Now do the Packer defense....
As long as we don't have to play a game in the state of California, we are in really good shape.
MLF is 17-4 in his career. He's 0-3 in California and 17-1 everywhere else (a loss to the Eagles when there was uncalled pass interference on the goal line when they were going in to force OT).

not just because of MLF's 0-3 record either. Massive fires, creating terrible AQI and increasing covid infections as well.

If you are looking at the COVID infection data, the Green Bay metro area is the worst place in the NFL in terms of per capita infections.
16-3 is tied for the best record after 19 games for any coach in NFL history.
Historic.
Kick ass.
I was trying to think of who he would be tied with and looked up George Seifert. His Niners went 14-2 then won 10 in a row the year after that. Seems like some shoddy fact checking going on at NBC.

As you said, he was 14-2 in the regular season in 1989 and then went 3-0 in the playoffs to win the Super Bowl. And then won the first 10 to start 1990.
So, his start was 27-2.
The two games he lost?
His first loss was to the Rams by the score of 13-12 on a FG with 2 seconds left.
The second loss was to the Majik Man Packers in Candlestick Park. Brent Fullwood had 16 carries for 76 yards, Sterling Sharpe caught a TD, and Majkowski ran for two scores.
Didn't Majik Man do a Q and A session on this board a number of years ago? I think SSchumer knows him personally and was able to get Majkowski to stoop down to our level for a brief period to answer questions.

There, now it is true - sort of. Let Seifert beat that ............
I'll have to check some coaching records from 1918.

There’s a whole thread about this that was active around the end of the season last year.
To put into context how insane the Packers offense has been so far, here's how they'd stack up historically in points per drive:
— Mike Renner (@PFF_Mike) September 30, 2020
3.73 Packers (2020)
---------------------
3.19 Patriots (2007)
3.12 Chiefs (2018)
2.96 Saints (2011)
2.85 Packers (2011)
2.83 Broncos (2013)
Not sure how PFF gets 3.73 per drive but Football Outsiders has us at 4.04 points per drive. They don't include end of game kneel down possessions (we have two) and same for end of half which we had vs New Orleans.

The 2007 Patriots stats have to be taken with a grain of salt because unlike some of these other teams (2011 Packers, 2018 Chiefs), Belichick/Brady would run up scores in the 4th quarter quite a bit. There were times they were throwing bombs to Moss up 3-4 TDs in the middle of the 4th.
The #Packers offense is averaging 4.04 points per drive per @fboutsiders by FAR the best in the league this season.

The gap between GB at 1 and the #Seahawks at 2 is bigger than the gap between SEA at 2 and the #Titans at 12.
Really an amazing job on the offense by MLF.

I'm still trying to figure out the 3.73 number.
The offense has 28 drives if not including Victory formation, and 31 if you do.
The offense has accounted for 113 points (Subtracting the 7 on a INT TD and 2 on safety from defense)
113/28 = 4.04 so I get that.
113/31 = 3.64, so I'm not sure what/how PFF gets to 3.73
"113/31 = 3.64, so I'm not sure what/how PFF gets to 3.73"
Duh. Then it would be called Pro Arithmetic Focus.

Ummm, this has been Payton / Brees pretty much every year they’ve been together that Brees could throw a pass more than 10 yards.

Bonus points for the offense having a Super Bowl MVP & generally great guy at QB that enjoys some tequila after his team drafts a replacement QB?? All while dumping a ball-busting GF?
That's gotta be at least worth .09

Funny you mention that, 'Hawk.
While watching some of the OU/ISU game last night, I was wondering if folks are still as high on Lincoln Riley as they were back then.
Still believe it likely would have been Fitzgerald had he been interested. Just really thankful things turned out as they did.

Yeah, I watched the 2nd half of that game. Oklahoma is a mess but Iowa State is pretty good this year.
McCarthy about to be 1-3 with the lone win requiring them to recover an onside kick.
Coaches with a new team rarely have a winning record...
Retread coaches rarely have a winning record too.
I get your point about retread coaches, and probably historically that's true. But the current "retreads" in the NFL HC ranks are:
Andy Reid
Jon Gruden
Bill Belicheck
Pete Carrol
Bruce Arians
Those guys have been pretty good after their firs HC gigs. McCarthy and Rivera are the other two in their first seasons with Team #2.
Nice Sony TV
Best part about MLF for me is the absence of 'Cho
JFC, it's refreshing to have a coach that doesn't remind me of my 7th grade PE teacher.
Nice company. Look at the QBs: Joe Montana. Otto Graham. ARod. That'll make your first 20 games a whole lot easier.
Check out this story on scoring being up this year in the NFL and we are #1 in the rankings.
From the article:
The team pushing more edges than any other in the league right now is the undefeated Green Bay Packers under head coach Matt LaFleur. The Packers have gone for it on fourth and short 85.7 percent of the time, they utilize some form of pre-snap motion on 50.2 percent of offensive plays, and LaFleur dials up play-action at the sixth-highest rate of any team.
Right behind Green Bay are the Dallas Cowboys, an exciting offensive team that has so far only been able to notch a single win, gamely keeping pace with Washington and Philadelphia in the hellscape that is the NFC East. With a new coaching staff that seems willing to aggressively push edges, the Cowboys appear well-positioned to complete a turnaround and win the weakest division in football.
Even if you just put the guy in as a decoy at the goalline...
Are you complaining about personnel usage for the leagues best offense in the thread dedicated to the coach who is off to the 2nd best start in the history of professional football?
Asking for a friend...
Joking aside, I don’t think Dillon picks up any of those 1st downs that Williams or Jones didn’t. Power isn’t everything, vision is probably more important. That’s why I would keep Jones in on those plays.
As the story says, since MLF has been coach we're near the bottom of the league with 1 or 2 yards to get. That's why I thought we spent a second rounder on this guy.
As for your second point, we won't know till we try.
This isn't fantasy football.
@michiganjoe posted:The Packers are interviewing 49ers assistant O-line coach Adam Stenavich for James Campen's old job as offensive line coach, according to a source. Stenavich is a Wisconsin native who actually played under Campen as a member of the Packers practice squad in 2006 and 2007. He would be a good fit to teach Matt LaFleur's offense considering he works under one of LaFleur's mentors, Kyle Shanahan.
Rob Demovsky, ESPN Staff Writer
Considering that Bakh, Linsley, Lane Taylor, Wagner, and Patrick have all missed time, and Turner, Jenkins, and Runyan have all shifted around the line, I'd say O-line coach Stenavich has done as good a job as I can recall a position coach doing in Green Bay.
Hope he intends to stay based on his unit's production to date.
