Don’t know how to post a Tweet, but this guy seems to think JJ is headed to the Bears.

**edit - the obvious question is, “WTF is Michael Balko, Jr,???”  So take it with a grain of salt I suppose.

They say his biggest considerations are QB in place and SB contender. Chicago has neither unless they're going to do a Herschel Walker trade for Deshaun Watson...which would be hilarious because although Trubisky was a big problem, I don't think he was THE problem in Chicago. If he's chasing money, as he should sign with whoever will give him the most, then more power to him. If his demands are $15-20M/year then GB shouldn't be involved, but if it's anything <$15M and GB can't figure it out then shame on them.

Watson would be a fool to go to the Bears. Pace and Nagy are on the verge of being fired at anytime and the Bears cannot afford to mortgage their future on one guy.

Watt to Chicago makes even less sense IMO.

No doubt. Doubt Watson wants the shit storm brewing in Chicago, I don't know why Watt would want that either. They're further from a SB than Cleveland and I don't think of Cleveland as necessarily a contender as much as I do just a good team who will cap out early in the playoffs. Ultimately their ownership will constantly hold them back. They  have money though.

I sure the hell hope Watson doesn't end up in Chicago but if you're going to make another blockbuster move, that's it.  Shit, Watson wanted say in the coaching in Houston, which is insane.  If ownership tells him they'll get a stooge GM to hire the coach and system he wants then he may sign on.

That would be glorious.  I can't think of a faster way to tank a team for years to come.

The problem is unlike the Jets or Dolphins or Panthers the Bears have the 20th overall pick in the 2021 draft.  Those others teams have top ten picks.  The Dolphins and Jets have two 1st rounders and Carolina is picking 8th overall so the Bears would almost have offer their 1st rounder this year, next year, and in 2023 plus a player like Roquan Smith to make it work.

The other factor is Houston will likely want a QB coming back to them along with picks.  The Jets can send them Darnold, and the Dolphins can send them Tua.

Clearly, the Dolphins are in the best position to make a deal.

As for Watt, he really only has 3 choices to make an impact and win a title - TB, GB, and Buffalo.  Cleveland is a nice story and all, but I don’t trust them one bit not to fuck things up royally because well, that’s like what they do.   The Steelers are unsettled at QB and can’t afford him. Perhaps Baltimore is a dark horse candidate.

If I were Watson, only teams I'd go to are San Francisco and Miami.  San Fran has a great coach, a stable front office, great offensive weapons, and a solid defense.  Miami does not have a great track history in the front office but I think they got it right on their coach and since they can include Tua and an extra first and second in the package, the trade won't necessarily gut the roster.  And they were an 11 win team last year and still have first and second round picks this year to add to the offense.

Chicago is a mess with their only offensive weapon ready to leave.  Denver has no owner, just turned over their front offense, and the coach is likely gone after this year.  The Jets are a disaster in every way.  Unsure about Carolina.  They've been pretty irrelevant the last 2 years so other than McCaffrey, barely know anything about them.  Probably answers my question if they're a good spot for Watson.

So I think it's down to San Fran and Miami.

why is miami so down on tua already?  i mean, give up all those picks and tua for watson, i get he's a proven qb, but tua hasn't really been given any shot...i don't think he was that bad and he now has a year under his belt, with all the covid stuff, i can't believe the chatter about pulling the chute on the kid already, man.  am i missing something?

I would imagine the thought is that Tua might be a great, franchise QB but Watson is already a top 10 QB.

This.

Brady threw 3 picks with no pressure. He would have had a couple more if there was any heat on him. More than likely that pass at the end of the half wouldn't have happened either.

How many games were bitch fests on defense when opposing QB's picked apart the Packers. Bears game was a good example. Even Goff with a bad Flipper hand was doing reasonably well. Get after the QB with four and even the Packers ILB's and Josh Jackson at corner would look good with a QB with the yips from running for his life.

I think Top 10 is too conservative.

If there was no salary cap, who would you rather have than D. Watson right now?

Patrick Mahomes is pretty much the end of the discussion. Sure, Rodgers is better too, but he's Watson is 12 years younger.

This nfl.com article ranks Watson as the 4th best QB after Rodgers, Brady, and Mahomes. And if you could get Watson even up for either Rodgers or Brady right now, both the Packers and the Bucs would do that deal. Watson is a 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowl QB with a career passer ranking higher than Rodgers. He's also 4th all-time in TD to Interception ratio.

The only reason not to trade Tua and a Stafford-level group of draft picks for him is the difference in the contract.

Tampa got by with average corner play because their front seven was so damn good.  A big part of that was the DL.  Their edge rushers often got singled up due to Suh drawing a double team and Devon White and Lavonte David cleaned up everything else within 10 yards of the LOS.

Clearly, the Packers can’t solve for the LB issue in one offseason, but adding Watt would mean that you couldn’t just double up on Clark which is what most teams did to GB this year.   In fact, I think Watt and Clark were doubled more than any other DLs in the league this year.

Between Watt and Z and Clark and Gary someone will break free and opposing teams will have to deal with it.  It also makes the ILB issues less of an issue.

If we were down the road a bit more on Rodgers, I'd take Watson in a heartbeat. Put a competent staff and team around that kid, and there's no telling how great he could be. His numbers approached ARod territory this year on a dumpster fire of a situation.

Who are we going to cut to make room for JJ Watt, if he comes here? Preston Smith will likely be gone. Who else will make up the difference in Watt's cap hit? Do we let Kevin King walk and use his salary savings on the cap? Do we use our back up CBs next season, in place of King? I think JJ Watt, in GB, would be fantastic. I think he will have a lot left in the tank, similar to what Julius Peppers did, when he came here. It's exciting to talk of him coming home, but how do we make it a reality when we are faced with the salary cap we have?

There's always a lever for everything. A Rodgers restructure could create anywhere from $9M to $25M depending on what lever they pull. A new contract for Davante could reduce his cap number $5-$8M depending on how much they push off to future years. There's room to restructure ZSmith, Clark, PSmith, and probably Amos as well. The question isn't whether GB could make room for Watt, the question is whether they should and what the line is. This the situation where you find out exactly how good your "cap guru" is and how good your GM is at finding rookie contributors. It would be easy to restructure a bunch of deals and push the hurt out over the next few years, but there's a price to be paid obviously for that type of move. That's what these "all-in" teams have done, to some extent, and they've been saddled with dead money and bad contracts for years following their SB win.
