Guessing they thought Amari probably wouldn’t be jumping in right away so this gives him some time to learn the system and gives Arod someone he knows and trusts as far as route running, etc.  And, throws Arod a bone.   But, who knows how many games Cobb will be healthy for.  Hopefully all.

Cobb as the 4th or 5th option at WR should make it through the season. When you are counting on him as a #2ish guy you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Looks like the trade for Cobb was a 6th rounder, plus Houston picks up $3 mil of the salary.

Thanks for the info. I’m good with that.

This is the kind of deal we have been begging for.     Make a trade for a Vet at a position of need with your ample late round picks.     Imagine if we would have done this with S or ILB over the past 5 to 10 years.

Were would we be without those 6th round picks?

  • Simon Stepaniak
  • Dexter Williams
  • Ka'dar Hollman
  • EQS
  • Kofi Amichia
  • Trevor Davis
  • Aaron Ripkowski
  • Christian Ringo
  • Kennard Backman
  • Demetri Goodson
  • Charles Johnson
  • DJ Smith
  • Ricky Elmore

Sure. Every NFL team will part with nearly starting caliber players for a 6th rounder.  If Gutey traded that type of player and cash for a 6th rounder  you would be calling for him to be fired.   Too many guys play fantasy football with no salary cap,  Gutey plays real football.

Complaining about how some of the outgoing vets were treated? They got too expensive. You think Woody, TJ or Mathews would take a pay cut?  Now if AR offered to take a cut to keep some of these core guys and the FO office ignored him I could see his beef

If you’re to believe what Rodgers said today in his PC, then yes he specifically stated Woodson, Jordy (and maybe others-can’t remember) would have taken pay cuts to remain in GB. Go back to tape. He said it.

So “the organization knows more about personnel”?

That's my opinion, yes. They're all marginal players that far down the roster and the differences aren't significant. I guess I'm not a fan of players micromanaging personnel decisions.

Judging by his extensive laundry list of those players wronged by the franchise perhaps he should have taken over for Ted Thompson years ago.

He was better than Malik useless Taylor (who sucked in all areas and was quite possibly the worst returner in our franchise’s history) and Darius fall-down Shepherd.

He returned a grand total of nine kickoffs last year (and admittedly wasn't good at it). Think age and a lack of upside were really the factors in the team going away from WWJ.

Regardless, AR appears to have been willing to tolerate all the mistreatment and mistakes from the FO until Gutey committed the ultimate sin of drafting his replacement. That's really the only personnel move that matters in this whole discussion.

I’ve listened to the AR presser a few times now and I have to admit he comes across as pretty genuine and contrite which is a nice change from his usual meandering conversations and statements.

Now they can turn the page and focus on getting that next elusive championship in 2021.  Beyond that?  I’m guessing he’s moving on.

He also made a point that the way players were let go didn't sit well with him. He clearly didn't think all these guys needed to be re-signed but deserved a little more respect in the way they were let go. I'm betting some of them found out by a phone call or text message or through their agent instead of meeting in person with the GM or team rep.

I’m sure there are plenty of ex Packers who could confirm either way. Never heard much from them..

He didn't say anything about "micro-managing" in his presser.  All he was saying was get some input from the guy throwing the ball, like lots of organizations do.  It makes sense.

"Maybe run it by me before you cut the receiver having the second best camp, maybe I can change your mind."  (If not, fine.)  That's not trying to be GM, that's just checking all your sources before you decide.  It's just smart.

He also said it wasn't about necessarily keeping the aging vets, just showing a little more ceremony and respect to guys like Woodson and Jordy on their way out the door, rather than just yellow slipping them.   Listen close to the presser, the "laundry list" were not players he was saying they should have necessarily kept.

1) "Upside" is exactly what the practice squad is for, if the players even have it, which Taylor and Shepherd did not.  Which Rodgers knew at the time and ended up being right about.

2) False.
