They signed him to a 2 year contract. He was designed to fail. They couldn't lure in a legit HC with the current mess there.
Gotta think we are losing Hackett. As long as it's just him and not Getsy (pretty doubtful) that will be OK.
No one is interested in interviewing Matt Foley? What's up with that?
Can the Packers lose Drayton, too?
Looks like the only relavent interview question in Miami is, "Do you think you can win with Tua?"
If this is actually true, the interviews of Frazier, Joseph, and Quinn seem out of place. Defensive coordinators aren't going to be QB whisperers or design an offense to suit his talents.
I'd respect a coach's decision if he said Tua is not the guy, rather than them saying "He is what you've got and we're not getting anybody else".
The Bears have put in a request to interview ex-Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, now a Dolphins senior personnel executive, for their open GM spot, per sources.
β Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 16, 2022
Didn't even realize Reggie was in Miami.
I don't want him anywhere near the Bears. Or the Vikings for that matter.
@jonmachota: Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan said he expects Mike McCarthy to remain Dallasβ head coach.
βAbsolutely. Very confident.β
Thatβs fantastic!!
Mike Mayock out as Raiduhs GM.
Probably wanted to fire the coach and the players want him.
Ken Norton Jr. fired as Seahawks DC.
Petey needed a scapegoat
The #Panthers are expected to hire former #Giants HC and ex-#Packers OC Ben McAdoo as their offensive coordinator, sources say. They need to work out the contract, but there arenβt expected to be issues. McAdoo is back as an OC, where he initially rose to prominence.

I'm sure he will be a fine OC with Sam Darnold at QB.
In a surprise move today the Ravens fired Wink Martindale. He is now free to pursue other opportunities. I wonder if a head coacing gig is in the immeadiate future.
Maybe he could be a game show host?
#Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett is set to have his second interview with the #Broncos today in Denver, per source.

Apparently one of three finalists.

Did the Broncos watch Saturday nightβs game?
Think having an inside angle to Rodgers is probably more important than the game.
Hard to know if Hackett/MLF's game plan or adjustments were inadequate or if AR kept checking out of called plays and not throwing to open receivers.

Based on that half hour video of the guy who rewatched the game, he was critical of AR not trusting the receivers other than Jones or Adams.
On the one play he discussed?
He discussed many plays that the Niners figured Rodgers wouldn't throw to 81 even when he was wide open so they didn't cover him. Rodgers threw it to him once and he dropped, and on the Cobb play before the play you're referring to he notes that Degura was wide open right in front of him and he tried to force it to his old buddy.
You mean the guy that dropped it?
How often is Marcedes involved in the pass game in the first place? Deguara has shown what exactly?
The whole fucking team lost.
thing is - if you decide you are not going to throw to someone, great, let the coach know, so we can put extra protection in there or something...as stupid as that sounds...you are playing a playoff NFL team with a small roster...stupid...
Kind of a head-scratcher so many are willing to shit all over 12 for "not being able to win in the playoffs," but does anyone think the Packers would have won 13 games if he wasn't the QB during the regular season?
He scored plenty of points last year in NFCCG...not his fault the D was horrendous.
Needed more, thatβs all. Needed more from just about everyone but Clark, Gary, 17 and 33.
Well, George Kittle had a big drop in the game as well. Might have gone for a TD.
Even some of the passes that were completed werenβt exactly on target. Adams scraped a couple basically off the turf that maybe only a couple of WRs could catch.
Credit to SF they were getting pressure on Rodgers and he didnβt seem his usual self in the pocket. It happens.
I just donβt know what else they can do at this point. Just about everything was lined up in their favor the last couple of years and they completely melted down. Thatβs not all on Rodgers BTW. But heβs part of the equation.
it is time to reset so we have some dark days and reset with draft capital. that is the best way - not the only way - but the best way to go ahead...only the rams are the pioneers to the pay for players w/ draft capital strategy...it will be over after this year...if they lose, it's a home-run hail/mary situation...if you lose by trading draft capital for players, your job, coach, system everything is in jeopardy. that's a real cut-throat way to run an organization...we need the chance at some blue chip talent - last was 52...and he wasn't a top 10 really...we need to suck for a little bit...nature's reset...happened to all the teams...middling doesn't help anything, got to suck and hit on your picks.
MLF has been the most successful regular-season head coach in his first 3 years in NFL history. He has come up with great schemes to optimize Rodgers' talents that were being lost under MM and, generally, his clock management and in-game decisions are good. That is not worthless, but there is a common denominator in a lot of these problems is that he seems afraid to really take over as THE MAN when he needs to. That doesn't mean you have to go Rex Ryan or Arians and show guys up on the sideline. How many times has Belichick ever yelled at anyone publicly (except maybe Brady)? But you better believe that Belichick would have taken care of some of these problems.
1. Your HOF QB has gone a off-script and has regressed to trusting only 2 guys to catch the ball, holding the ball waiting for said 2 guys to get open, and has clearly gotten tight. Isn't your job as the Head Coach to talk to him at halftime or during one of the breaks and get him to relax and play to his potential? It's hard to do that with a HOF QB, but you don't have to show him up on the field to do this. Talk to him at halftime. Have a brief conversation on the bench. Kevin Greene had his "it is time" moment with CM3 in the Super Bowl. Did he even try that with Rodgers?
2. Your special teams has sucked all year. It is literally the laughing stock of the NFL. Did he do anything to change things during the year? Did Drayton not listen to him? Who decided on the roster decisions for special teams? MLF is the head guy. When he goes into a playoff game hoping the Special Teams don't screw up that's an indictment on his leadership style. He should have done everything he could to optimize their chance for success. Instead, his attitude was - well, I can't control it so it's not really my problem. Can you imagine Belichick going into a game with that attitude? Belichick would have taken over the special teams unit (you don't have to embarrass Drayton publicly by doing something like this, he can stay the ST coach in name but you take over). It also sends the message you actually give a shit about the problem and feel you can do something about it.
In the end, as much as many of us ragged on Christl and McGinn over the years, an actual local sports press that would write something other than fluff pieces would have served the Packers well this year. Were the Packers doing extra work on STs in practice or were they just paying lip service to improving? How about digging a little and getting some off-the-record quotes from Hunter Bradley or JK Scott about what they thought. Maybe they did and those guys didn't bite, but I doubt it.
Why didn't AR want to throw DeGuara the ball? Was it because he also stunk it up in practice and it was obvious to everyone that you couldn't trust him at all? McGinn would have reported things like that. Didn't McGinn get barred from practices a few times back in the day when he reported stuff a little too close to the bone for management? The current contingent just want to get their access for some fluff pieces about how Rasul Douglas loves Green Bay, etc.

They're really shitting all over him for being a coronavirus heretic, and to a lesser extent for dithering in the offseason.
May I add showing up small in some big moments.
