I honestly don't know how Philly can absorb the cap hit for trading Wentz.  His 2021 cap number is 35M (up from 19M in 2020).  The dead cap number for Philly in 2021 is 59M.  So the Eagles are going to absorb 40M more in 2021 for Wentz and he will not be on the team...and they will be trading for another 10M in contracts (Foles -7M and Cohen -3M)...that is a total of 50M more - and most of this cannot be redirected to future years by adjusting contracts.

Andrew Brandt was adamant for months that Wentz would never be traded due to the massive cap hit, the significant resources spent to draft Wentz, and the cash investment made last year. Getting rid of him would be a total admission that the organization made a huge mistake, which just doesn't happen. Only explanation is that the entire organization, from owner down to the players, does not think Wentz can be rehabilitated, and that the owner is ok tearing this down in 2021, getting a high draft pick in 2022, and restarting.

Kind of makes you wonder why any team would be interested in trading for Wentz. Teams don't give up on their QB after this type of investment. Must be huge on field and locker room issues here. So yes, I firmly believe the Bears should trade whatever they have to to get him.

Unfortunately that is true in my opinion and I am sure Watt knows GB can't pay him what he is used to getting paid.  But, man it is sure fun to think about if it could happen!

Unfortunately, I think you are right. I think some team is going to offer him something like 20 million a year and he'll go there.

If he stays in a more manageable salary range, here's a way to look at this that would be cost-neutral from a salary cap perspective for the Packers.

Dean Lowry has a 6.3 million cap hit next year and counts 3.0 in dead cap if cut. Preston Smith has a 16.0 million cap hit and counts 8.0 in dead cap if cut.

These are two possible scenarios

1. Keep Lowry and P. Smith and allocate 22.3 million of the cap to them.

1. Release Lowry and P. Smith and allocate 11.0 million of dead cap to them and sign JJ Watt for 11.3 million a year.

Would you trade Lowry and P. Smith for JJ Watt even up? I would every fu!king day of the week.

If JJ Watt goes to Pittsburgh because ******* was drafted by them in 2017, there are going to be many keyboards that explode on this forum. Trading ******* for Kevin King and Vince Biegel (which is who were drafted with the picks that were exchanged) is the gift that will keep on giving.

Going to be interesting to see who can really afford him if he wants anything like he was going to get in Houston (I think a 18M cap figure).  I looked up the approximate salary cap space per team  and it looks like it could be interesting.

Would he go to a crappy team like the Jags, Bengals, Jets, and Broncos where he could make the most money or would he go to a contender and make less to chase the Lombardi Trophy?

Teams like Tampa and Baltimore are obviously top tier teams but they have current players they need to pay  first so can they afford him?

The funny thing is had Ted just drafted TJW then JJ would already be on the roster

Steelers can’t afford him

Yeah, the negative butterfly effects of Ted not drafting TJ is funny ... in a macabre way.

Lots of folks saying Watt is old, injured, and washed and he certainly will never again play like the 3-time NFL Defensive player he was in his prime.

But on the most dysfunctional team and one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2020, his PFF grade was still a pretty decent 85.5.

For sake of comparison, Packer DT/DE stalwarts Tyler Lancaster, Montravius Adams, and Dean Lowry finished 64.8, 63.1, and 57.3, respectively.
