I've read a lot about how were going to get all these guys back from injury...Shields, Woodsen, Benson, Jennings....I am not counting on any of those four guys to play another snap this season.

...would feel most confident about Woodson, since it was a break & not weight bearing. Others could go either way. We really don't miss Shields, new DB's seem like an improvement. When we have both Shields & Williams on the field our tackling suffers since neither appears to like contact.
I'd be shocked if Jennings doesn't come back. That's a big FU to the Packers by keeping him on the roster all year, to only be shunned at the end of the year. Woodson will be back as well. Shields was improving, and needs to continue to get the work if possible, and Benson is a complete ???
Jennings coming back will be nice. Even if Shields does come back, I don't see him taking playing time away from House or Hayward at this time. Benson would be nice to have back. Matthews being out sucks. A lot.
Just remember, Shields is the last barrier between Bush and CB if House, Hayward, or Williams get's dinged up.

So yeah, we haven't missed him. But I'll feel a lot better when he's suited up on the sideline and available.

I wonder if the Packers are being extra careful with him this week, given 4 of the remaining 5 games (after NY) are divisional games. Maybe they don't want him to have a setback and be unavailable or not 100% going into the Minnesota game.
Agree. Matthews is the biggest loss. He's an every down difference maker.

As far as Shields coming back, if he even does, I think he'd take the most time away from McMillian. Jerron plays mostly in dime packages. He's done okay but I think Dom would rather have a better man-to-man cover guy out there.

Know who we need? Pat Lee.
Cedric Benson may still have foot surgery

Sure glad he can afford something better than group therapy.

Pretty big list of Packers who this trusted guy has worked on already:

quote:
Anderson has operated on many Green Bay players over the years, including safety Atari Bigby (ankle) in August 2010, safety Derrick Martin (ankle) in May 2010, tackle Breno Giacomini (ankle) in February 2009, defensive end Cullen Jenkins (ankle) in February 2009, center-guard Tyson Walter (big toe) in September 2007 and long snapper Rob Davis (big toe) in January 2003.

I usually dismiss this kind of statement as rhetoric, but I wonder if this is really starting to get some legs, GBFFL. It's easy for me to think of team doctors being more specialized to athletes than a GP, but it seems the Packers have had a tough time diagnosing/treating some injuries over the last few years.
Or is the type and/or location of injuries that's just tough to pinpoint. Again, it's easy to assume that x-rays/MRIs must be inconclusive, so doctors have to go with experience and training and make an educated guess.
Of course, this brings up the "what MM feeds to the media" speculation.
So who knows? I guess the truth is somewhere in between.

Excellent points all, Pakrz.
Shields return poses many questions. I would hope MM/Capers would go with the 'hot hand', as it were. The rookies have been playing well, and I wouldn't want to disrupt what they've been building up over the last few weeks. It wouldn't surprise me to see Capers using a particular plan or scheme against a specific opponent that would use Shields.
It's fun to think of Benson returning, and we could actually use all 3 RBs in their best roles. If he is indeed getting a second opinion, I would think that wouldn't bode well for his return, once again dashing our hopes for the full contingent being available.
Double ditto your comments on CM3. I have to believe if he were available, he would be going against the Giants as his pass rush will be sorely needed. Not saying they will, but the Giants certainly have the capability of tearing us up when they can match a WR against our LBs, as well as their TE.
I think the same basics might apply against QBs like Ponder; checking down to receivers 7, 10, 12 yards downfield, or AP out of the backfield. One missed tackle or blown coverage could kill us in a situation like that.
Packers go into the game as an underdog. I love MM mentality when that happens. "We aren't anybodys underdog."

How many times this year does the Pack have to play a team coming off their bye week. Sure seems to happen a lot this year. Do any other teamas have the disadvantage the Packers have had this year.
All I know is the Niners have basically been at home from Oct. 7th until the Bears game 3 days ago, including a bye.

They should have the division wrapped by now but we won't talk about the extra Seattle win.

The Packers OTOH have a brutal schedule, loads of injuries & had a win taken away.

Time to go to work on Sunday Night....right boys?
Found on the internet: i live in NJ and almost all of my friends are NYG fans. they have all told me that the giants usually stink it up coming off of their bye week. they are also worried that the game is at home being that the giants seem to do better on the road. couple that with the fact that the packers usually play their butts off during those high profile, nationally televised games and i really like our chances.
Found on the internet: I’ll add to what’s been said, There have been many, many must win games in the NFL. This IS NOT one of them. Offensively with the Packers, you are never sure what you’re going to get. As always, it’s usually a bunch of little things that combine to throw it off sync. Much depends on Rodgers. He has not been the automatic perfection we saw last year. What was nice about the Lion game was he was able to toss it all aside to finish the game in style. I see the offense as being on the verge, but not quite there for some reason. On the other hand, the defense has been a joy to watch it develop. All said and done, if the Packers play a game close to their capabilities, it’s a certain win.

I'll echo what this writer said about Rodgers. Last week wasn't his best game, but that final drive where he took them in for the winning points he was masterful. And I still remember how he ran that drive to win during the regular season against the Giants last year. That Packers last "statement game" was the win over the Texans. I think they may seize this opportunity again.
These takes are all stupid, which is hardly a surprise coming from that POS Web site. This isn't college football - there are no polls and no bowl games. You win and you move on. Who gives a frog's fat ass what the punditry thinks about 'their look' or any of that other crap?

They're trotting their JV's out there (especially on defense) again on the road against a talented team that has a lot more to lose at this point than GB does. Just like last week. If they win 13-12 and each team turns it over 4 times, it won't matter at all to me. If others choose to piss in their pants, then it'll simply be the same as it ever was.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I looked this up because I thought going on the road to play a team coming off the bye would be a huge disadvantage that would show in the record. This year it's pretty well balanced. I don't have my notes in front of me but I do remember that the Eagles had it worst. they played 4 teams coming off the bye, 3 on the road. And lost them all.

I've always thought it would be a simple matter to arrange the schedule so teams with a bye played each other the 1st week back. There were only 2 such games this year.

Didn't find it the least bit interesting.

The title was a misnomer (for lack of better word) as it did not represent the author's written opinion very well. He did not say that this next game was a must win for the Packers. I did not think the article was all that bad.

Anyway, I think the Packers need to play agressively. Play the run enough to keep the offense honest - nothing more and nothing less - we are NOT a fricken running team. We cannot consistently go down the field and score that way - very frustrating to watch. Besides, I think too many running plays adds to icing AR and his rhythem with the WR's.

Also forgot we beat the Giants in NY 38-35 last year
Hoping for a good game against the Giants, but wish more of our team could be there. Will we really be playing without 8 (!) STARTERS?

OLB Matthews
OLB Perry
ILB Bishop
S Woodson
CB Shields
WR Jennings
HB Benson
OT Bulaga

How is that not a lot worse than 2010?
