To be fair he was injured to start year 1, so he was already behind and then they changed schemes the following year. I’m letting him off the hook for playing poorly, but I do give him the benefit of the doubt that his entry in the league has been far from ideal. Shouldn’t be any excuses this year...he’s in year 3 of an NFL S&C program, he’s in year 2 of a scheme that plays to his strengths, and there’s a starting spot up for grabs with Daniels gone (to an extent). Kenny Clark has 4.5 sacks in his second year, Adams need to at least match that.

Déjà Vu all over again.

Guy named Adams does not impress some in his 1st two seasons with the GBP, 1 of which was limited due to injury. Oh, and Henry is critical of that player.

Does Montravius follow the path of that other Adams guy?

The other night was a Auburn game on college classics.  Adams was playing in what I think was his sophomore year.  So I focused on him.  He was just a little late to be able to make a play most of the time.  On running plays he seemed to be caught of guard and was more easily walled off.  But in all of that he showed that he could get past the OL on some occasions and his pursuit allowed him to be in on a few plays.   Fast forward to his senior year, and he was very decisive and disruptive.  I think that will be a pattern for his pro development.  But he has to play to realize it.

I will personally own up to that...BUT...we will never know if Janice would have been better given the chance.

He was not coverable in the playoff game vs Cards...just sayin.

I think I argued during that year that they should sit him down that year because it looked like he was playing hurt. He was by some metrics the worst receiver in football in 2015 which didn't make sense because he looked very promising the previous year.

The problem was that they ran out of receivers that year and they basically were running Davante out there when he should have sat for a few weeks to recover from the ankle injury. Jordy tore his ACL in the preseason, Cobb was OK but dinged up all year, a way over-the-hill James Jones was their best WR, and Montgomery got hurt mid-season. The fact that many DL could run with our starting TE (RichRod) didn't help either.

In terms of Janis, if he couldn't even get on the field during that year when the Packers may have had the worst peforming WR core in football tells you a lot. He played 56 game for the Packers. You can find snap counts played on offense at the following site.

Jeff Janis played 429 regular season snaps at WR for Green Bay and another couple dozen in the playoffs (I didn't look up playoff snaps), so probably around 450 total plays at WR.

In this ~450 career snaps, he caught 24 passes for 345 yards. 2 catches for 101 yards happened in a 3 snap sequence where he caught two Hail Mary passes in the Cards playoff game. In his other roughly 450 snaps, he had 22 catches for 244 yards. He had more than enough chances. Do some people think he was constantly wide open and Rodgers just didn't like him enough to throw to him?

See what I mean? When they threw to him...which was only when they HAD to...he delivered in Spades.

"Do some people think he was constantly wide open and Rodgers just didn't like him enough to throw to him? "

Yes and no.

He most probably was not trustworthy or open within the confines of MM GD route tree.

But a good coach could have used his speed and athleticism to make the best of what you have....you know...to win games and stuff.

An example would be the way Atlanta uses Julio at the goal line getting isolation out of a bunch with motion...and all he does is drag across the field and goes and gets it because you can't cover him in that when done right....speed and athleticism kills....or they adjust and it opens up something else which is still taking it to the other team.

Janice "maybe" could have been special with the right coach...we will never know.

The playoff performance was not a coincidence. You act on "flashes"

Janis is a hot free agent that has been weighing his options since August of last year. It must be nice to be so picky about where he goes next, Cleveland just wasn’t giving him the opportunities he deserved either.

Dainty ankles.

At least the Packers didn't make the same "ankles" mistake that the Bucks did.

Before Montravius Adams' first injury his rookie year in training camp, a lot of veteran players were stunned by how quick he was off the ball and his ability to break through. Just thinking we may see that now. Hopefully. I like the guy. Last season was a cluster****. He should show his worth this season, and I think he's going to have a big year. Rookies rarely show well, as their bodies are generally not NFL ready. Takes a couple of years, especially for OL and DL. Looking forward to seeing what he does.

Janis is exactly where a guy with his talent should be. He's selling tires. There is no lost treasure here. He was a really good gunner on special teams but that only gets you so far.

Moot point now...he aint a spring chicky no more.

His best years were wasted. We will never know because the opportunity wasn't presented.

We do know one thing...against the best NFL competition in an NFL playoff game...when there were no other options...despite double and triple teams...the kid performed. He threw the whole team on his back and got it done...alone.

That's generational talent right there...but we will never know.

^^^ That was Daniels production after about week 7 his last couple seasons. Followed by getting hurt, then missing games. That he's already this unnoticed and making nearly 10 mil a year, looking like a bust signing for the Lions.

I was pretty shocked by the move but now it makes sense.  Like they say, better to get rid of a guy a year too early than a year too late.  The Smith Bros. have huge cap numbers next year and the 2019 cap savings on cutting Daniels rolls into next year.

Daniels was good for a few years.  He's not any longer... and I'm sure he was quickly pegged as a blowhard by his teammates in GB before he was cut.  You can talk as long as you produce.

thanks Gute!   typical MD season of the last couple years - play for a bit, get hurt

Two of the Lions’ most important defensive players, cornerback Darius Slay and defensive tackle Mike Daniels, were injured in Sunday’s win at Philadelphia. It’s unclear whether they can play on Sunday against Kansas City.

We’ll see,” Slay said when asked if he thinks his injured hamstring will be healthy enough for him to play against the Chiefs.

Daniels suffered a serious foot injury last year with the Packers, and his foot was in a protective boot after Sunday’s game. There’s no word on whether he’ll be ready to go.
