This thread is only for optimistic posts. It's a place for those of us that don't think the season done and over to discuss the positives of this team.

Just a little history: we were 3-3 by week 6 in 2010, losing to 2 crappy teams by very narrow margins.

Here are some positives that I think have I us pointed the right direction:

- We have a semblance of ground game, which will help big time when it's cold. Benson is on pace for 1,000 yards and Green showed some really nice speed. Benson looks so decisive and his legs never stop churning. I'd love for us to get more screens in their with Benson and Green. I'd also love to see some more of the Reverse Wishbone formation McCarthy used to be so fond of when they kept 3 FBs. Put Kuhn and Crabtree in there with Benson and I think we could churn out some solid inside yards.

- Our pass rush is vastly improved, tied for 1st in the NFL in Sacks, which definitely is something that comes in handy late in the year. Worthy and Daniels each have a sack, Perry has 2 sacks, DJ Smith has 2 sacks, and Mike Neal showed some really good things. This defensive line will be scary good next year if everyone commits to the offseason, improves their strength, and refine their technique! Erik Walden looks like he got the message when he lost his job to Perry. His coverage is as good as CM3 and he's not making as many mental mistakes.

- Casey Hayward looked great on that coverage. Reggie Wayne is a veteran and tried to get the young lad to bite on that double move and he stuck with him. Even Shields, for as maligned as he is, has looked way better than he did in 2011. He's sticking his head in their against the run and he's batting down some passes. He's been on the receiving end of some BAD calls when he's actually had great coverage.

- Randall Cobb is so impressive. They need to get the ball in his hands more. James Jones is having a really solid season also. He trucked that CB with the stiff arm on that bubble screen and got another couple yards out of it. We needed him to step up with Jennings out and Nelson blanketed, and he has. I would love to see him lined up as a RB, get a toss, and then pass it. Anyone who watched Kentucky knows this guy can sling it. I remember him when he was at Alcoa High School (which is 35 min. from where I live) and he was a great passer then.

- DJ Smith has 4 batted down passes this season, 2nd most on the team behind Tramon's 8. For a 5'11" ILB he certainly can track the ball well and knock it down.

- Every time we lose, we rebound with a really strong game which we will need vs. Houston.

I'm actually optimistic that they will win Sunday night in Houston provided the Texans win tonight vs. the Jets.

It could be a real trap game for the Texans. If Houston gets upset by N.Y.then I don't think the Packers win.
My optimist take is this: they've got 11 games to right the ship...and there are a lot of teams laughing in October that will be crying in December.

No way I'm giving up on this team. Football is a helluva drug.
My friend bought my tickets to the NO game. Took his boys and they saw Lambeau for the first time. He said it was like the first time he took them to Disneyworld. They woke up at 5am and wanted to go right away to the late game.

Met Chad Clifton and DD's family. Very very happy they were there for that victory.

This. The Packers tend to play better with their backs against the wall. I would be very surprised if it is not a close game next week.
A pessimistic post with "I am optimistic..." doesn't count as optimism. Nice try though! Smiler
I am optimistic the Packers will not return to he days of the 70's and 80's.

I am the optimistic that the Packers will get it figured out but it make take sometime.

I'm optimistic we can sweep the division and get in the playoffs with a lousy record.

I also like our chances against Houston.. In the past, this team has responded well to situations like this. I'm hoping I can get the Pack at +200 or more on the money line.
Being an optimist, you set yourself up to be let down, but if they win you still get to enjoy the win.

Being a kworst, you get to say "I told you so" if they lose, and still celebrate the win.

Pessimist or optimist, at least have a decent point to make. Lets not contribute to the collective stupid.
Games like this are good reminders what can happen in the NFL. I remain confident this entire team will keep learning from games like this and do what it takes to make the playoffs this year.

Really, the reason for all the angst is that the better team lost against the Colts. That is at its heart optimistic.

Good points in the opening post.
10-6 could win the division considering they have 5 of their 6 div games in the last 7 weeks of the season.

2-3 now

@STL - W

Thanks Grave Digger. This thread was much needed. Sick of listening to whiney babies on every damned thread.

It's a bitter 2-3 but 2-3 nonetheless. But this team has shown too many good things to just go down the drain now.

Packers have a good opportunity this week on national television.
I still think this team can win 11 games if they can shape up and make a few key changes and and get some injured guys back. Get Raji and Jennings healthy, bench Jeff Saturday and hope that EDS doesn't get pushed backward on every single rushing attempt or key third down passing situation like we see now.
5-4 is plenty workable for down the stretch. A lot of division games yet and we can catch that 2 game lead Chicago and Minny has. I think we can be 6-3 at the bye though. Houston is a good team, but I don't think they're as great as some make them out to be. Our guys should be pissed and ready to rebound. Catching Houston on a short week is nice too.
I love the hair cuts these guys have/have not. Hawk looks explosive with that buzz cut. Walden looked really glowed in the backfield yesterday. That 2 tone kid number 20 is gonna be a player too.

And did anybody else notice MM losing weight?

Just gotta get in the playoffs. 13-3, 11-5, 10-6, 8-8...whatever...

Is this optimistic?

I think so. Considering the past two Champs were Wild Card teams.

They've put them self in a bit of a tight spot to start the season. With the talent they have, they can/will/could make noise in the postseason. First goal at 2-3 should be to make the postseason. Maybe come December they will have righted the ship, some teams will have come to earth and this start doesn't matter.

NOTE: Who was the incognito quoter?
Walden has been really good. It has been a pleasure watching he and CM3 this year.

Tottenham will pull off what those freaking' Jerrys couldn't last year. Beat Chelsea.

Last year I predicted the Pack would lose 3 regular season games - this was documented in a post on this board somewhere - but they only had one. This year I predicted the same thing. However, using the concept of loss averaging, The Packers are allowed to more losses this season. I am optimistic they will not exceed that.
I was at the game in Indy, and I have to say, I've had colonoscopies that were more enjoyable than that experience....

That said, there is upside here. Talent is one thing we have in our favor, but focus is, IMHO, what has been missing from this year's team. We are not good enough to "just show up" (although I wonder if any team in the NFL is), but we are plenty good when we bring our A-game mentally. I have yet to see this so far in 2012. Focus on execution, toughen up mentally, and this team can turn things around fairly quickly and become a scary opponent again.

I would much rather have us fall down now than in December/January. There is time to get things back on track

I'd say they brought their A-game against the Bears, at least on defense. That's probably the closest thing to a good solid performance if any this year to date.
