They forced Barrett to pass. It was the second down play that made the difference.

So you say there's a chance

Obviously the INT doesn’t really upset you there, but it would have been nice to give a receiver a chance there

Exactly. None of the last 4 passes had any chance. You have to throw it within a catchable radius.

Hornibrook threw 14 TDs and 14 interceptions in ten Big 10 games. With a great running game and a good defense, that's not good enough.

Lots to like about the Wisconsin program from the Head Coach on down.

But there is no way that Alex Hornibrook deserves to be in a College Football Playoff game other than holding a clipboard as the 4th string QB.

Ohio State repeatedly dared him to beat them by playing 8 or 9 guys in the box and he could not.

Wish he were graduating and there was a better option waiting in the wings for UW instead of the QB for the next 2 seasons.

I'd laugh my ass off if they didn't even make the playoffs.

I don’t think they’ll get in.  Clemson, Oklahoma, and then I can see Alabama and Georgia both getting in.  At least that’s what I hope.  F O$U.

Not a really tough schedule next year either. Just at Penn State

Iowa blew them off the field. They don't deserve to go.

Yah, but the basketball team will have another year together.....GO BADGERS GO.

From what I've seen they may need more than a year.

Too bad for the Badgers.
I despise the politics associated with the FBS system, and exhibit A was Auburn ranked #2 with 2 losses. So I was really rooting for Wisconsin to be the proverbial Cinderella and (rightfully) claiming the #1 seed.

Oh well.

Another disappointing end. Another disappointment at QB. The defense’s inability to prevent the big play was damning, but Hornibrook’s inability to elevate his level of play forced the defense to be perfect- and they weren’t going to be. But they put 7 up themselves, and forced 2 other turnovers. They played as well as they could- but. Not as dominant as I wished.

Same as last year. Bride’s maids...

Think most teams want to shut down the Badger running game and make Horni beat them but most teams can't do it as effectively as OSU. Needed really a stellar game from Horni and it wasn't there. Can't ask for much more than two possessions at the end of the game only down by six.

It really came down to the QB play.  Hornibrook made the critical mistake early throwing the pick and they gave up points and he never really recovered after that.  He was off on many of his throws including some easy dump offs.

Credit to Ohio State they came in with a solid game plan to shut down the run and force the QB to beat them and he couldn't answer the bell.   Pretty amazing that UW was even in the game at the end because they made a lot of mistakes and while you can get away with that against a Minnesota or Indiana you won't get away with it against top level competition.

Now they are left to wonder "what if" and can redeem themselves with a bowl win but yesterday was a letdown and many of the players said as much after the game.  They did not play as well as they could and unfortunately the good version of Ohio State decided to show up.

Looking ahead they will lose some key guys like Fumagalli and Tindal and some DL but they return most of their offense and several key defensive players.   They could use another good athlete on the back end of the defense and they have to get better play out of the QB position but their schedule isn't that brutal other than a road game at Penn State.

Not sure they needed a stellar game out of 12.  They just needed to avoid the "bad" Hornibrook and that version decided to show up.

Not like Barrett was perfect but he made a lot more plays and moved the chains.

Honestly they need to take a long look at Jack Coan in the offseason.  They need a playmaker at the position; heck I would be fine with a solid game manager.  You cannot have your QB turn the ball over as much as Hornibrook did this year.  The defense bailed him out a lot this season but couldn't do it against Ohio State.

I think you're wrong about that. Georgia is excellent & I was looking forward to seeing an old school defensive battle between Georgia & Wisconsin. Oh well.....

The first interception and the missed tackles on the first were the killers.  The last interception was a desperation toss.  But lets not forget the OSU over throws in the first half...2 or 3 tds were missed.  In actuality it should/could have been over.

Horni is 22-3 as a starter. Hard to bench a guy next year with that record, but I think they have to to get better.

Next year he will be a Junior and he is clearly not absent of skill.  The jump he makes next year will tell you a lot about Chryst

I disagree (kinda).  OSU had a much better offensive line than Bucky yesterday, and it played that way all game

Eat it O$U!! - You lose even though you "won" last night

The committee wants to look smart here. If Bama were to lose a semifinal blowout, that’d be a shocker, and the committee would catch jokes and scorn. If Ohio State were to lose a blowout, it’d be the fourth time in the last 12 months, and the committee would be rrrrrrrrrrroasted. The Buckeyes have proved themselves to be the risky choice.

Miami / Wisc here. A game I think is a much better matchup

It's comparing apples and oranges. OSU didn't have to respect the deep ball at all and could play 8-9 guys near the LOS. Also, the Badgers defense had to worry about Barnett being a threat to run and may have schemed to have a guy spy him instead of rushing. If the OL has to block 1-2 less guys every play, it makes it a lot easier to look good. Again, it comes down to QB play (or fear of the QB playing well and going deep) and speed in the defensive backfield (mostly at safety for the Badgers).

Agreed.  I think college football fans in general get tired of seeing Alabama in the playoffs, but you have to put them there if you are truly putting the 4 best teams in.  OSU had more losses, played in a weaker conference and got destroyed at unranked Iowa.  That doesn't scream top 4 team to many people outside of Columbus, Ohio.

We need to find another Russell Wilson next year.....or somebody not named Hornibrook.

This. 1000 times this.

If we have Russell Wilson at QB last night, or a QB remotely close to his skill set, we're playing for the National Championship. The Badgers aren't going three and out on a spin cycle, and the defense isn't gassed. Hornibrook is terrible, I'm sorry. I like the kid, but we were doomed the second he had to throw the ball 40 times. He's a human turnover machine. He has no accuracy. He can, at times, look really good. But, too often, he disappears when we need him the most. That roll out and missed pass to a wide open Troy Fumagalli was killer. The doink screen pass was killer. The seeing a defender coming for him, and taking the sack and huge loss instead of throwing it away was killer. The under-thrown wounded duck in the red zone that was picked was killer. OSU didn't fear him, so they loaded up on the run game, and that was that.

Lambeau- that's the story for Wisconsin every year except for the Russell Wilson team. If a team can't stop the run by putting 8-9 guys in the box, Wisconsin will beat anyone. If they can stop the run by loading up the box, Wisconsin QBs (who are very Hornibrook-like over the years) are adequate enough to hit guys that are running wide open in the secondary when the opposing DBs are average college level players. When the Badgers can't run into 8-9 men boxes, and the opposing DBs are NFL-level quality, then they are cooked because Hornibrook/Stave/Sorgi/ec. can't make throws unless the guys are wide open.

Chryst was masterful last night calling screens, a RB pass to the QB, unscouted FB sweeps, etc. but Hornibrook probably missed 4-5 20 yard plus plays on screens or passes to Fumagalli when he couldn't execute simple throws under mild pressure.

Hopefully the Ohio State BB game yesterday is the bottom. I don't know how it could get much worse. Making the NIT this year could be a challenge.

Well I had a feeling I was going to jinx things for the Badgers again.  I think they are 0-7 in my lifetime when I have seen them play in person.

My first thought is how much I hate many O$U fans.  They booed UW's band booed UW when Urban gave some credit to the Badgers for playing a good game.  I hope USC scores 70 points on that team I really do.

As for the game I think obviously the big plays killed UW but besides that the D seemed to adjust as the game went on and played their read option offense pretty well.  But I think ultimately it was the speed of OSU that was the difference.

Offensively I think Hornibrook was ok in spots and horrendous in others but to be fair to him there wasn't many guys open and there were 2-3 plays that the RB/WR just dropped the ball and they would have had huge gains if not some long TD's.

I am not one to complain about officiating but man there sure were some bad non calls in that game.  On one occasion the OSU DB just dragged the UW WR down and not one call.  Even the OSU homers near me said WTF a couple of times.
