JMHO but I don't care one damn bit.  a grown man got in a bit of trouble with the law over alcohol, big deal, happens all the time.  he wasn't getting ready to play a game, just coach.

I guess I have a dimmer view of driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering everybody else on the road.  (and as opposed to smoking pot in your own home)

I just marvel at what passes for news now.  It's all tabloid dirty laundry, all of it.

"Stop the presses! Assistant coached nabbed for misdemeanor! Full story at eleven! Everybody hate and freak out and point your fingers in horror!"

"...and endangering everybody else on the road."

lastly, this phrase is such horse****.
let's start a list of all the things endangering everybody else on the road, shall we?

- "smart" phones
- kids in a car
- dogs in a car
- snow covered car
- undefrosted windshield
- cigarette smoking
- eating
- etc, etc, etc

pretty much getting in a car is endangering everybody else on the road in one way or another.

I'm done now.

Got it.  And I'm sure the families of the 9,000-10,000 people killed every year by drunk drivers would agree with you.

It's his fourth DUI. That's a serious problem.

was it in different states? Article says 1st. Between .08 and .15

If that's the case then I was wrong and he just ****ed up.  Don't do it again Darren.

Darren Perry, alcoholic.  Packers need to get him in rehab or get him a pink slip.

Yep. He's gotten pinched 4 times for OWI now. I don't care what got dropped via an atturdney, it's pretty obvious alcohol has been an issue for Perry going back to the 90's (when he was 1st convicted).

It also needs to be noted that the NFL, and the Packers in particular, go to EXTRAORDINARY  lengths to ensure their players and coaches never get into this situation. IIRC, the story goes each player/staff is provided business cards with a sober driving service that will pick you up, anywhere/anytime, no questions asked. You will not get into any trouble, it's kept within the building and no one ever finds out.

This repeated behavior tells me Perry has such an issue with this that he's bypassing a service that 99.9% of us aren't afforded. That's a big problem.

This would be Perry's 3rd offense (the 4th was dropped):

Perry previously was convicted of drunken driving in Pennsylvania in 1997 and 2007. He also was arrested in Louisiana on suspicion of drunken driving in 2000. That charge was dropped.

Delain said law enforcement was unaware of the previous offenses when issuing the Dec. 17 drunken-driving citation.

Brown County District Attorney David Lasee said the case has not been referred to his office. He said the charge against Perry could be revised once he reviews details of the previous convictions.

Third-offense drunken driving is a criminal offense that carries penalties of up to one year in jail, fines and license revocation of up to three years.

The worst thing about a coach or team executive getting a DUI (or any criminal offense, for that matter) is that it provides fodder for the players to 'compare' punishments doled out.
Of course, the players feel that they are generally punished more harshly, and possibly more often, than a coach may be. And they have a point. Maybe not to the extreme that some players want to take it, but a point nonetheless.
