Man, that 3rd round hurt. Players I wanted/thought GB might take all gettign scooped up right before the Pack got to pick

sucked that Dri Archer went right there at 97. This team needs an explosive returner

Not really impressed with Rodgers...wonder if he's just there for depth. Bostick shows more promise as a receiving threat TE IMO

Not very excited about the 3rd round picks.  DT pick is a bit of head scratcher, but somewhat understandable.  Maybe with Sutton and then Nix going, maybe TT felt there was a mini-run on DT's.  Can't count on Worthy off ACL, and none of the DT's outside Daniels are proven.

TE pick seems way too high.  That could not have been the BPA.  Abbredaris seems like a better player than R.Rodgers.

Whenever I'm upset because TT drafted a guy I have never heard of, I think of Nick Collins andGreg Jennings.  When TT drafts a player I know and who Mel Kiper says was a steal, I think of Brian Brohm and Abdul Hodge.

You just never know.  Let's just see what they do on the field.

I'm with a lot of you guys, scratching my head with the two third round picks. I had the draft tracker on my phone, and as we got closer I was hoping Borland would fall. That's a guy I REALLY wanted. Non stop motor, always around the ball.

But then, I think of this. Thompson is like a scout. He's at all the combines. He sees all these players, he gets a chance to compare all the players to each other. He sees something in these two guys that he liked. So, we'll see.

This TE basically sounds like the next Andrew Quarless for them. Still think Bostick is this teams future receiving TE and Rodgers ends up as the backup

Day 3 coming up and this team still has Hawk/Jones penciled in as their ILB's...for a 3rd straight year. That doesn't look good on them for having this go on for so long. This D can't truly take that next leap until they significantly improve their ILB situation

They really need Raji to rebound this year or it looks like they'll be soft up the middle again with teams gashing them in the run game

sf definitely the best draft through 2 days

You forgot about the Badgers lovefest on this board that Thompson never drafts and they hardly amount to anything

Great, grab them in the 4th or 5th then...

Pretty much this.  There were a lot of people who thought TT reached when he traded up to grab Matthews as well.  Nobody remembers that though.

These feel a little like boom/bust picks.  Thorton is another shot at the Worthy get-off-the-ball-quick DE and Rodgers comes from a football family like Matthews did.

Also I find it interesting everyone seems to like the Adams pick when there was a WR still sitting in the green room we could have taken over him.  I'll trust the scouting until I'm proven wrong.

Bryan Fischer of NFL.com has his grades through three first two days. He has Green Bay as one of the six best drafts thus far:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/...des-for-all-32-teams

"Passed with flying colors"

Green Bay Packers: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (21st), Davante Adams (53rd), Khyri Thornton (85th), Richard Rodgers (98th)
The skinny: A pair of highly rated players fall down to the Packers and Ted Thompson celebrates.Aaron Rodgers will really like throwing to Adams, who should contribute early. Thornton should be able to learn from B.J. Raji and then replace him. Rodgers is an interesting choice but certainly has the talent to be a player in the league.

Uncle Ted doing what he feels are the best fits on this team.

I hope both 3rd rd guys play 10+ years and make the Hall of Fame.  Ted could have had both of these guys with his 5th rd picks.  There are players that will be off the board in the 5th that could have helped us had they been picked in rd 3.  Sorry Ted these picks are only surpassed in poor judgment by Atlanta taking a Badger in rd 3.

I like the first two picks (Dix and Adams) but I'll admit I know little about the DT or TE they took later.   I'm with the rest of you guys though in that I have to trust in TT because he's TT.

What's interesting is that Sutton and Nix were picked right before the Packers and I think that might have been a factor?  Who knows.

Oh, and thankfully I'm not a Falcons fan.  Why their braintrust drafted Dez Southward before a guy like Chris Borland is mind blowing to me.   Unbelievable.

Chris Borland - Big Ten defensive player of the year.  Not Dennard, not Roby, not Shazier, not Hageman, I could go on and on.

So Dez is 6' and runs a 4.4-40 and that should catapult him up the draft. Too bad he has terrible instincts and can't cover centerfield.

At some point production and past performance as a football player should matter.  I can't believe I'm going Johnny Z but Borland can play and the rich just got richer and the Falcons will be drafting in the top 10 next year.

I remember being so excited when the Pack picked Leshon Johnson.  He had been at the top of Kiper's "best available" list for two rounds.  He'd received Heisman votes, scouts raved about him, and we got him in the third round.

That is what I reflect on when Ted doesn't pick a Big Ten guy I watched play a couple games.

*still hoping Abby falls to Ted in the 5th round...

I give Bryan Fischer an F-.  Every team at this point should have an I for their draft.  Not because there's still a day left in the draft, but because none of these players have even been in an NFL OTA let alone training camp, exhibition game, or real game.

"Chris Borland - Big Ten defensive player of the year.  Not Dennard, not Roby, not Shazier, not Hageman, I could go on and on."

And Michael Sams was the Southeastern Conference Defensive player of the year.

And Tim Tebow won the Heisman.

Borland does not transition well into the NFL. Not in my opinion anyways.

Adams (6'2" with a 40" vertical) and Rodgers (6'4" with a basketball background) tell me Mike and Ted were tired of settling for red zone FG's last year.

Adams and Rodgers are both rated as physical guys that compete hard for the ball.

My Day 3 Wish List:

  • Max Bullough
  • Robert Herron
  • Josh Mauro
  • Wesley Johnson
  • Andre Hal
  • Josh Stewart
  • Beau Allen
  • Keith McGill
  • Taylor Hart
  • Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
  • Larry Webster
  • Jordan Tripp
  • Carl Bradford
  • Brent Urban
  • Ethan Westbrooks
  • James Gayle

Who knows if the picks are any good or not. In my mind TEd gets the benefit of the doubt. Mark Murphy was interviewed yesterday and said some people that are on their board as 4th or 5th round picks were being picked in the 1st round on Thursday. I am hoping those other teams are using the draft guides we all read and Ted is the only one getting it right.

Saw a stat yesterday that just might swing the Thorton haters the other way. The only game Thortons team has won since 2011, Thorton was out with an injury.

That's the kind of deep insight that doesn't show up in scouting reports.

People need to stop bitching about Ted "reaching"

"Quoted" & underlined for effect. wait until the re-draft is done in 3 years.

My niner fan friend was goofing around & saying...."Who the "F" is Jimmy Ward. Whooo is this BUM!"

I mentioned he was the guy I initially picked for the Packers to take at #21 (in Pakrz's thread) & he's an excellent football player. My mistake was I didn't realize Ha-Ha would ever be there at #21.

After looking up some more info on Ward, he realized why they took him at #30. This happened to be a player he didn't focus on as he really wanted a WR for SF (which they need **cough** Davante Adams **cough**) & they also need some DB's.

So in the end....just because none of you focused on a player like Khiry or Richard Rodgers in round 3 doesn't make either pick a "reach". These GM's know where players are slotted to go.

Ted has proven time & again he makes the best pick he can with the info he has at the time. Then he moves along. He does a great job at drafting & looks at all angles so everyone needs to chill out. I think he's earned some leeway. Stop acting like a spoiled child just because he didn't take your player that you have focused on.

Maybe if he missed a few more they might have been a BCS team....
