Hats off to Ty Summers for coming in and not letting the defense completely fall apart when Kirksey left.

There were multiple plays were the Packers showed blitz early and Brees changed the call and the Pack D still appeared  to come with the same blitz.  On the other side, the Saints defense changed several times as AR changed the call.
But the Pack still won.

The Packers defense needs an on-field maestro calling the plays at inside LB.
Kirksey might be that guy, but Ty Summers isn't there yet.

BTW, nice job by Keke Kingsley tonight.

With the bye in Week 5, do you sit Clark and Adams next week vs ATL? That would give them 3 more weeks to fully recover.

I think they need to be 90% (minimum) to play next week. I wonder how much of Kenny's partial practice participation was legit and how much it was to give the Saints something to prepare for that they could have ignored.

Collinsworth later expanded on that notion, saying that the Packers are strong in the secondary and edge rushers, but not so much at inside linebacking

Yeah, and that's been the case since 1992 when Favray "arrived". IF you take a moment out to think about it - it makes sense from a team- building POV

When you have a HOF QB as the Packers have since 1992, it means that cornerbacks and quarterbacks are the key components in winning the game. Pass defenders and pass rushers are the positions that have the most value when you're playing that style of football. Joe Whitt said as much when he was coaching DBs in Titletown.

"Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt doesn’t think the formula in Green Bay is a complicated one. “I’ve mentioned many times, if the quarterbacks and cornerbacks play well, we win. Ok?” Whitt said on Wednesday. “We have a chance to win Super Bowls if those two groups play well.”

ILBs don't matter as much for that style. If you are a team that dominates in the run game and a tough defense like the Ravens, then an ILB has a greater positional value. (Although we did just watch the Chiefs run the Ravens out of the stadium and the Ravens HOF ILB, Patrick Queen and his 4 tackles were completely irrelevant to the outcome. )

So for the style of football the Packers play with a HOF QB, positional value of an ILB just isn't very high. The other component of having a HOF QB on your team is that he is eating a big chunk of salary cap - and in a zero sum game you have to be very strategic in how you allocate your limited resources. Spending /drafting  cornerbacks and pass rushers will always supersede spending/drafting MLBs.

None of this is new, its been going on for nearly 3 decades and more than 300 wins in Titletown. I'm still hopeful that even the meatiest of the meat-heads will eventually figger it out. I wouldn't bet on it, but I'm hopeful.
