Packers 2013 cap numbers

Crosby $3.15 million cap # for 2013. 12th most on the team. More than 1st round picks Bulaga or Sherrod. More than starting guard TJ Lang on his second contract.

(actual cap savings this year for Crosby would be $1.35 million.)
Looking at the 90 second video with Jolly it is obvious prison food still has a lot of carbs, but he still has the power and tchnique, his hands are always moving . It will be interesting to see him in August after 4 weeks of camp!

Now we know why DuJuan Harris hasn't been practicing -- from his twitter account a few minutes ago:

DuJuan Harris ‏@Ol_sLy_Foxx: Thank God for team physicals!!

‏@Ol_sLy_Foxx: EVERYTHING IS FINE, dr.s found a fist sized cyst on my lung next to my heart. Shows the importance of getting routine check-ups, GET YOURS!

@Ol_sLy_Foxx: It's a #blessing!!! Should be 110% very soon and back to work. Thanks for the prayers and keeping me lifted!!! MUCH LOVE

@TyDunne: McCarthy on Harris: DuJuan will not be available for remainder of off-season program. ...Confident that he'll be ready for training camp.

Here's a pic Harris posted as well.

is there a doctor in the house? If so, is it realistic to think he'll be ready that soon? Sounds a little more serious than that to me, but I'm not a doctor. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Wednesday minicamp practice highlights
packers.com

by Mike Spofford 06-05-13

A few notes from Wednesday’s minicamp practice, which for the second straight day was held inside the Don Hutson Center due to wet weather.

–LB Brad Jones did not practice, which moved LB Jamari Lattimore up to the No. 1 defense, paired alongside A.J. Hawk.

–WR Charles Johnson did not practice after practicing on Tuesday.

–Players sitting out both days of practices this week included WR Jarrett Boykin, WR Kevin Dorsey, RB DuJuan Harris, S Sean Richardson, CB Davon House, LB Dezman Moses, LB Desmond Bishop, T JC Tretter, T Derek Sherrod, DT Ryan Pickett, DE Josh Boyd and DE Jerel Worthy.

–QB Aaron Rodgers was really on his game during an extended red-zone period. In one series of plays, he hit TE Jermichael Finley over the middle near the goal line as Finley slightly collided with S David Fulton, connected on a lob pass to TE D.J. Williams near the end-zone sideline, and then scrambled a little to his left before firing a 25-yard strike off his back foot to WR Randall Cobb at the front pylon.

–The defense nearly stopped Rodgers’ hot streak moments later when AJ Hawk deflected a pass into the end zone intended for WR Jeremy Ross on a crossing route. CB Sam Shields dove to try for the interception off the deflection, but the ball barely grazed the ground as Shields’ corraled it and the pass was ruled incomplete, much to the chagrin of the defensive players.continue

Packers style is to throw 'punches' and beat you bad
packers.com

by Vic Ketchman on 06-05-13

Energy levels are peaking as summer nears. A Packers defense brimming with youth is also giving Capers a youthful glow, as he speaks enthusiastically of the young talent on his defense.

“We’ve got a group of big guys and a group of not-so-big athletic guys. It’ll be interesting to see how that combination works out,” Capers said. “A young guy like Datone Jones … one of the things about him that’s appealing is you can see he has a lot of athletic ability for a guy his size.”

Wednesday, Datone Jones nearly intercepted a pass, as he dropped into coverage from his defensive end position. Was that Capers’ famed zone-blitz Jones was executing? Yes, it was.

“Our No. 1 goal is always going to be to lead the league in scoring defense. We’ve got to create more fumbles,” he said.

Mike McCarthy's Wednesday Minicamp Press Conference: Reading Between the Lines
acmepackingcompany.com

Coach McCarthy had some interesting comments after Wednesday's practice, and may have shed some light on who might be winning some position battles so far. Here's what he said, and what I deciphered from it.

On Randall Cobb:
We look for him to be one of our primary focuses on offense, especially in the passing game.

His special teams role is up to his teammates. We hope someone else can push him and eventually take his place there. Field position is important, and we are a different team with Randall as a returner.

On Graham Harrell:
It’s important to go through QB school when you are developing as a young quarterback. He’s done a very good job in the strength and conditioning aspect this off-season. He’s put in the extra work and it’s noticeable to everyone.

There are some things with his footwork and mechanics that he still needs to work on. At the end of the day, he has to come out and perform.

On the running game:
At the end of the day, it’s the offense’s responsibility to score points. That’s how you put together the game plan. Running the football helps the defense prepare for the other team, and it helps the offense during games to run the clock and keep the offense moving.

There’s two schools of thought: Playing keep away, playing the field position game, and hoping you don’t get beat or trying to score as many points as possible. I like to play fast and throw as many punches as I can.

On Don Barclay:
Don did a good job last year, and is improving this year. It’s important that we give him an opportunity for a starting job. He deserves it in my opinion. He can play right tackle, or right guard. He’s a very tough, smart, versatile player.

On Johnny Jolly:
Johnny Jolly looked good in short yardage and goal line. We’ll evaluate him more during training camp. We’ve had some conversation on where we will have him train during the off-season.continue

Packers want Mason Crosby 'to compete'
espn.go.com

by Kevin Seifert 06-15-13

"I want him to compete," coach Mike McCarthy said. "There's no doubt about it. Last year's performance definitely warrants competition. ... Let's be honest. Mason has to perform at a whole other level than he did last year. I believe he will. But this is what he needs. He needs competition just like all of us. Competition brings out the best of us, and I'm looking for him to make the most of it."

We've discussed the Packers' commitment to Crosby a number of times. To be fair, his high number of 50-plus yard attempts, along with the conditions at Lambeau Field, necessitate an adjusted view of his performance. Still, Crosby's 63.6 conversion rate in 2012 was the NFL's worst (for place-kickers with at least 20 attempts) in eight seasons. The Packers couldn't let that number go totally unaddressed, even if they have no interest in parting ways with him.

"I'm not thinking about last season anymore unless it comes up in these kinds of [media] settings," Crosby said. "I'm drawing on positives and I'm focusing on what is ahead. ... I've evaluated last season and moved on."continue

Cyst removed, a silver lining for Packers' DuJuan Harris
jsonline.com

by Tyler Dunne on 06-05-13

For DuJuan Harris, there's one significant silver lining in having a cyst on his lung removed.

He's able to breathe like he's never breathed before.

"It was actually pressing against his lung," said Harris' agent Dave Lee. "Now his lungs are open to breathe all the way again -- at 100% again. He should be able to get more oxygen in his body and have more endurance and be able to do more as a football player now."

Harris has dealt with the cyst on his lung his entire life. The cyst has always affected the running back without Harris ever knowing why.

"He didn't know about it," Lee said. "He said that as a kid, he'd feel pressure on his chest in the same area but he'd always chalk it up to indigestion or something like that. So it's a blessing in disguise and it actually may make him, physically, a better player.

"He'll get more oxygen into his body and be able to make more big plays."

Saw the little vid snippet from JSO blog on Finley. Dude is moving like a blur, especially for a guy his size. I know shorts and no defender can do that for a guy but still. Watch Quarless in the same drill and there is an obvious difference in who is more athletic - particularly how they drop their hips and turn up field after the catch.

Cyst on lung knocks DuJuan Harris down, but not out
foxsportswisconsin.com

by Paul Imig 06-05-13

"The running joke we had yesterday in the recovery room was that he thinks he can be on the field for three or four more plays now before getting winded," Harris' agent, Dave Lee said.

Doctors made a one-inch incision in Harris' chest during the operation. The recovery time for DuJuan Harris, according to Harris' agent, Dave Lee, is two weeks. continue

Classic skit I completely forgot about. A coincidental bit was the claymation dueling bajos of "Red and Blue" from some childhood show (Cosby or LeVarr Burton).

Eight in the Box: Rookie eye-catchers
espn.go.com

by Kevin Seifert 06-07-13

Green Bay Packers: Micah Hyde is a cornerback drafted in the fifth round, one who is competing against a deep group just to make the roster. I have no idea how things will turn out once the team gets to full pads in training camp, but he caught my eye this week with tight coverage on several passes. On one in particular, Hyde stayed close with receiver James Jones on a red zone pass into the corner of the end zone. Jones led NFL receivers with 14 touchdown receptions last season, but Hyde managed to strip the ball from his hands before he got both feet down. Putting a play like that on tape is important. continue
