Just wondering if any of you know of teams that are stacked at OL, whose cuts we might be interested in.

And a related question.  Once teams develop a practice squad, are those PS players always fair game to be signed by other teams?  What are the rules on that?

thanks.  Just asking because I truly think we could have a very good ground game this year if we have a better line.  Between Lacy, DuJuan Harris, and (I'm hoping) Starks, I think we have strong weapons.  Franklin has a been a little disappointing, but I could see him as a screen pass guy or running a reverse, maybe?

HELP! I’m being held against my will. I only have a few seconds befor

Starks is as good as gone. He's dropped to 5th on the depth chart having seen next to no action last night..writing is clearly on the wall. They are done with him.

In order to create a practice squad, each NFL team 1st has to cut them before bringing them back. That's what makes things dicey for a team like GB and a player like Boyd who has a lot of upside but could be snatched up by another team. Once they make the PS squad, players can refuse offers from other teams to join. I believe that was Boykin ?? who refused to join the Queens.

As for "stacked" teams on the OL, I think that's a pipe dream. Very few if any teams have quality OL starting line followed by quality back up OL. It just doesn't happen.

Right. I don't think enough of those guys exist on the planet & I can't see one team having a plethora of OL. If any team does, you can expect a trade instead of an actual cut of an NFL O-Lineman

The only time quality O-linemen get cut is for salary cap reasons, so I don't think we're going to see too many at this time of the year.  O-linemen that get cut at this point may be marginally better than what we currently have, but O-linemen, almost more than any other position need familiarity with their teammates to be effective.  It's one of the main reasons both Bulaga and Sitton got moved to the left side.  They are familiar with each others' tendencies and work well together.  It's difficult to just plug someone in and expect them to play well.

I should take the time to look up the rules regarding PS signings and the like, but...

I seem to recall if a team wants to sign a PS player from another team, it has to be to their active roster. Probably the single biggest factor that keeps PS signings to a minimum.

I'm not sure how the 'right of refusal' works. In recent seasons, Green Bay has signed PS players who have received offers from other teams to the active roster to keep them, and I think they may have increased the salary of a PS player to keep him on our PS.

If they're lucky, the Packers might be able to find a competent backup at one position. Don't expect anything more than that. However, I'm not too concerned about the performance of the OL without Rodgers in there last night. The Seahawks knew that Harrell is an awful QB, and they were able to take chances selling out on the run that they wouldn't have dreamed of attempting with Rodgers.

Good thread RW/Phil. Losing Tretter was a big loss. Since Lang and Sitton have been saddled with saturday and eds, they've been godawful. Maybe they're nicked up like last year. Who knows. Thank goodness Backteria and Barclay seem to be panning out.

Jets aren't loaded but Jason Smith is back with them.  He was the #2 overall pick (Rams) a few years ago.  Traded last year to the Jets.  Jets cut him in February and the Saints picked him up.  Saints just cut him loose and the Jets grabbed him again.

Now that's a REAL bust!!

McCarthy going from press conference to Ted Thompson's office. Thompson watching Derek Sherrod work out as we Tweet.

McCarhy on Sherrod: Getting better. Getting close. Impressed with progress he has made.
