From Jason Wilde
Could the #Packers be in danger of a brain drain in their personnel department? Three longtime, trusted scouts have left in the last 28 months: John Schneider in Jan. 2010 to become Seattle's GM; Reggie McKenzie in Jan. 2012 to become Oakland's GM; and now college scout Shaun Herock, who'll join McKenzie in Oakland. Schneider and McKenzie were GM Ted Thompson's directors of football operations and have not been replaced, and Schneider, McKenzie and Herock all worked with Thompson under Ron Wolf.

As long as Thompson is there and he can keep promoting Eliot so he wants to stay they should be fine.

Sucks to be on top. yes, I meant to type that

Dorsey has been a candidate for some GM jobs recently. Can't see him staying for a long time unless he really wants to.

At what point does it cease to be the "Ron Wolf Tree" and become the "Ted Thompson Tree"? I don't remember Schneider and McKenzie being serious contenders for GM jobs before Thompson arrived even though both had worked with Wolf. It's like how people used to refer to Bill Belichick and his subordinates as being from the Bill Parcells coaching tree, now they're from the Bill Belichick coaching tree.

And in that same vein, when is the media going to realize it has been Belichick running the show in New England all along making everyone else seem better? Scott Pioli, who was once thought to be the real brains in New England, has done nothing in Kansas City. I don't see any other Belichick assistants or executives finding success elsewhere in the NFL without Billy B. Thomas Dimitroff has done alright, but his last few Atlanta teams have had some big names making them seem better than they are.

Nothing a new battery can't fix.

But seriously, IMO he seems like a guy who doesn't let things get emotional...which I feel is the biggest obstacle to overcome in avoiding burnout.

Also, what else would he do? He doesn't seem like a guy who wants a Harlen-like position. I guess maybe he may want a new challenge someday or maybe move "home" (he is from Texas, correct?). I don't know, it just seems like he is in a position that couldn't fit him any better.

EDIT: I see this is an old thread rebooted. Sorry for reusing a quip so soon!

or does Carroll just yank his chain way too hard?

Carroll has more pull than Schneider. I still don't understand why Schneider took the job if he doesn't have the final say so as GM.

Reggie McKenize turned down numerous GM jobs because they didn't want to give him control. Now the Raiders gave him full control & BLAM, Reggie pulls all the strings.
Boris: You hit the nail in the head regarding Carroll. Should he succeed you can rest assured Petey will ensure all of America knows this was his team, his way, if he falls on his butt (which I root for he will soon be gone) he has this habit of becuase he says t it must be true. He still carries on about what a warrior Giacomini has turned into. He couldn't passblock in GB and he didn't look like he could pass block in Seattle but Petey assuures us he is the second coming of Forrest Gregg so I'll have to watch a little close.

I also would not be surprised to see TT retire if GB wins another SuperBowl. He is such a different guy that the Glory Gravy doesn't fatten his ego nor fill a void and I just believe another ring in the next season or two will complete the cvlce for him and he will go off to other challenges.
