Packers already made him an offer that would put him in top 5 RBs pay & he turned it down .....teams would be foolish to offer him more. Jones is a good player, great team guy, but he did play with the top ranked o-line and QB in the league, he will not be as productive on another team.
And he keeps getting dinged, even as GB rotated his snap count among other backs this year pretty well. If he's overused, I bet Jones suffers a major injury pretty quickly. Not that I'd ever want it to happen, just that it seems like he's destined if he's overworked.
@NatalieEgenolf: Source is telling me Bears deal for Carson Wentz is close. Foles is speculated to be included with another offensive player and a first rounder... Name Iβm hearing is Tarik Cohen, a first rounder and yes world, Nick Foles.
Cool! Wentz really kicked our ass when we played the Eagles this year.
I would love to see that trade happen. I'm sure the bears coaching staff can turn him around just like they coached up Mitch.
I have no clue what Wentz's issues are and whether they're fixable but let's be honest, the Bears ain't the team to fix him.
I honestly don't know how Philly can absorb the cap hit for trading Wentz. His 2021 cap number is 35M (up from 19M in 2020). The dead cap number for Philly in 2021 is 59M. So the Eagles are going to absorb 40M more in 2021 for Wentz and he will not be on the team...and they will be trading for another 10M in contracts (Foles -7M and Cohen -3M)...that is a total of 50M more - and most of this cannot be redirected to future years by adjusting contracts.
Somewhere I read that Wentz did not like to be coached. That will go over well with Nagy. Watch for fireworks if that's the case.
Andrew Brandt was adamant for months that Wentz would never be traded due to the massive cap hit, the significant resources spent to draft Wentz, and the cash investment made last year. Getting rid of him would be a total admission that the organization made a huge mistake, which just doesn't happen. Only explanation is that the entire organization, from owner down to the players, does not think Wentz can be rehabilitated, and that the owner is ok tearing this down in 2021, getting a high draft pick in 2022, and restarting.
Kind of makes you wonder why any team would be interested in trading for Wentz. Teams don't give up on their QB after this type of investment. Must be huge on field and locker room issues here. So yes, I firmly believe the Bears should trade whatever they have to to get him.
Aaron Jones = Leveon Bell
He should have taken the deal GB offered.
Time to spend that capital elsewhere
The NFCC game didn't help his cause very much. I'd love to see him back, but who knows if that offer is still on the table?
Jones offer as reported was very team-friendly (light on guarantees) and Packers would undoubtedly love for him to sign it.
I want Jones back like everyone else, but there just isn't a history of investing cap resource (unlike draft resources) in running backs and it working out well.
The #Texans are releasing star JJ Watt, source said.

Houston, I wanted you to hear this directly from me... pic.twitter.com/YqT3P6Lb6l
β JJ Watt (@JJWatt) February 12, 2021
No. Unless he agrees to the vetβs discount of all vetβs discounts.
Good for him getting released. He deserved way better for far too many years. And for those envisioning him being the 2013 version of him in 2021, just stahhp. Heβs not. Heβs an oft injured vet in the twilight of his career.
He plays a position of need and heβs the same age Reggie White was when he came to GB. He played 16 games last year, and heβs better than all but one of your current DL. And heβs a frickinβ Watt... pride and joy of Pewaukee.
Get his ass on this team.
Guessing Watt ends up in some place like Tampa or Baltimore
More "going all in" bullshit amirite!
@ilcuqui posted:No. Unless he agrees to the vetβs discount of all vetβs discounts.
Unfortunately that is true in my opinion and I am sure Watt knows GB can't pay him what he is used to getting paid. But, man it is sure fun to think about if it could happen!
I don't think Watt is someone you actively go after unless the price is extremely compelling.
The upside of going after him would be getting rid of Preston Smith and his $32,000,000 cap hits in 2021/22, but even that isn't a position for position move and would depend on what defensive scheme they are trying to draw up.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. I think some team is going to offer him something like 20 million a year and he'll go there.
If he stays in a more manageable salary range, here's a way to look at this that would be cost-neutral from a salary cap perspective for the Packers.
Dean Lowry has a 6.3 million cap hit next year and counts 3.0 in dead cap if cut. Preston Smith has a 16.0 million cap hit and counts 8.0 in dead cap if cut.
These are two possible scenarios
1. Keep Lowry and P. Smith and allocate 22.3 million of the cap to them.
1. Release Lowry and P. Smith and allocate 11.0 million of dead cap to them and sign JJ Watt for 11.3 million a year.
Would you trade Lowry and P. Smith for JJ Watt even up? I would every fu!king day of the week.
My guess is JJ will go to a contender next year and make them better.
He fits a position of need and is still a good player. This is one you definitely try to make work. If it doesnβt, it doesnβt, but itβs definitely one to take a hard look at. Unfortunately, I donβt know if teams have info on what the actual cap will be yet.

Ooof, that's a damning list.
The Houston Texans released JJ Watt this morning and his brother TJ is already recruiting him to join the Steelers https://t.co/17hTMljiyF

If JJ Watt goes to Pittsburgh because ******* was drafted by them in 2017, there are going to be many keyboards that explode on this forum. Trading ******* for Kevin King and Vince Biegel (which is who were drafted with the picks that were exchanged) is the gift that will keep on giving.
Going to be interesting to see who can really afford him if he wants anything like he was going to get in Houston (I think a 18M cap figure). I looked up the approximate salary cap space per team and it looks like it could be interesting.
Would he go to a crappy team like the Jags, Bengals, Jets, and Broncos where he could make the most money or would he go to a contender and make less to chase the Lombardi Trophy?
Teams like Tampa and Baltimore are obviously top tier teams but they have current players they need to pay first so can they afford him?
Tshmacks wife already has 91 punched in on the phone.
Just saw JJ's video.....he was wearing a Badger shirt.....just sayin.
Here's a 2-year $31 million fully guaranteed deal for J.J. Watt and how it works for Green Bay:
β Andy Herman (@AndyHermanNFL) February 12, 2021
2021 Cap Hit: $6 million
2022 Cap Hit: $15 million
2023 Cap Hit: $10 million (while not on the team)
He was set to make $17.5 mil for Houston and had trade interest per @RapSheet pic.twitter.com/5BfFq0lDkP
One would think after all the losing games and cashing checks that he may prefer a contender.
The funny thing is had Ted just drafted TJW then JJ would already be on the roster
Steelers canβt afford him

Yeah, the negative butterfly effects of Ted not drafting TJ is funny ... in a macabre way.
Lots of folks saying Watt is old, injured, and washed and he certainly will never again play like the 3-time NFL Defensive player he was in his prime.
But on the most dysfunctional team and one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2020, his PFF grade was still a pretty decent 85.5.
For sake of comparison, Packer DT/DE stalwarts Tyler Lancaster, Montravius Adams, and Dean Lowry finished 64.8, 63.1, and 57.3, respectively.

Weren't both Watt brothers on that roster this season? Pittsburgh is a perfect landing spot for JJ, and they're a team that goes and gets pieces they need. Wouldn't be surprised at all if the Steelers made it work somehow.
