Love threw 6 incompletions. Do you expect him to go 26-26 instead of 20-26?

But half of his completions were garbage throws from a garbage qb. He's eight games in. He should be lacing them by now with the precision of Montana, the fastball of Elway, the command of Brady. That 20 points was in spite of Love, and especially the two scores in the 4th qtr. Nothing less than 25-26 400 5 tds and negative 3 ints will do going forward.

Nice to see Jones get going.

Love made a few nice throws.  The read to Musgrave was great.

Valentine looks like he can play football.

Alexander had a great game.

The rookie safety made a few plays.

Watson has a long ways to go.

Doubs made a great play coming back to attack a pass and make the reception.

Bummer that Clark got injured.  Any word on him?

It was the Rams.  The next several weeks are going to be tough.

Good to know 20 points is the standard for excellence now.   Does that make Stroud Jesus Christ on earth playing football for giggles?

I thought this was 10's best throw of the game. Planted the feet and screamed it in to 87

It's in there, he just needs to show it with a lot more consistency. The throw after to Watson was good, too. Just can't keep a career going without it showing up on more than a glimpse. It's about him realizing and putting every ounce of effort into being the QB on that series every series.

It has to be maddening for the coaches because he can do it if he wants to. It's all about his legs. They need a shock collar on him for every time he doesn't plant. It's like he plays the game with only the top half of his body 90% of the time. He's a conundrum of a QB. Every measurable is there. He just has to want to be more than he is right now.

We winned!

Ended 1st 1/2 TD drought.

D didn't get schooled by back-up QB, for once.

33 back to full time status and it shows.

Trading Douglas had positive effect on D, maybe on whole team.

Backups at CB, S and ILB  played well too.

Love taking check downs and moving the chains.

Love still throwing to guys not spots and deep ball is off.

Self-inflicted wounds would cost us against a better team.

Clark, Watson + Nijman injuries.

Does the standard include setting up at midfield followed by a first down complete to Wicks and a fumble? And maybe Jones coughing it up to the Rams on another promising drive? I want to understand what we are striving for. Surely those turnovers must have helped the young and struggling signal caller, yeah?

+ Defense played best game of the year

+ Love was decent today.  String a few games together like this and we’ll feel better about him, but honestly this was the first time I felt he was a positive since 4th Quarter of week 3 vs Saints.

+ O-Line was pretty good today.  Best game they’ve played since Atlanta.

- just an incredibly sloppy first half by the offense

- C Watson is talented but frustrating.  I’ll be fair and say that Love hasn’t thrown him many good balls this year, but his hands look like they’re even worse than last year so far.

- I don’t think Mark Rypien has any other kids playing QB in the NFL so we may not face a worse NFL QB the rest of the year than we did today.  We definitely caught a break not playing a healthy Stafford.

Perhaps a negative from Love watching Rodgers get away with it for 3 years.

That throw to Doubs was the best throw of the game by either QB. It wasn't only that Love decided to make that throw, it was how fast and accurate it was thrown. In addition, Doubs just snagged it. He has strong, sure hands. I do not have confidence that Watson catches that ball. Reed, maybe. Wicks, maybe, maybe not.

Another excellent play was by Valentine when he reached over and around the WR to knock the ball away without an interference call. That was a big-time play.

You summed up my frustrations with Love perfectly.  His mechanics are just so inconsistent.  Often throws a little off balance like Favre and Rodgers but he can’t get away with it like they could as they had freakish Hall Of Fame level arm talent.

At least today, his accuracy did look better than it has in a month or more.  Let’s hope it’s the start of maybe tightening up the throwing mechanics a bit.

They left a lot of points on the field. A missed FG , 2 offside penalties negating 1st downs and a Wicks fumble all in Rams territory, a Jones fumble recovered at the Packer 45. There were still plenty of mistakes that cost the Packers points.

Watson is a cheetah. I don't think we should expect him to develop into a Sterling Sharpe. He's rarely going to be the go to option on a gotta have it third down. His jump catch today was about the best clutch he can offer. But his speed is a weapon with an accurate QB. Put him on the Bengals and he's a massive problem.

Doubs is the 3rd down guy now, Reed will get there with his will and Wicks can eventually be that guy too. Watson is a play action threat on 2nd and short. He's also an end around guy.  His speed is going to open up things for Reed or Musgrave. It takes time to coordinate all these young guys to the top of their abilities. Watson can make problems for the defense like few people in the NFL, but he's always going to be more of a finesse guy.

One of the problems with drafting high character players is we focus too much on the Love draft pick keeping us from #14 and not enough on 33's gut wrenching fumbles. It's a fatal flaw in the most loveable of RBs and he has it all over his big games. He's dynamic but wow does he cough it up at the worst times. I have to think a bell cow is on the top of the wish list for the offseason.

I agree. I never even viewed Jones as a bell cow, more of 3rd down RB but better than just a pass catcher out of the backfield.14-18 touches a game would be good for him and I really think Dillon was drafted to be that smash mouth #1 RB. But that hasn't worked so well. I really would like to see Wilson get some meaningful carries.

This team is going nowhere this season. Everyone on offense is playing poorly so how much worse can it get if we audition a few guys for next season? The Packers would be a lot better off if they answered these questions this year than next season when Dillon is almost assuredly gone. Dillon likes the GB area so much he might take a team friendly contract, if offered, which would be OK if he's #3 on the depth chart.

I don't know how today qualified as a "big game," but I agree with what you said about Jones' fumbles. The offense gets something going, Jones gets a really nice run, and out comes the ball. He's not a classic fumbler, but he can be a momentum killer. I hope it's not his last year in GB, but a No. 1 guy doesn't fumble in big moments.

I don't think Watson will ever be a WR worthy of where he was picked. He looks like a one trick pony short on WR instincts who plays small. There might be a reason why he doesn't aggressively go after contested passes. <Watson was taken to the locker room with a chest injury, back injury and concussion evaluation in the fourth quarter.>>

He is no Davante Adams. It takes focus and dedication to be great in the NFL. I think Watson has more physical talent but he lacks Davante’s drive.

@PackerRick posted:

Watson is bigger and faster but he'll never run routes, get off the press coverage, or compete for the 50-50 balls like Adams does.

NEVER?  It’s his 2nd year.  Do we forget the struggles Adams went thru?  I’m not comparing him to Adams at all - but I’ll give him some time to get experience and develop his body before pronouncing his final verdict!
