Don’t waste any time Gute, bring that guy back into the fold. I don’t like his track record for bringing in POS’s like Hill and Hunt, but the guy is a great talent evaluator. He can leave Alonzo and Eliot in Cleveland though, we’re fine without them.

He worked under Ted. It’s a little awkward working under someone you were previously above, but isn’t that kind of life in the NFL? Also Ted now works for a guy he trained technically, although I doubt he does much work anymore. Teams always want to hire young up and comers, so I’m sure this happens all the time. But yeah I mean we don’t really know Dorsey, he’s a Wisconsin native, he’s worked for the Packers, and he’s just been released from his 2nd team in like 3 years. He’s either going to take a break and collect his severance or hide somewhere for a couple years.

Was previously very supportive of bringing Dorsey in to assume control. Really glad with the benefit of hindsight that didn't occur.

Is it Dorsey though or is it the Browns? He did build a great team in KC and assembled a lot of talent in Cleveland that just flamed out. I gotta think if he was allowed to bring in his coach things might have gone differently. Seems like if you keep him away from managing the cap he's a solid GM.

Not our problem, though!

Gotta be some sort of a personality issue as well, doesn't it?

A bit of both as far as I'm concerned. Browns' ownership is a disaster but I didn't care for quite a few of Dorsey's personnel decisions.

McGinn was blasting Murphy the past couple of years for not bringing Dorsey before he went to Cleveland. he kept saying how much Dorsey wanted to be in Green Bay and Murphy screwed it up. Two firing  in three years for Dorsey is not how to build a resume. I was suprised Andy Reid could not work witih him.

these owners are living in a Twilight Zone. So Garrett has no idea if he's still employed and the assistants were told they were all fired, maybe.

WTF

I would say this is sarcasm, but the way these 3 stooges of the NFL operate (Jerruh, Danny, Haslem) it's probably not.

Agree, BUT we don’t know how hands on Jimmy and Dee Haslam have been with Dorsey. For all we know word came from them to sign Kareem Hunt or draft Mayfield. They’ve run U of TN into the ground with meddling in coaching and AD hires, so I’m inclined to give Dorsey the benefit of the doubt.

Since 1999 when they returned to Cleveland. 20 years. Browns will have had 10 different GMs and 12 different head coaches.

Somehow things haven't worked out.

They've made the playoffs once (squeaked in at 9-7 in 2002), had two winning records (9-7 in 2002, 10-6 in 2007) and zero division titles over the past 21 seasons. Amazing. Some of the older posters here talk about how miserable it was to be a fan in the 70s and 80s, but those awful Devine/Starr/Gregg/Infante teams outproduced the modern Browns by comfortable margin. What a disaster of a franchise.

Wonder at what point the Haslam crew will realize they have no ability to hire the right football leadership.  In any event, the story below written before Dorsey was fired outlined why he was going to get fired:

"The firing of Coach Freddie Kitchens on Sunday night does not absolve Browns General Manager John Dorsey.

Kitchens sabotaged his only season as a head coach with his poor in-game decisions, baffling play calls and inability to instill discipline and attention to detail. During a 6-10 season that ended with a 33-23 loss to the 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns returned to their old status as laughingstocks of the league.

"But Dorsey had a huge hand in the Browns’ epic failure.

Kitchens was the only coach Dorsey has ever hired, and Dorsey proved to be the same poor judge of a team leader as owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam and previous owners Randy Lerner and his late father, Al Lerner.

Dorsey also controls the 53-man roster, and his blunders were many."

Not on Mayfield.  Dorsey was all gushy about his "Favre" style.  He needs to own that shit.

Dorsey loved Mayfield.....so did Scot McCloughan. They're both close & if you remember Scot was a "consultant" for the Browns during the draft.

However......

I'm fairly certain Dorsey was saddled with Kitchens. He didn't have final say on the HC but I'm sure it was an "organizational" decision.

This is why Dorsey was requesting to hire "his guy" & Haslem being the head of the factory of sadness along with DePodesta said.....Nahhhh I think we're gonna hire this one. You just continue handling finding talent.

Dorsey gave them the finger & said....have fun finding a GM & now a HC that are any good.

If I'm one of the new hot head coaching candidates, I would turn down the chance to interview at Cleveland

I have no idea what it is like to operate a high-powered position like the GM of a professional sports franchise, but I just can't see where Dorsey took a job after leaving Green Bay where he had complete autonomy.

And I have no idea why anyone would.

A coach who was any good would demand of Cleveland a contract where, if he was let go before his contract expired, the money to be paid to him for every unexpired year left on the unexpired contract be triple the amount that would have been paid had he not been fired and was still coaching the team.  That's about the only way to get the Haslam's to not change coaches every 18 months.

I seem to remember some of the talk after he was poop canned in KC was Dorsey doesn't have much of a filter/bull in a china shop and it rubs people the wrong way.

I personally find that endearing.

Spielman must be giddy with the idea that someone may want a member of the vikings! Who cares if that person is Zimmer! Spielman gets to step into the spotlight, once again! Zimmer for Garrett, straight up! The other NFC North teams are salivating!

I couldn't figure out why they were scheduling meeting after meeting with Garrett until I saw that about Zimmer, it really sucks to have your boss keep saying, "come back tomorrow and maybe I will let you know if you've been fired".  I guess after working for Jer for so long you get used to that stuff.

Garrett is meating with Jerry again on Thursday.   His contract is not up until Jan. 14,  it would suck for Jerry to keep stringing him along until then.
