Love played a little too loose/reckless... almost like he didn't care. The talent is there, just don't see it consistently.

It looks to me like he is imitating Rodgers "cool" on-field demeanor.  So he's nice and calm while throwing interceptions.

Consistency was the knock on him coming out of college right? Great one play, bad INT the next? He needs a lot more reps to know for sure if he can work through that or not.

Pretty sure Gutey would prefer to acknowledge a mistake than throw upwards of $20 million dollars away.

I think Gute already somewhat acknowledged this when he gave Rodgers another contract.  If Love looked like Joe Burrow these last few years, he would have traded Rodgers instead.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Love pick, you have to think about the future as GM, not just the present and nobody knew if Rodgers was gonna fall off a cliff or not (like many older QB's do).  Love was also a raw talent that you'd expect to sit for a couple years to mature into.

The problem is he still looks like a raw talent.  Beyond just the footwork or off target throws, it's the fact that he always feels the need to throw the ball, even when being chased out of the pocket, which many times end up being his worst decisions.  It's like he can't take a sack or throw the ball away, ever.

I like the kid, he has his head on straight and seems like a good guy but I also expect a lot more from him in year 3.  His release and velocity are much improved, but he certainly doesn't have that "it" that makes you think he'll be anything more than a middling QB at this point.

If there's not much improvement in the next 2 practice games what do you do with Err Jordan (Heir Jordan?) ?

I think we’re keep him until the end of the year, release him and get both a veteran backup and draft a QB high if they think one is worth it.  AR’s not going to be here forever.

I view the AR extension as simply an admission by Gutey that Love hasn't developed as quickly as the organization hoped and anticipated and the option will be the big tell.

Love needs to play better and I was disappointed in his performance against SF but he didn't play nearly as bad as many are claiming. Think some who disliked the pick from the very beginning are just attempting to validate their opinion.

i mean...in retrospect, he has been cheap backup qb $...you can pay a backup lots of $; so there's that...I feel bad that he has not shown 'IT' but - sometimes it just is what it is...I am hoping that he plays at least 3 qtrs in the next 2 games, but I am puzzled by mlf showcasing etling?  who cares about what that guy does, your focus should be 10...he hasn't had time - PLAY HIM THEN...I don't get it.

Using Etling is the same as Love playing and not Rodgers.   If Love gets seriously injured in the 4th quarter of a pre-season game then you are really screwed.   Get Love his reps and learning experience and then get him the hell out.

10 is going to have to show a hell of a lot more in the next two games, plus some decent action in mop-up duty this season, and more solid performances in pre-season next year to warrant that 5th year option IMO.

They need to decide on the 5th year option before next year. So he only has the next two games to really prove it (baring an injury to AR).

I mean are they screwed? If ar gets hurt we are screwed anyways. Just play the guy he could get hurt crossing the street

Could have drafted a scrub in the 6th to get the same production at backup QB and used the 1 on someone who can contribute.

It was a shit pick.   Up there with Bustin Harrel.

I will take Jordan Love, as our back up QB, over any back up QB, from any team, in the NFC North. I think Love will be fine. All the haters want to see him gone, and why is that? He played one game, last season, and got the starts in preseason games, only. I keep saying Love looks like Rodgers did, in his first three seasons, behind Favre. One could say that Love more resembled Favre, in the 49ers preseason game, with those 3 INTs, than he did Aaron Rodgers, even though two of those INTs should have been caught by his receivers. Cut the guy some slack. He's our future QB, in Green Bay. BTW, the same people wanting Love gone are also crying that we traded Davante away, even though Davante wanted that trade.

I am pretty sure 90% of this board does not want 10 to fail.  We need to start seeing some smarter and consistent play.  he cannot turn the ball over, no matter who he is - he will not be a qb in the NFL...not for long for QB's that turn the ball over.  His brain farts have improved, but they are still there, this 'receiver ran the wrong route' doesn't fly when you lose...

As much as I hope you are wrong, it is starting to look like what you wrote may be the case. I haven't given up on him yet but I certainly have my doubts that he will even be a decent backup.

The propensity for poor decision making leading to turnovers was his biggest weakness coming out of college. It's probably what lead him from being mentioned as a high first-round pick in some mock drafts before his last season in college to falling to the bottom of the 1st. He has yet to show the level of improvement in that weakness that he needs to be a starter for the Packers after Rodgers.

The Packers are clearly setting up their long-term strategy to be a run-dominant team that wins with their defense. While avoiding turnovers is critical no matter what, if your team-building strategy is that (as opposed to a quick-strike downfield passing game), it's even more important to keep turnovers to a minimum.

Love has all the physical tools to be a solid NFL QB. He's better than Hundley. If he had been a 3rd round pick, he'd be looked at differently. But because the Packers used their 1st and 4th round picks on him in a draft that preceded two seasons in which they were strong contenders but fell short of a Super Bowl both times, you can't help but watch him without thinking about what the Packers could have had instead. It's not his fault, but it is what it is.

Difficult to see how it was a bad pick given where the Packers had Love on their board (safe to assume high) and the age of the QB. Evaluation may ultimately be proven incorrect (still premature), but it's the hardest position to draft and it's always a roll of the dice.

People just need to relax and let Love play the rest of the preseason out.

Time will tell but at this point (and yes it's still too early for a final evaluation) he's not trending in the right direction. Of course that can change and hopefully it does!

Yep, deadline will be early May for the 5th year option so the Packers will likely have to make their decision not long after this season ends.

If Rodgers commits to another season and the Packers don't see what they want to see from Love this year it will be tough to commit to that 5th year.

If Rodgers retires after this year then it's likely they pick up that 5th year and draft another QB in 2023 much like they did with Brian Brohm in 2008.
