In five games against the Packers, Stafford has a 68.8 passer rating

Too often against the Packers, Stafford — boasting one of the strongest arms in the league — forced the issue. Ill-advised turnovers have sparked Packers wins. Last season, Stafford had a costly pick-six to M.D. Jennings at Ford Field and a fumble returned for a touchdown by Mike Daniels at Lambeau Field.

For those who lost count, Detroit has lost a surreal 22 straight in Wisconsin. The last time the Lions won in Wisconsin was Dec. 15, 1991

Yet why I do I know several hand wringing posts will follow in this thread...

Just wanted to be first.

Well, the Chicago Bears seem to think that defensive end Israel Idonije, now with the Detroit Lions, tipped his new team off about what defensive schemes the Bears were running.

Michael C. Wright @mikecwright

A few Chi players think former DL Izzy Idonije tipped off Lions to their stunts. Said Bush burned them every time they did "power" stunt.

Justin Rogers @Justin_Rogers

If Idonije was able to tip off Detroit about Chicago's play-calling, that's bad coaching by the Bears staff.

Truth. The Bears decided to keep Lovie Smith's old system intact despite a new coordinator in Mel Tucker, and they allowed Idonije walk to Detroit without too much of a fight. Not only was Idonije a very smart player — clearly — but he also was very popular in the Bears' locker room.

That is, until he may or may not have tipped off his new team. His new first-place team, that is.

Hilarious if true.

That's funny, but I think most involved with the Bears would tell you there's not a whole lot of complexity behind that defense to exploit. It's an execution scheme.

I'd say this has more to do with that D-Line trending toward a weakness, and now playing without it's best member.

The Lions are a pretty good team and after the choke in Cincy it's not a stretch to call the game gut-check time for the Packers. The way the divisional race is heading it's as close to a must-win as you can get at this point in the season.

I'd change that to "the Lions are a pretty good offense." Points should be there for the taking, even if it becomes a shootout.

Stafford is a completely different QB with pressure and without, so the Pack will definitely have to get after him. That said, if Bush plays like he did Sunday, he will feast on the infamous Capers No Man's Land underneath the coverage.

2-2 would sure look better for the Pack that 1-3, especially a win within the division. We have to get the home field win and I think we will, although it may be tougher than usual against this Lions team. With Burleson out we can devote more resources to stop Megatron. But now we also have to contain Bush. Plug the Bush, pressure Stafford and limit Megatron and we should win.

I'd agree with most, I think the Lions are a different team with Bush.  Everyone in the world knows that Megatron is a stud, but Bush brings a new dimension.  He appears to be tough between the tackles and on screens out of the backfield.

All hands on deck on the D, but we are going to need to put up 35+ points IMO, to win.

When healthy? I agree. But in 7 seasons, he's had just 2 where he was healthy all season. Already he's missed a game this year. In 3 of 7 seasons, he's missed at least 4 games.

Durability is a problem with Bush so I'm just waiting to see what else breaks on him and how long he'll be down for. I'd love to see guys like Jolly, Raji and Grease just stuff him and sit on him. I realize that's easier said then done but a physical game at the DL could mean knocking him out of the game.

The Lion front four is pretty good as well, but I agree with your larger point. Absent a significant amount of turnstile moments from the OL the Packer offense should be able to score.

Pboi,

I agree durability is an issue with Bush, but when he is in the game, that Offense is dynamic.  I'm never one to root for injuries, so I hope/know that we'll have a plan to contain him, but I won't be rooting to knock him out of the game.

this is definitely NOT the time to let another streak end - like the 'AR hasn't thrown 2 picks in a game since whenever' v Cincy (the Browns gotta be unstoppable now, why they've beaten a projected playoff team <sarcasm off> ).  gotta get #23 on the lions this weekend in Wisconsin.

Don't get me wrong, neither am I. Karma has a way of biting you in the ass if you are.

My point being with Bush injuries are common with him so before the Lions claim they found their missing piece, let's see what 17 weeks of football brings including when weather turns and he's not playing in a dome (Saint/Lions) or in 80 degree weather (Miami).

Completely agree, the season can wear him down, but this week, it looks like he is available, and relatively healthy.  When we play them later in the year, who knows?

Either way it should be a good game.  Thank god that we don't have Buck/Aikman, probably stuck with Billick and Brennamen.

Starks, Kuhn, Lacy, and Franklin are all injured to a degree... so one of more not being available isn't a surprise.

Packers also signed WR Reggie Dunn to the PS.

Reggie Dunn returned 10 kickoffs for 513 yards at Utah with a school-record 4 TDs. He was first-team All-Pac-12 as a kick returner.

Here is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's post-practice comments Monday:

  • (injuries) General sense is that we've improved. Worked out a number of players today. Haven't talked to staff about results.
  • (First three weeks) Looked at it as a coaching staff. Have to do a better job of taking care of football. Defense took the ball away well from Cincinnati. Pass defense is something we've looked at. Special teams and return game we've looked at.
  • (Lacy) I thought he practiced well. He's full go and week off definitely helped him.
  • (Burnett) He feels great. Curious to see him go through week of practice.
  • (Franklin) Did some things well today. I'm not going to talk about injuries.
  • (Return game) Something we'll look at all this week.
  • (Backs) Obvious going against Cincinnati had to go through two backs. Had discussions and game-planned.
  • (Use two backs) Depends on game plans.
  • (Four WRs) Feel good with that number. Group that could use as many opportunities as possible.

Practice squad addition Dunn was kick return phenom in college

Green Bay - Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he would use this week to determine how he would go about replacing Jeremy Ross on returns.

And while Randall Cobb stands as the odds-on favorite to handle at least one of the duties, the Packers will be taking a look at undrafted free agent Reggie Dunn, who was signed to the practice squad Monday.

Dunn returned 10 kickoffs for the University of Utah last season and four were for touchdowns. He averaged 51.3 yards per return. He set an NCAA record lwith two 100-yard kickoff returns in one game against California.

The year prior he averaged 23.6 yards on 26 returns with no touchdowns.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Dunn in the spring and he took part in three preseason games, averaging 36.5 yards on two kickoff returns and 9.9 yards on seven piunt returns.

"I've been in contact with them for a couple of weeks," the 5-9, 178-pound Dunn said after practice Monday. "They wanted to bring me up here for a work out after the bye.

"I worked out this morning and they signed me when I was done. Then I went out to practice."

It's probably a long shot that the Packers would turn to Dunn right away, but like with DuJuan Harris last year, he could start to grow on them and become someone they're willing to try.

McCarthy is in a bit of a bind because if he doesn't use Cobb, he doesn't have a lot of options. Rookie RB Johnathan Franklin worked there, but with James Starks (knee) and John Kuhn (hamstring) potentially out this week, he might not want to risk working Franklin there.

Newly signed RB Michael Hill does not have return experience and isn't the explosive kind of runner you'd want on kickoff returns, but McCarthy didn't rule him out.

"Well, he’s definitely someone we will look at," McCarthy said. "He doesn’t have a history there, but he has natural run skill. I like what he’s done in his time here."

Dunn would have to prove he's sure-handed in order to get a chance at returns. It would mean releasing somebody to make room for him on the 53-man roster. He plays wide receiver, but the Packers are already down to four and aren't going to let one of them go.

Dunn said he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.2 and 4.26 seconds. Published reports confirmed the 4.26 mark, which he said was taken with a stopwatch and not electronically.

Why dont you do some reading before posting.

Have you read about Finleys comments? Think he has a chance of playing? I don't. Heyward hasnt practiced as Kuhn and MM not mentioning Mathews possible staus makes you comfortable about him playing??? jajajaja

Make a change on what you are drinking.

I did some reading before making this post.

Which of Finley's comments are you referring to?

Matthews skipped practices in the past and played the next game.

Never expected Heyward or Kuhn this weekend based on reports from 10 days back.

Wait until Wednesday for the official injury report.

Been drinking Single Malt since mom let me out of her basement, not changing now.

Get ready for Reggie Bush. If you're a Bears, Vikings or Packers fan, that was the last guy you wanted to see go to the Lions. He's exactly what they needed. Schwartz is still a classless pigfooker, but Reggie is looking spry.

Good luck

The Lions are 20th on the league at stopping the run, with a 5.2 yards per attempt average.  I want GB to run the ball down their throat and keep Megatron and Bush off the field.  Suh and Fairly will really test the O line, so Rodgers needs to get rid of the ball quickly.  We should be getting healthy this week, REALLY A GOOD OPPORTUNITY THIS WEEK!
