Anything to say??
That was a good old-fashioned ass kickin'. The game wasn't anywhere as close as the final score would indicate. The Vikes were in total control from the opening kickoff to the final play and were never threatened with the Pack getting back into it.
Maybe if that first play to Watson would have gone for a TD it might have changed things a little bit, but they owned us at the LOS on both sides of the ball all day.
- Too many to bother with.
+ I think Watson and Doubs are going to be okay but it's going to take some time for them to get comfortable and figure things out. Too bad they're being baptized by fire and forced to learn on the job.
The Vikings aren't very good, but then the Packers looked like crap.
- Injuries to two LBs is the biggest minus, depending of course on the severity.
- AR will never learn how to get plays off fast as he seems to believe wasting TOs are no big deal all too often.
+ AR survived to waste TOs another day.
+ No blocked field goals
+ No blocked punts
Packers coach Matt LaFleur on if he was surprised at his defenseβs performance after a solid training camp: βYa, Iβd say so.β #Packers

+ Special Teams was greatly improved
- Special Teams was our best and most consistent phaseβ¦
Rodgers has to play in the system, even if itβs boring. Throw on time, check the ball down, get the ball to the skill guys and let them do their job. LaFleur needs to stick to the run, pathetic lack of touches for Jones. Heβs your best skill player, he needs 20-30 touches a game.
Said the same thing after Week 1 last year: itβs a long season and this is just 1 of 17.
+ 5 of the 8 Divisional Round playoff teams lost today (could be 6 if the Bucs lose). That's all I'm hanging my hat on.
- 9 set the tone for the whole thing rookie or not doesnβt matter this is the big time ctfb
Aaron Jones had 8 touches. 5 rushes.
Get your head out of your ass, MLF
Saw him being subbed out a couple of times and my amateur body language read wasβ¦he ainβt happy.
It starts and stops with Watson he makes an easy catch itβs 7-7
He fucks it up the rest is whatever
And MLF can fuck off too
This wasnβt a normal offseason lots of new faces yet you treat preseason like a joke well jokes on you pretty boy biatch

I think Doubs and Watson both looked athletic and I am glad they each got multiple opportunities in the passing game. I think and hope they can both get much better as the season progresses provided they get sufficient playing time.
The Watson drop was obviously enormous, but at least there is hope he, and to a lesser extent Doubs, can get chunk yardage as the season wears on. The rest of the receiving group is a bunch of plodders.
STs were not very noticeable and certainly not a disaster. And Mason was fine.
I thought both Dillon and A. Jones ran well.
Bobby T seemed to be running well coming off his ACL
Yosh seemed to hold his own at LT.
Walker looked good before going out with his injury and Jaire was his usual self.

Cobb lacks any burst and needs to be turned into WR 4 or 5 in short order.
Watkins looked like a player approaching 30, who has suffered a number of injuries, and is playing on his 5th team in 7 years.
Newman lacks physicality whether he plays G or T. He is a below average offensive lineman. In time, he might improve to at least average.
Hansen is a below average offensive lineman. I doubt he ever becomes even average.
I know MLF loves his multiple TE sets, but Lewis offers nothing in the passing game and Degaura and Davis both lack physicality and thus offer little in the running game.
Stokes had a rough game and should never be counted on to cover Justin Jefferson. Ever.
OLBs 3 & 4 played a lot and contributed little.
The run D was a major disappointment.
Not a very creative game plan by the coaching staff and not a very inspiring performance by the team.

I'd say it started with the Vikes taking the opening kickoff and marching through our, "improved" D for a TD with barely a whimper of resistance. We were in catch up mode for the entire game and could never get our shit together.
The failed drive to the one and not coming away with any points was also huge. We had a chance to get right back into it and that seemed to suck any momentum we had away for the rest of the game.
I love the man, but I cannot stand #12 body language when we're down. eye rolls, frustration, pouting, disinterested at the end of the bench during a huge defensive stand. This team needs a leader at QB.
I know hes never been that guy but at 50 mil plus your closing window youd love to see him mature into that role.
Plusses
1. Tonyan got to knock the rust off and looked fairly smooth on that repaired knee
2. No killer turnovers. The one turnover was meaningless as it was basically a heave at the end of the half and had no bearing on the game.
3. The rushing game looked good. 15 carries for 94 yards from the backs.
Minuses
1. Obviously, as a group the Packers WRs need to improve dramatically. Cobb and Watkins are only taking reps from the two guys (Doubs and Watson) who need as many snaps as they can get. They aren't winning anything in the playoffs (if they get there) with Cobb and Watkins getting large numbers of reps. They were washed up 3-4 years ago. Lazard isn't going to fix this problem. They need the two rookies to produce because none of their other WRs are going to threaten anyone athletically.
2. Amari Rodgers was adequate as a PR. The fact he can't get on the field on offense with the state of the WR corps right now says a great deal. If that's the case, he was a waste of a 3rd round pick.
3. They allowed a good, but not great, QB to beat them by dropping back and hitting one of the best WRs in football to beat them by running through complete holes in the zone coverage.
Rodgers didn't fumble after hanging on to the ball too long???
- the first play drop was hugeβ¦.but itβs not illegal to regroup and come back from diversity.
FFS it was the first play.

I was doing some other things and not paying super close attention, but it seemed like our run blocking started to improve when Tom went into the game??

Interesting. Very.
Hard to fathom they had all offseason, saw JJ brutalize Stokes last season in the game in Minneapolis, and decided to come out with soft coverage provided by NOT their best CB.

What is it about our team for as long as I can remember, we canβt get one fucking yard on 3rd and one of 4th and one, ever.

That is something I feared .... our defense looked so dominant in training camp because our offense just isn't very good right now.
My memory may be failing me, but it seems like when John Kuhn was in his prime was about the last time we could pick up a yard on 3rd or 4th down with some sort of regularity.

I bet they had a better line then.
That may be right Pikes but it just seems like it was around that time. Kuhn was a pretty damn good blocker too

Oh, but there was nothing to worry about during the off-season - we were set at receiver. We have Lazard, Cobb and Watkins who will scare the shit out of β¦nobody.
Biggest minus - The O-Line is an absolute mess and Iβd put their play as the #1 culprit for the loss but certainly they werenβt the only ones who disappointed. Honestly, almost every facet of the team disappointed todayβ¦ defense, coaching, WRs, all had a rough week.
The biggest question mark going forward is whether Bahk and Jenkins can get healthy and return to formβ¦ and if so hopefully soon. I donβt know how badly Runyan got hurt, but if itβs anything serious, it just adds to the problems of a shaky unit.
The only real positives I saw was the RBs ran hardβ¦. thatβs about it though.

I get Rodgers (and most vet players) contention that THEY donβt need the work in preseason, but it really feels like live game work between Rodgers and his new skill guys would have been really beneficial for THEM.
Our vaunted defense wasn't.
Our OL couldn't.
Our wide receivers didn't.
'Nough said.
Admittedly the D looked bad BUT you need to win games when you give up 23.
Nah thatβs lack of concentration problem is that 9 did it all college years too - drops drops drops that ball was a gift basket from 12- not going to sugar coat when that kind of play happens - hope he mentally is going to come back - 12 doesnβt have a choice but to use 87+9 they are the only active wrβs
Lot of work to be done, for sure. Not going to be a fun week at GB. I think Runyan has a concussion, hope Walker is OK. But yeah, our o-line on the right side lacks talent, as does our receiving corps. If Watson and Doubs donβt find chemistry with AR, itβs going to be tough this year on offense.
The Packers former receivers had a combined 15 catches for 163 yds and 2 tds today.
@Grave Digger posted:I get Rodgers (and most vet players) contention that THEY donβt need the work in preseason, but it really feels like live game work between Rodgers and his new skill guys would have been really beneficial for THEM.
The other mistake was to think Watkins, Lazard and Cobb would make for a productive receiving corps, and that Lazard is a legit #1. Those three wouldnβt crack the Vikings starting lineup.
Basically zero film on Vajeens new schemesβ¦they wonβt have that luxury going forward. Yeah, the Packers were ill prepared, but they were worse in 2021 opener.
RELAXβ¦
Oh well get better for sure. But some serious concerns on the right side of the o-line and receivers. Bak and Jenkins coming back will fix the o-line. But talent at receiver is seriously lacking other than the rookies who will take time to integrate. I was really puzzled at the lack of carries Jones got.
