Was #1 in the NFL going into this game giving up just 344 yards (avg 86 yards per game).

Today? 47 yards allowed with Ray Rice avging 2.4 yards a carry. Packers have faced Ray Rice, Reggie Bush, Gore, etc. including some pretty decent OL's.

For a dude who's on the verge of being fired/washed up/figured out, that Don Campers ain't doin' too bad with this Run D.

Packers Run D is legit. I thought they might have a tough time today with Clay being out but they swarm to the ball.

We need a Safety opposite Burnett & Shields needs to stop gambling on some plays

Amazing what the effect of 1 or 2 difference makers is.  Love Jolly.  Burnett influence is unmistakable.  Let's see the consistency of Hawk who is essentially playing for his career this year.  Can't wait for Hayward to come back. Would be cool if some of the PUP folks become available.

It is shocking just how much of an impact that Jolly has on D.  When we last saw him (previous to this year) the Packers had a top 10 D.   Now he's back, and you add Datone Jones, and and Raji and Pickett are steady as usual.   Not to mention Mike Daniels competes like a mother out there.

We also can't ignore the LB play.  CMIII didn't play today and it's basically next guy up.   Mike Neal has turned into a one man wrecking machine, Nick Perry seems to be figuring things out, and Hawk is playing his best ball in a Packers uniform.   Lattimore was awesome today and Mulumba is a load as a situational pass rushing guy.

Can't wait to get Hayward back in the fold!

Even when they didn't get to the QB, a lot of pocket collapsing today. Mike Daniels is one strong SOB. I re-watched some of the game and much of it was played on the Raven's side of the LOS. This team is no longer "soft".

Even more impressive is that the defense played this well without 3 starters: CMIII, Hayward and Jones.  I can't find it right now so could be wrong, but I think Pro Football Focus had these three guys as the defense's highest rated players last year.  Next man up!

Many on here who are Hawk supporters said the problem was not A.J. but the front line. And now we see how true that was. With Jolly back, Daniels with another year of experience and better rotation keeping Raji and Pickett better rested during the game and the addition of Datone Jones has worked wonders. If the front guys occupy the blockers and keep Hawk clean he can play as good or maybe even better than he has so far this season.

It's pretty obvious by now that McMillian isn't capable of being that guy (and I was rooting for him). MD Jennings and Banjo still have some hope, and maybe Richardson will get a shot this year (but I doubt it). Something I'd really like to see is Hyde getting some work at safety once Hayward is back. I'd go crazy if the Packers were able to trade for Jairus Byrd from the Bills. Adding him into the equation with a healthy Hayward and Matthews has #1 defense (in both points and yards) written all over it.

Finley should be going to the hall of fame.

AJ typically looks for someone to block him, if the dine is occupying everyone, he must feel just as well to go after the front of the ball carrier.  Haven't seen that for a couple of years.

So far this season, the Packers rush defense has allowed a 3.4 yards per carry. The is a full yard less than they allowed last year (4.5).

That stat of allowing 3.4 yards per carry is even in greater contrast to last year's playoff debacle in SF, when the 49ers averaged 7.5 ypc.

Mike Daniels and Johnny Jolly.

Not a coincidence.

Jolly nasty: Lineman revives attitude of Packers run defense

How much of this improvement can be attributed to Jolly? He has brought an edge and a nastiness that were sorely needed.

"We're meaner," defensive end Mike Daniels said. "Guys are definitely playing with more of an edge. And Johnny Jolly is a big part of that.

"He has a natural nastiness to him, and that's what he had when he played here. You can definitely see we're playing a lot harder, a lot tougher. We're meaner. We're definitely nastier this year."

that's great and all but why does it take Jolly to get there?

why don't you play "a lot harder, a lot tougher ... meaner ... nastier" on your own all the time?  bugs me a bit but I'm glad they got on track.

Considering what AP has done to the Packers in the last several years, you can bet the D is going to be on a mission to make a statement in this game.  With the MIN QB situation being what it is they can commit more assets to the run D.
