Eff Minny.

Did not expect Dallas to take Frederick that early. How far does Lacy fall? Or is Ball the pick? Hankins, Jesse Williams, Kawann Short, John Jenkins, Keenan Allen, Tank Carradine, Margus Hunt, Zach Ertz, Menelik Watson, Kevin Minter, Aurthur Brown, Jamie Collins, Cyprien, Justin Hunter, Warford....There is a lot of tallent to be had in Rd 2.

So you don't build through the draft? You draft to make an immediate push for a championship?

LOL....you will spin it any way you have to.

The Vikings still have 7 total picks in the draft and got three guys in the first round.

Of course, in your mind, anybody the packlers draft from the 2nd round on will be better than anything the Vikings selected in the first round.

Can't make it up!

Drafted three guys in the first round and "traded away the future". LOL
Vikings did a nice job yesterday.

Cause no matter how many really good football players you draft. Even if you practice for months and months. When you sign some of our players and sober up some of yours it'll still be the same. Even if you call on Ragnar to stand with you and blow his fife so loud that the heavens awake.....

While Spielman is golfing or surfing porn on the internet all day today, Ted Thompson will be adding two more good players to our team. You guys don't pick again until tomorrow afternoon, and there'll be almost a hundred players off the board by that time. Do you really trust Spielman to find quality players out of that third tier of talent?

Good luck with that. I like the way this is shaking out.

Explain it for me, Einstein. Here's how the picks pan out.

Green Bay Minnesota

1st rounder 1st rounder
2nd rounder 1st rounder
3rd rounder 1st rounder
4th rounder 4th rounder
5th rounder 5th rounder
5th rounder 6th rounder
6th rounder 7th rounder
7th rounder

Yeah, I can totally see your point.

Vikings totally traded away their future!!!!

So the Vikings drafted 2 players in the 1st round while the packlers will wait until rounds 2 and 3. The horrors....

See my previous post, Dave. I know you want it so badly, but the Vikings hardly "traded away their future".
FWIW, I believe the Vikes did it the right way. Spielman really had a good draft last year and has followed it up with what looks to be another decent draft (so far) this year. Getting value in the 1st round usually isn't too hard. There are busts of course (Troy Williamson and Tony Mandarich for example) but, for the most part, 1st round picks do hang around for awhile. Spielman hasn't been great in the later rounds of drafts so maybe he decided to go ahead and use all the extra picks to move up. Never the less, the three guys are quality picks and I would assume at this point they will all stick.

The draft chart I saw had the trade to NE at like a 480 points to the Pats to 440 points to the Vikes. Not a bad trade if you evaluate them based on draft charts. The reality of this draft won't be seen for a couple of years but the Vikes did pick up three quality guys and that can't be all that bad.

The Packers picking up Jones was pretty good. He will make you guys a better team. Quick with a helluva wing span. He probably only gets a few chances to chase Ponder around this year, and then whom ever the Vikings bring in to start at QB next year will start seeing a lot more of Jones. Quality guy IMO. Good pick. But as many have stated here, TT's about to earn his money as he's one of the best at finding gems between rounds 2-5.
Jaymo, I think the point is your team has a lot more holes than ours does, and you needed the depth a lot more than we do. Yes, you added 3 good players - well, 1 very good player and 2 more who could be very good if they pan out - but in order to add that third player, you threw away 4 players who could have made your team stronger across the board.

You guys need help at a lot of positions - you have a glaring need at linebacker and to a lesser degree in the secondary, and both your offensive and defensive lines could use some help, even with the addition of Floyd. The second day of the draft is where most teams fill those holes, but you took a huge gamble, and went all in on one player. If that one guy doesn't pan out, you blew a golden opportunity to strengthen your team in one of the deepest drafts in memory - and even if he does work out, he's going to have to be pretty damned good to make up for all the linemen, linebackers, and other players you'll never even get a sniff of now.

If you're happy with that, more power to you. I wouldn't be if I were a Viking fan. The question comes down to, is Patterson going to be good enough to be worth the 4 players you gave up to get him? I don't think he's going to be. But good luck to you.
What The Champ doesn't mention is they traded away their best receiver (Harvin) and their best corner (Winfield) went elsewhere. Granted, Harvin was a headcase and Winfield wasn't getting any younger but both guys were decent players. Will the two guys they drafted in the first round be as good or better? Possibly, but it remains to be seen. Harvin and Winfield always seemed to play well against GB.

I do find it amusing how much stock people put into any one draft or free agency because it's a snapshot in time and everyone has hope. The draft and develop over the long haul approach seems to work well - ask Pittsburgh or New England and yes, the Packers.

Let the Viking idots crow about how great their first round or offseason was. Games, division titles, and playoff games aren't won in March or April.

Yeah, that's a good point, and I was thinking about that yesterday. They're not adding these two players to the pretty good team they had last season - they're using these two players to replace two really good players they lost.

And I don't think either one is going to be as good as the guy he's replacing. Even after those three 1st round picks, they're weaker at CB than they were last season, probably a little better on the defensive line because what Floyd adds as a rookie will probably be a little more than what the aging Williams has lost, and only better at WR because they added Jennings as a free agent. I'm not particularly concerned about what they did last night.
Not all Viking fans are gloating about how this draft will take them over the top. But Tschmack, you are absolutely correct about building through the draft and that seems to be the route the Vikings front office is taking....and I might add, FINALLY! No more quick fixes (just look...we drafted Ponder and that pick still infuriates me). If you look at the pieces they added they "should" make the Vikes better....but the fruits of their labor may not be seen for a couple years. The Vikes are building towards the opening of the new stadium in a few years....The approach may be slow going, but I believe you go with whats proven and finally they are putting younger talent on the field and building the way teams who have a history of winning are doing it.

Sure, you can dog the Vikes about giving up too much, and maybe thats true, but you cannot deny they picked up 3 quality guys, who, if they pan out, will be impact players. I like what Spielman has done...I hope it works out. We still have 5 picks left. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to move up into the 2nd or 3rd round and grab another guy.
the Vikings and the Bucs are in the same boat. Both have a lot of really good players but they are missing out on one main ingredient. Quaterback. Neither team has a QB that they can rely on when things get tough. Freeman and Ponder are basically the same QB and their teams are pretty much the same. Those teams could have all pros at every position but because their QB pretty much are below average their teams will always hover around being pretty good but fail to take the next step.
