That's a nice haul for the Lions - 2 future First Rounders, a Third, and a starting QB who's played in the SB.  There are plenty of starting QBs worse than Goff.

Not gonna lie, glad Stafford is out of the Central/North.  He always seemed to play pretty well against the Packers.

That is a shit ton of capital.  Yes, Stafford is clearly an upgrade but he's a better Kirk Cousins basically.  He's also taken a pretty good beating in his years in Detroit.  You have to wonder how long he can play.

If Detroit can turn Goff into a consistent game manager QB instead of supposed long ball gun slinger that's just gravy on top of the deal.  Unless the Lions are thinking of packaging some of those picks to go get Lawrence or the like.  Considering they have to suck up Goff's contract it'll be interesting to see what the Lions do in the draft.  Can't imagine they're going to have many FA options now.

And still never won anything just like Cousins.  I think he'll be more successful with the Rams but he still has that tendency to throw some crucial picks.

Lions are likely going to be good in 2-3 years (about the time that Jordan Love will be taking over in Green Bay).

I'm praying Rodgers plays until he's 45 and we trade Jordan Love to Detroit after they eat Goff's contract when the cut him.

Love will not start more than 4 games for the Packers, and Rodgers's replacement is currently not on the roster.

I wonder how many picks were just to get Stafford versus how many were just related to the fact they were desparate to get out from under Goff's contract.

I don't know the Lions cap situation or Goff's contract but I can't imagine it will be remotely friendly for FA.  I would bet there is zero chance Goff would restructure after being traded.

Edit:  I need a cap weinie like GD to clarify this but it looks like the Lions are in deep shit when it comes to the cap after picking up Goff.  I must be missing something.

Lions Cap

Edit edit:  I'm definitely not reading this correctly.  Every team is in serious shit, and by a lot, with $175 million cap.

Goff’s contract is not a long term problem for the Lions. Zero dead money after 2022. They’ll draft their future starter this year or next.  It’s a great trade for the Lions IF they use the draft capital wisely.

Its a good deal for the Rams too.  They’re out from guaranteed money for the next two years so it frees up cap space to retain some of their pending FAs. If Stafford stays healthy, they’re the best team in the West....for now.

While we don't know yet about Love, we did okay with Savage, Gary, Alexander, and Clark, who are either excellent (Alexander, Clark) or rounding into shape (Savage, Gary). Before that, a five-year dry spell...

The west may look like the old Black & Blue north. Rams, Seahawks, and cardinals all with above average qb’s and SF getting it’s defensive players back from injury.

But, but, but, the purple FTW guy was thinking the vikings would trade Cousins to SF and then go after QB Deshaun Watson, to get to the SB, in short order. To hell with the salary cap/ contractual nightmares, this may cause. Spielman could trade the remainder of his defense to cover the cap issues and give Zimmer another eyepatch to wear when his offense wasn't on the field.

Enough ammo to go get D. Watson ?
