McShart latest mock has Packers taking Clemson WR Tee Higgins at #30 and Florida State RB Cam Akers in the 2nd at #62...he has both Mims and Pittman, two WR who fit the Packers WR mold to a T, way more than Higgins, going in the 2nd round.

McShart used to have a higher level of credibility than most of these humps, but he has degraded into another shit-flinger to just see what sticks on the wall.

I don’t give McShart much credibility, but I don’t think Higgins is a poor fit. He’s atypical for a Ted Thompson receiver for sure, but Gute drafted 3 different build/speed/quickness receivers in 2018 and thus far hasn’t shown to be a huge stickler for the Thompson/Wolf parameters. Jaire wasn’t a typical TT CB. Higgins has a high upside and he turned 21 in January.

He needs to change it every week for clicks, it's to his advantage to be all over the place

People, many people, use this approach when communicating or sharing information on a particular subject with those interested.

In Kiper’s latest mock. He has us taking.

I thought we might go that route, too, but then we signed Funchess.

You don't modify your draft for a guy on a one year prove it contract.

It might change the type of wideout you target.

Not for a guy that's here for one year. If he had signed a 3 year contract then maybe that changes your draft strategy a bit.

Funchess needs to be considered as much a camp body as any UDFA considering his middling performances and injury history.

Quarterback will, of course, be a thought for many here. But I don't see it. Baun is a versatile linebacker who can not only replace Blake Martinez in the middle, but can be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades type in Mike Pettine's defense. Baun can be your traditional LB or he can work in the passing game and blanket tight ends. Not a first-round pick in many mock drafts, but I know quite a few teams who like him as an end-of-first/early-second-round guy.

I would take this draft IMMEDIATELY The 1st two picks alone would be crazy. I love Bowden as a Cobb like guy you create mismatches for. Bayless is an interesting development type WR, and Breeland in in the 7th is a nice value. Got hurt, but has way more talent than a 7th rounder... PLUS LAMAR JACKSON!

30 Grant Delpit, S LSU

62 Raekwon Davis, IDL Alabama

94 Saahdiq Charles, OT LSU

136 Lynn Bowden, WR Kentucky

175 Javelin Guidry, CB Utah

192 Omar Bayless, WR Arkansas State

208 Lamar Jackson, CB Nebraska

209 Francis Bernard, LB Utah

236 Raequan Williams, IDL Michigan State

242 Jacob Breeland, TE Oregon

Delpit similar to Deonne Buchanan...he would be an immediate upgrade to Raven Greene.

Davis is a massive human being...some people have said he's too tall to play inside in the NFL...but they said the same thing about John Henderson. Again, an immediate upgrade to Lowry...also, if we get him in the 2nd, keeps him away from the 49ers who will be looking for a replacement for Buckner.

an interior made of Raekwon/quans who can argue over who spells it right would be worth it straightaway.

You know, I was really high on Raekwon Davis, but in the past two seasons, he really hasn't done that much to distinguish himself...like he's been mailing it in...or injured. Most analysts have him rated no higher than the 2nd round.

My thoughts on players: feel free to disagree or say "hell, yeah!".   LOL

I'm not an expert on football... just love the game, the pre-season process, and the Green Bay Packers.

QB - refer to the article today on Packerswire why we don't need to take one early...'nuff said...good article...you should read it, if you haven't already.

RB - depends on what the team wants to do concerning AJ's contract year. Do they have anything in Dexter? If not, find someone to push for the #2 or #3 role, with an upside to be the feature back if AJ gets too expensive to keep.

WR - as a forum, we seem to be all over the board on who we should take, and where. Let's focus on what we do know.

1) We need a legit #2. Anyone disagree on that?

2) The question then becomes, do we need someone to stretch the field, or someone to win from the slot? That determines who you're going to draft. Maybe we can land the guy that can win from both positions, much like Davante does. That would be my highest hope. Who is that guy? You tell me...maybe it's Mims, Pittman, Jefferson, Higgins, or Claypool. I'm mentioning guys who will realistically be on the board at 30, or 62.

TE - If you want a TE early, I honestly think it should be Claypool. If not, maybe Trautman, or some mid-rounder.

OL - No question we need a tackle...should be a high priority. I don't know who the team likes, so I'll refer you to the RAS score article on Packerswire...you decide for yourself.

https://packerswire.usatoday.c...-packers-tendencies/

DL - I think the team needs a good nose tackle to solidify the run defense and free up Clark. The 4th and 5th rounds look like a good place to find one. Maybe someone later to develop behind Lowry.

LB - Here's another spot we're all focused on. With the signing of Kirksey, it seems clear the team wants him to be the man in the middle. The problem I see is his injury history. I can't see us going through the draft and not finding a complementary linebacker to go along with him. Who should that be? Arguably, you want a three-down prospect who can do all things...not a lot of those guys in this draft...maybe Willie Gay. I think Zach Baun could be that guy, but it will take a high pick...Logan Wilson can be found in 3 or 4, like Gay. Troy Dye certainly, maybe round 3.

S - Maybe the team goes with a hybrid safety-linebacker to complement Kirksey. I could see that, too...Dugger and Chinn fit the bill...maybe there's another player or two who fit. I don't know.

CB - Can't have enough good corners, right? I think we'll certainly draft one...

Those are my thoughts...just want to add some ideas for discussion.

Gravedigger:  After looking at your thought's I did a little shopping for info about Danny Pinter as I did not see him play this year.  I agree with your assessment he does seem to have a little of Bulaga in him. That is a positive as well as negative- he seems to have the same slower feet -I just hope the smarts and grit that Bulaga used to overcome that are also in as much evidence.  You just can't tell with You tube clips but I do agree he would be a good selection if available in rd 4. Thanks for providing another name t o watch for in 3 weeks!

He is in the β€œIt can’t hurt” category. It’s not like the team is rolling in cap money anyway. Yah, he has struggled with the dropsies, but he was ok with the Panthers. He may be motivated to play with a better QB than Newton.

I don't dislike the signing but I don't think it moves the needle that much when it comes to need at the position.  I just don't think you can call him a fix for #2 or even #3 position.  He has the potential to be that but proof is in the puddin'.

Funchess is a savvy vet who knows how to use his big body. He pushes Kumerow off the roster and  is insurance in case Lazard is maxxed out.
He's stout enough to block in the run game, which is key for MLF and he's good enough to beat # 3 -4  CBs .
He's not running by them,  but they aren't knocking him around like they did with MVS last year. Nice addition, and he'll make the 53

Article from Feb 2019 - Funchess and Benjamin (both Panthers) were top 10 in drops in 2018. Correlation?

Benjamin is of course a lost cause.

{snip}

Funchess has shown far more potential. While the drop numbers were ugly, it doesn’t represent his complete body of work. Dropping several passes in front of his hometown crowd against the Lions seemed to sap his confidence and he wasn’t the same after. However, Funchess has developed a great deal as a route runner and has always been a better competitor.

Chinn or Davidson would be big athletic upgrades, and Ok could be really good if he can shake the injury bug. I really like Johnson, as well, and he'd give them a very good defensive backfield, when all are healthy.

I liken Cephus to Cooper Kupp, while Victor and Bowden are guys I think could be sneaky good. They don't have enough high picks to grab more-likely playmakers and I'm not "jumping the board" because I don't think Gutekunst will.

Of course I'm going by TDN's (or whomever's board) with some of my own valuations mixed in.
