@jasonjwilde
The #Packers have released safety @CharliePeprah. Peprah confirms via text message. Thanks to @JHags56 for the tip.

Peprah started 25 games for the #Packers the past two seasons. He had not practiced this offseason due to a knee injury.

Thanks to Satori for this bit from the OTAs thread earlier this off-season:

here is Bob McGinn's year end review of the Doctor:

M.D. Jennings: "Some were surprised when this rookie free agent from Arkansas State made the team. That didn't include a scout for another NFC team, who said, "I liked the way he moved. I was hoping they'd cut him, but I knew they wouldn't." Though undersized, Jennings is a tough kid with good ball skills and feel in coverage. His speed is above average, too. Despite being the No. 3 safety for the last 15 games, he never had to play from scrimmage." Grade: Incomplete.
Peprah really far exceeded my expectations in 2010. He started out shaky vs. the Redskins, but seemed to get better as the season wore on. To be sure, he wasn't fast and probably was a bit lucky he didn't get burned more than he did. But he did a fine job in 2010, and for that I will salute him.

Now in 2011... he sucked, but you can't take away what he did after being forced into a starter's role in 2010. Perhaps that knee had something to do with his decreased level of play in addition to other factors (no pass rush).
I wonder if Peprah was unable to pass his physical? (Fightphoe93 knee question might be the reason)
I still wonder if we will see a player for player, with the packers getting a safty, trade before the season begins.
Didn't see that coming, at least this early.

Sure, Charlie regressed back to his mean last year but props to the man for two seasons back. Solid contributor and one of the many unsung heroes who helped bring home the Lombardi.
You think part of Peprah's release was a way for Mike to send a very strong message to the Rookies on Day 1? Think those guys might not be a little more motivated tomorrow? ;-)

"McCarthy said on Wednesday at the conclusion of a 20-minute press conference that there’s a “different feel” to training camp this year, and he doesn’t like it. He recalled the rookie class of a year ago being “on pins and needles” for the start of camp, having been locked out of any offseason work, and the “enthusiasm and urgency” those rookies brought to training camp contributed to its overall success.

He’s not sensing those same elements from this year’s rookies – at least not yet – but he’s going to demand them, despite any progress they may have made during offseason workouts."
Now that Peprah is banished, the door opens wider for UFA Sean Richardson to compete for a spot. Levine, McMillian and Jennings will obviously be jockeying for position in camp to get on the field in certain packagages.

Woodson ostensibly will be penciled in as the base safety, with Burnett starting. Not a bad little group there. Richardson has some legit measurables and I'll give Teddy a freebee on his evaluation of McMillian- considering Collin's lineage, he could be a very boom-type difference maker come this year.
Woodson moving to safety probably has more to do with his declining coverage skills and slip in tackling assuredness then anything else.

If Williams can come closer to his '10 form and his injury issue gets resolved (he was essentially playing with one good arm most of last year) and Shields can step up nearer to his '10 form, we'll be okay. Now that Peprah is KIA.

Another wild card is a guy like House who reportedly has had a pretty good offseason with the defense and has wrapped up any nagging injury issues. Could this be his big chance to show he's got the total package? Throw in our rookie from Vandy who is assignment sure and a great tackler and that's a solid group.

It's not a hail mary to presume with our recent D-Line additions (draft and FA signings) our secondary play should increase markedly. More pressure, or lack thereof, is going to make or break our year defensively. Considering how much I trust TT and company, the fact they went all-in on the D-line early and often in the draft, I'll remain optimistic until proven otherwise.
Just goes to show that when you fail your physical as Charley did and the team has young up and comers they are high on you are very expendable,without the injury who knows what would have happened.
Ball washer extraordinaire...

You are next Driver... you are next.

#Packers Peprah went on Tailgate Tour in May. Now he's been cut. Don't think you are safe #donalddriver. You're not.

@GunSlingersHat
#donalddriver talkin alot about being a starter... worried much?
MM comments on Woodson:

"Throughout his career he's been a playmaker. We feel he's a lot more valuable the closer he is to the ball," McCarthy added, explaining that the intent is to "get (Woodson) closer to the ball and more involved."
