the kill shots. But I do not think it was defense that failed them last year, though they gave up offensive rebounds that hurt them.

It was the offense that failed them. Middleton, Brogdon, and Lopez, all critical players stretching the floor, couldn’t find any groove. Giannis gets walled, no one can hit a clutch shot, and the leads evaporated before our eyes.

We have seen leads evaporate this year too. That’s the part that worries me...

It’s simple math really

If taking and making 3 point shots were so easy everyone would do it.  The Bucks are allowing the most makes about 14 per game- but they are middle of the road at 36% allowed.  Teams take 39 long range shots per game against the Bucks.  You know what other teams allow the most 3pt attempts?  Toronto, Miami, and the Clippers.

A 2 point shot in the paint or layup is converted at a much higher percentage and no team is better than Milwaukee at defending the hoop or contesting short range shots.  As a team they are only allowing about 38PPG in the paint which is an incredible statistic.

Its a big reason teams bomb away v Milwaukee.  It’s tough to score and navigate the interior against the Bucks.

As for projecting how they will do in the playoffs (as compared to last year) there are some things in their favor:

1) Rolo - another big to throw at teams

2) Korver and Marvin Williams - 3s

3) DDV - offense and defense

4) Giannis is better - including 3s

5) Middleton is better - all around

6) No Mirotic - he was awful on both ends

Sure, not having Brodgon is a loss, but the emergence of DDV and addition of Korver and Marvin Williams can more than offset that loss and they still have George Hill and could Bledsoe actually play any worse?  Not to mention there’s no Kahwi to get past this year.

This team is so much deeper than last year and it allows Bud to exchange out or trade our offense for defense and play big or small depending on the matchups.

The risk - and I think it’s the only risk - is if a team gets hot from 3 but can a team do that over a 7 game series?   We also need to remember that had they hit a couple of more shots in games 3 and 5 or 6 they beat the Raptors last year.

I think it is a disgrace that some folks, including much of the media, actually call for the NBA to have a B league.  That is essentially what they are saying.

"Milwaukee, you are not worthy to field a team as good as the likes of LA, Boston, etc."

That is an absolute disgrace.

They don’t have to apologize to anyone

It’s not their fault the national media wants to see them fail and have Giannis move on.  It’s not their fault others are obsessed about the Lakers or any other big market team

The best thing for Milwaukee is to win a title, resign Giannis and give a middle finger to the pundits

The best case scenario would be for the Bucks to sweep the Lakers in the NBA Finals and say fuck you to the so called super teams

The weird thing about the national media pushing guys to the coasts (and Miami) is that they now have 4 of the best 10 players in the league in Los Angeles instead of Cleveland (LeBron), OKC (George), Toronto (Kawhi), and New Orleans (A. Davis). Besides Giannis, the only other major superstar outside of a major market is probably Chris Paul (Harden, the 4 guys listed above, J. Butler, Embiid, Simmons, Tatum, Beal).

Instead of looking at this and saying that the reason ratings are down is that half the teams feel they have no chance and the NBA wants a bunch of Washington Generals, the media is like "let's get Giannis (and eventually Zion - you know it's coming) to a mega market"

Damien Lillard probably deserves mention as well.

Good point. And, amazingly enough, the same ESPN personalities (and other media types) that are calling for Giannis to move to a bigger market have also banged the drum for Lillard to do so as well.

Smith is very frustrated that Lillard was left out of the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, and he claims that it is because the Blazers lack media attention in the Pacific Northwest. ESPN published a video of Smith talking during First Take, where he urged the Blazers to trade Lillard as soon as possible.

Not to mention the reward is 2 points.  Not 3. Guaranteed loss for the opposition & an awful lot of work for no gain.

Wide open 3? Or bust my ass for 2. I think I'll fire up the 3 & hope for a 4-point play.

And here we go again

ESPN is just feeding the speculation w/Giannis yet again because of comments he made about wanting to play with his brothers- “in Milwaukee, in LA, whatever”

How long before someone floats the idea of a team giving a max contract to Giannis and offering at least mid-level exceptions to one (or two) of the brothers?

If you are team that is under the luxury tax this year, your MLE is roughly 4 years and 40 million.

Let's say you are the Knicks. You approach Giannis' agent and tell him that if Giannis forces a trade to you (so he can sign the supermax) you'll sign his brothers to contracts over their market value. Giannis gets 5 years and 250 million and the two brothers each get 5 years and 50 million.

The Bucks are already paying Thanasis to be a human victory cigar. He's not out of place in the NBA, but he's never going to be a rotation player for a good team.

I think Giannis' comment was just an innocent one, but if I'm one of the teams trying to get him out of Milwaukee, I take note of it and start looking into Thanasis and Kostas' contract situations. Giannis at 5/250 is still a bargain.

I saw somewhere this week (I can't find the link at lunch right now) that Giannis' approximate open market value (no salary cap or luxury tax) is somewhere approaching 100 million a year. 5/350 for all three brothers even if two of them just ride the plane to game with Giannis is still a value.

It’s unbearable now... win the title, don’t win the title... it won’t matter because he’s the shiny new face of the game. The media is lazy. They’d rather be in LA or NY or MIA covering him than have to go to “fucking Milwaukee”.

Or Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Toronto, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Portland, Detroit, Orlando, Charlotte, Minneapolis, Memphis, San Antonio, and Sacramento.

San Antonio is probably the best example of media bias that never gets discussed. The Spurs won 5 titles in a 15 year stretch because they had a team built around one top 10 guy all-time and surrounded him with a bunch of complementary players who are also retired as borderline HOFers. Their core players, with a couple exceptions, played their entire careers with the Spurs: Tim Duncan, Manu, Tony Parker (save one year with Charlotte). And, David Robinson before that. They have arguably the best coach in NBA history who is beloved by most of his players.

Instead of holding that up as the example to aspire to, the media narrative is that LeBron and Durant (and Bosh, A. Davis, P. George) are the ones that get promoted. Rather than talk about a 15 year dynasty built around guys that the Spurs developed (no major free agent was really key to any title).

If you were a 10 year old just starting to watch the NBA, you've probably never heard Tim Duncan's name mentioned once. Giannis can be Tim Duncan rather than LeBron. I'd rather cheer for Tim Duncan 1000 out of 1000 over LeBron or guys like him.

I think Giannis stays but if he carries this into his last year and the Bucks think he might leave, they will move him for picks/players correct?  I don't think he has a no trade clause.   Is this the case?

San Antonio had a decent team prior to Duncan but had one bad year in 1997 and tanked and ended up with the #1 pick and voila!  They get Duncan and the rest is history.

It also didn’t hurt they hit several home runs on draft picks or personnel moves ala Tony Parker and Ginobili and Kahwi and have arguably the best head coach in the NBA (Pop).

Sometimes you need some luck as well and look no further than Giannis.

Silver lining of this virus is the thought that Giannis may even be more likely to sign the max.  Why?  Who knows if the season will be actually completed.  If so, he can't blame a Finals failure, etc. for why he needs to look elsewhere.  This situation reminds all of us how family and friends are what is most important in life and we are just following a game.  Chasing big markets, more fame, fortune are not what they are cracked up to be ( I think Giannis thinks like this already but this only reinforces it).  My prediction is they void the remaining regular season games and seed the playoffs based on the standings when the season was suspended.

David Robinson went down with a season ending injury the year their record was so bad they got the #1.

Don’t forget the outright tanking that happened that year as well. Boston was supposed to win it with the most chances- but wound up picking 3rd.

Another slow news day but another Giannis to Golden State rumor this time from Tim Daniels of the Bleacher Report.

The scuttlebutt is the Warriors dealing Andrew Wiggins and their 2020 lottery pick and MNs lottery pick in 2021.  Or perhaps substitute out Wiggins for Klay Thompson.

Thompson is certainly more valuable than Wiggins.  And the two 1st rounders would have value.

Interesting statement by Giannis at the BLM rally in Milwaukee today:

George Balekji

@GeorgeBalekji
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s message to protestors in Milwaukee today: “We want change, we want justice... I want my kid to grow up here in Milwaukee and not be scared to walk in the street...”
