I don't think you can mandate people get the flu shot. I never have and I never will. MM did speak to that this week but about the most he said is that they have hand sanitizer all over the place. I haven't had a cold or flu symptom since I got my case of ruby red grapefruit a couple weeks ago. So I'd encourage the team to start drinking ruby red grapefruit and vodka for the duration of the playoffs! Smiler

I think the players should be encouraged to get a flu vaccine. Flu is rampant at this time of the year and locker rooms/training facilities are prime places for germs to be passed along.

Considering that there are only 16 games a year, being out with the flu for a game is probably equivalent to being out of work 3 weeks, for one of us.

People contract and develop hundreds of different strains of viruses and infections that are not true Influenza and therefore the "flu shot" won't do jack crap to prevent it.

There are literally hundreds of viruses that cause the cold, upper respiratory infections, and other illnesses that people contract.

The 2012 Flu Shot covers 4 strains. That's it. Get anything else, Flu shot won't help you.

We also have to understand many of these players have kids under 10 years old. Ask any parent how healthy they are when they have little kids. They're walking germ farms ....especially this time of year.
FYI....I've never had a flu shot in my life & I haven't contracted the flu.

Flu shots don't do jack..... period. Eat right & don't drink alcohol which lowers your immune system. Pretty simple "cure" for the flu.

Plus the players have access to the best doctors around. A quick IV will put the fluids they need back into their bodies.

Rub some dirt on it...Get your ass back out there & stop whining

the predominate strain that's circulating right now is known as an H3N2 strain.

And the last time that that kind of a strain was the predominate strain was back in the 2003-2004 flu season, which turned out to be a particularly nasty year.

CONAN: And the vaccine, though, is a good match.

STEIN: Yeah, that's the good news. As opposed to that year, 2003-2004, when they didn't have a good match, this year they do have a good match. The vaccine that's out there should protect most people from the predominate strain that's circulating. continue
Tons of information past the click.

Where the heck did you guys get your medical degree? Out of a box of cracker jacks?!?

If you're under 65 you may get sick, probably won't kill you. But if you are contageous and spread it to someone >65 or immune compromised -- You could kill them.

3,000 or more people die each year from the flu.

Conspiracy. They're not really dead.

I live with 2 asthmatics. I get my shot every year even though I haven't had the flu in 3 decades. Some education folks.

This I agree with. Older folks' immune system isn't as strong & they are vulnerable. In some cases very vulnerable causing death.

I forgot we have a bunch of drinkers on this site, much like myself.

I drink Tequila & Scotch. Marinated a Tri-tip beef roast tonight with Bourbon & Brown Sugar. No Flu for me
we never get flu shots yet never get the flu. but whole family is relatively healthy.

My Mom got the shot then got sick (flu-like) symptoms afterwards. Ive known people who get the shot and still get sick later on, so no one knows exactly how any one particular person will fare. keeping the immune system up doesnt hurt either.
that shot is by no means a magic preventive cure-all with zero risk of side effects.

Yes indeed. However, you know Geaux-Packers that many, many people who come down with viruses, URI's, colds etc will say "I have the flu" or "I got a flu bug" when they have no such thing.

In true influenza you are extremely ill and I see otherwise healthy patients <65 hospitalized or at least spending several hours in the ED getting IV fluids and rehydrated.

Even if you gave every player a flu vac tonight, it would take 2 weeks to develop resistence to the currently circulating strains out there.

Having lived in Northern CA for 38 years I miss Tri-Tip. A lot. Tough to find in WI. There's a butcher at a local grocery store that cuts me a good hanger steak when I stop by and ask for one. But marinated tri-tip is truly missed.

I haven't had a flu shot in 20 years. Haven't had the flu in 25. First year in I don't know how long I haven't come down with anything. Ruby Red and Vodka tonight based on Tdogs earlier post.

Never had the flu? Wow! You are lucky and blessed. I'll take the flu shot any day before I give up beer. Cool

Thank you, Geaux! It seems that the arm chair GM's have now graduated into certified card-carrying arm chair doctors.

And Irish whiskey, gin, bourbon, Guinness, Bailey's, as well as various other beers (brewed by you and others).
