There is only TT to blame for this one.

Bears proving that having a good backup can save your season. Forget about the other players in the game, the Bears have at least a decent backup QB and GB doesn't.

For years TT has stuck with the draft and develop until he found out this year Harrell and Coleman were horrible. He put the brakes and changed signing not one but two QBs that failed. Young and now Harrell.

Now one of the strongest GB teams in recent history are in danger of not even making the playoffs!!! Congrats TT. Saved a los of dollars during these years havin garbage at backup QB. Now its your time to explain.

It's not important to lament Seneca Wallace as your starter- but for heaven's sake don't prolong it by putting him out there again. I agree Wallace was at a disadvantage by comparison, and it'll be interesting to see how long that lasts in Chicago. But I don't think anyone on Earth believes a week of practice is going to make Wallace competent. And they cannot afford to drop games against crappy teams like Philly and New York.

No excuse for both MM and TT botching the backup QB situation as badly as they did.

He was a decent backup with Seattle in his younger years, but he can't run anymore, so he sucks ass now.

Amusing that in a league that maybe only 20 of the 32 starting QB's are real quality, TT is blamed for not having an instant top shelf starter ready to go.  Notwithstanding Matt Cassel and New England a few years ago, it's been a long time since a backup has come in and had sustained (ie, more than 2-3 games) of success.  In a QB driven league, you live and die with your starter.

McCown has actually been in the Chicago system for 3 years now and

Trestman has been working on this for months in his secret outpost in Canaydia

And kudos to him for pulling it off on national TV

He knows exactly who he needs to knock off and he spent his time doing just that.

Any new coach in the NFC North knows the score.

Then he had a bye week to practice his un-scouted stuff with Josh and they did well with it. McCown had a career night. It happens.

But its not an indictment of everything and everybody in Green Bay irregardless of what the caffeinated fans may think the morning after.

Keep Calm and Carry On;

This franchise is about to reach its finest hour, not unlike the Brits did in World War II

Sure, the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, but it ain't over by a long shot.

Ponder can't hit the broad side of a barn when the Vikings face an 8 man box with Peterson at RB.  Young was atrocious in pre-season when he tried to pass.  Henne with a QB rating at about 75 for his career, throwing as many interceptions as TD in any given season......

What other names can we dredge up......

He was in Seattle for 5 years; they just took a really long time to evaluate him

He was in SF for a cup of coffee and to get Colt McCoy to lower his $$ demands

I certainly understand fans' frustrations, but there really isn't much to choose from

Anybody who can actually play wants to start

Packers went into offseason with a draft pick ( BJ) an undrafted ( Harrel) brought in a FA in Young and took a pass on the return of Flynn

They didn't like any of them and grabbed a guy with lots of experience. Rodgers even commented about how much he enjoyed having the veteran POV in the QB room

Lets see what happens with a week to prepare, we can always kill him later

RT @Edwerderespn: Expecting Packers will sign Matt Flynn if convinced he's healthy because of past success, system knowledge.

Have a feeling Ed's throwing darts at the wall. I don't think they activate Tolzien then bring in a 3rd QB. And I am also doubting Flynn's arm is healthy. Several reports including Rodgers who spoke with Flynn some weeks ago and said Flynn's arm is still bothering him.

Exactly.  The Packers would have to cut somebody to bring him in...why would they go with 4 active QBs  (assuming Rodgers is back in a few weeks).   Oftentimes national reporters don't really have any idea what is going on for a particular team, but rehash some theme they hear.

Christ, why not just bring back Doug Pederson, Mark Brunell and Brent?  They all know the system.  Why not start cutting good players (remember the 50 out of 53 stat line) to make room for someone who is washed up and needs months to get back into game shape (physically and mentally)?  Flynn's days are long gone, just like the others.  Let it go.  Just let it go…...

FWIW, the Tolzien activation has not been made official yet. It was just reported as "anticipated" yesterday. Even the roster on the official team site has been updated to reflect the Finley, Barrington and Sherrod moves, but Tolzien is still on the PS.

I fully expect Ted is exploring all options, and that likely includes Flynn. I believe Tolzien wouldn't have to be activated until Saturday, so there may be nothing official for a few days.

I understand the frustration and I know some are using Wallace as a scapegoat for the loss, but I don't think it's fair at all to say the back-up QB job was "bungled" or mishandled with no consideration to the context of the offseason. Who were they supposed to sign to back up Rodgers? Matt Cassell? He's worked out well. Jason Campbell? He went where the starting opportunity was. So who was it supposed to be? Based on the list I'm looking at, the best AVAILABLE veteran back ups look like: Byron Leftwich, Vince Young (that name sounds familiar?), Charlie Batch, Tyler Thigpen, and Senneca Wallace (that also sounds familiar?). Here's the list I looked at: http://espn.go.com/nfl/freeagency/?year=2013&position=8

The guys that make good back-ups, or maybe the guys that fans think would be good back-ups, went where the money and the opportunities were or re-signed with the teams that were already with. How in the world is that Thompson or McCarthy's fault? They tried one veteran back-up, and he sucked. Wallace was it and still is. Here's the list of QBs currently available:

Vince Young
Byron Leftwich
David Carr
Matt Leinart
John Skelton
Tyler Thigpen
Trent Edwards
Tim Tebow
Dennis Dixon
Pat White
Graham Harrell
JaMarcus Russell
B.J. Coleman
Mike Kafka
Caleb Hanie
John Beck
A.J. Feeley
Stephen McGee
Jordan Palmer
Nate Enderle

A lot of experienced and inexperienced suck here. I actually think they went with the best option available: a veteran who won't make rookie mistakes when called on and who can contribute with the game planning. As far as I can tell, Wallace has fulfilled both criteria. I didn't see any dumb mistakes from him, just physical limitations and scheme limitations. Wallace has also been here for 2 months. By the time one of these mooks starts grasping the offense it will be time for Rodgers to come back.

I primarily blame the defense, but I have to give Wallace some blame, too. He came in as a 10-year vet and performed like an unprepared, bored college freshman. Given his experience and situation, he should have at least looked like he cared about trying to win the game. You know, rally the troops, take charge, and if anything else, try to inspire the guys even if you're not hitting your passes; instead, I felt like he dragged them down with his body language and attitude.
