I have less of a problem with the taking the FG than I do with the fake punt. Probably the worst part about taking the FG was the fact that right after they made it, their special teams gave up a huge Kick Return that allowed Kansas City to begin to turn the tide. That said, I really don't have a problem in getting points there. Maybe it wasn't a "gutsy" decision, but I don't think that was a terrible decision.
The fake FG though, that looked bad. Just a really bad time to try it and fail. I like Bill O'Brien and think he gets a bad rap, but that particular decision was definitely a bad one and did no favors to his reputation.
The real truth about the game though, the Texans never really did stop the Chiefs even when they were up by 24. The Chiefs stopped themselves those 1st few drives with dropped passes and a fumble. It was just a matter of time before they stopped giving the Texans gifts and once they stopped giving the Texans gifts, the Texans defense was helpless. That was the real story of the game.

Peter Schrager on NFL Network had a whole cross section of how well both these staffs know each other. Including....
Pettine being HC in Cleveland & his OC was Kyle Shanahan. MLF worked under Shanahan at Redskins, Falcons & Browns.
The incestuous-ness of both staff's is staggering.
So is both those franchise's history of sucksess.

What he has accomplished is nothing short of historic. His record is up there, even better than, the all time greats. Knox, Shula, Seifert and MLF.
Yes, he has Rodgers. But Siefert inherited a Super Bowl winner with, I believe, Steve Young and Jerry Rice.
Belichick and LaFleur should be the top 2 in the conversation.
The only thing MLF is missing are the trophies and rings and he can buy those anywhere.
Belichick is doing it with a rookie QB. Conversation pretty much begins and ends with him.

MLF was a great hire, but to be considered an all-timer you have to at least get to a Super Bowl. I'd compare him to Marty Schottenheimer right now.
Marty Schottenheimer was one of the winningest regular-season coaches of all time. 4 head coaches that were his assistants went on to win Super Bowls as head coaches (MM, Dungy, Arians, and Cowher). He was a head coach for 21 years and went at least .500 in 19 of 21 seasons. He made 3 AFC title games. In those 3 title games he lost twice by less than one score (to Elway when he was he Browns head coach). One of those games was the one where Ernest Byner fumbled at the 1 going in for a winning TD.
He went 14-2 in his final season as a head coach and was leading the Brady/Belichick Patriots 21-13 well into the 4th quarter when his DB intercepted a pass that would have likely clinched the game, but fumbled during the return. He got fired after that season and never coached again.
Schottenheimer was probably a top 10 coach all-time, but he's not even sniffed the HOF because he didn't get a to Super Bowl. Bud Grant and Marv Levy are in the HOF without winning a Super Bowl, but they got there multiple times. Schottenheimer is not considered an all-time great by the HOF committees because he never got there. MLF is a great coach, but to be considered a historically good coach, you have to get to a Super Bowl. He's young and he has time, but you never know.
And none of that should prevent a candidate being considered for COTY when the voting is done before the SB. "Should".

Matt Nagy has one more coach of the year award than MLF.
Just one opinion of individual awards. They are highly flawed and highly colored by opinion. Itâs been years since I gave a shit about them. There isnât a single coach I would take over MLF today. Not even Belichick because of his age and the likelihood he will retire in the next couple of years.
Anyone who coached Mitch to a playoff berth deserves COY consideration.

Earlier a question was posed about who knew of the connection between Robert Salah and MLF and of course after the Championship game 2 years ago everybody was aware, but there was a interesting story a few weeks ago when the Notre Dame Coach (Brian Kelley) resigned to take a job at LSU. The story was written about Kelleys selfish me first and only me attitude and it talked about when he was a coach at a smaller school and he called two of his grad asst's (Saleh and MLF) to a party. They thought they were invited to the party but instead were given snow shovels to clean the walkways and driveways for the guests- and how this incident reinforced their opinions on how to treat subordinates!

Itâs easy to downplay what LaFleur has accomplished. The fact heâs got the reigning MVP at quarterback no doubt will be held against him when voters fill out their ballots for Coach of the Year. But letâs not forget the Rodgers who is destroying defenses now isnât the Rodgers he inherited.
