10 weeks from now would put him back at week 7 seven vs the Rams. That's quite different then week 14 vs the Lions.

Never a good time for this to happen but we are talking week 1 of pre-season. Not October.

Great point.
From MM's post practice presser tonight:

@TomSilverstein: Packers LB Desmond Bishop has a hamstring and surgery necessary. Season is in jeopardy.

‏@TomSilverstein: Talked about options with Bishop in regard to IR. Surgery will determine the extent of injury and recovery.

@TomSilverstein: House suffered a subluxation, which is a dislocation. After 3 weeks will know whether he'll have to wear a harness or possibly have surgery.

@TomSilverstein: House is out 2 or 3 weeks. Will be evaluated then to see if he's healing right.

@TomSilverstein: RB situation is not healthy. Starks suffered turf toe and out indefinitely.

3? Bishop sure, but House should be back before the season starts and Starks is hardly a significant loss if he is down for any length of time.
No need to panic, but 3 nasty injuries big or not in a lousy 1st of the year pre season game is still yeak.
But go ahead and panic, a major blood losing episode will do you a world of good. Just do not damage that 20’ by 20’ glossy picture you have of Boris.
Pretty sure he is having surgery today.

My dads words echoing in my head "God don't make mistakes" I accept this injury & already looking forward to attacking surgery Fri & rehab."
The NFLPA voted no on extending the trade deadline and the IR exception.

The discord between the NFL and NFLPA continues.

quote:
One source told Marvez that the NFLPA wanted to amend in-season rules for practices, but the NFL apparently wasn't interested in acquiescing.

These two sides can't agree on anything right now.

All the posturing and rhetoric we had to listen to from the NFLPA and player reps last year, and for what? Once again, just what the hell did these guys do prior to signing the CBA? You would think they would have the best of the best working on it. Players should be demanding a dues refund.
And I don't blame the league one bit for scoffing at further changes to practice rules. The players made their bed for this; tough titty if it's not to their liking. After all, it's been, what, 6-8 weeks or so into the new rules? Tsk.

With that said, however, it remains a shame that roster limits and game-day active eligibility can't be modenized (increaased). I think this would generally be beneficial to the players, as well as the teams, of course.

Absolutely correct.

Roger Goodell is taking a lot of stick these days but I'd rather have him in charge of my organization than De Smith. Players still finding out how badly they took pipe in the new CBA and IMO Smith is refusing to agree to anything substantive from the league these days as he's afraid to get snookered again.
Its not that they don't want the IR rule to be changed, its that they don't want to agree to anything without getting something in return. And the league in turn tries to slip other crap into the agreement to further their cause, not unlike last- minute riders congressman attach to bills. Total BS

The NFLPA are using it as leverage and given how badly they effed up the CBA talks, they are gun-shy in dealing with the League. Zero trust between the two sides and they're total adversaries instead of partners. Some decried the cozy relationship between Tags and Gene Upshaw, but those guys truly were partners and good for the game. These two are ****ing *******s to one another and they'd rather go "scorched earth" than agree to anything
I don't get the NFLPA. Don't you need some minimum level of practicing to be sharp? Maybe I don't understand the in season work week, but I thought it wasn't the grind that training camp is. They could have had more members eligible to play (1/2 season IR) in exchange for the possibility of teams trading players later in the year (probably so some team can refill their roster after injury to someone else, i.e. opportunity for better player to play). On the latter they really don't lose anything except more of their members will have to move during the season. Am I missing something?
I have a video of my wedding day. Sometimes I watch it in reverse. It ends with everyone backing out of the church and I pretend like it never happened. At times its refreshing.

Regarding the NFLPA. I agree with the points that DeMaurice is going to dig in over just about anything proposed by Goodell following how he was viewed over the CBA. Even if its a benefit to the Union he represents. He needs to go.
Schefter is reporting:

August 30, 2012 Only players with a "major injury" who are placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4, or thereafter during the season, will be eligible to be reactivated at a later time.

Sounds like the IR rule (or a variation of) that was previously shot down.
Has anyone read or heard anything (after the surgery) that Bishop could possibly have been able to play this year?

That looked like a bad injury, and even after eventually being cleared to resume football activities at some point how long could it have taken him to get back in football shape?
Thompson said the other day that Bishop wouldn't have been a candidate, sounded like they expected him to be out all year regardless.

Now this, so we shall see.

@adbrandt
Thus, players such as Desmond Bishop, etc. can be taken off IR before tomorrow then eligible for the in-season IR exception.

Well then. I guess that's what I guess for trying to turn around some quick analysis before the full cycle of a news event was finished.

The NFL will indeed have a new rule that allows one player from each team to be activated from injured reserve during the season, provided he is first part of the team's initial 53-man roster. But as part of its formal press release announcing the move, the league said there will be a one-time exception in 2012 for players who have already been placed on injured reserve this summer.

If a team wants one of those players to be eligible for in-season activation, they can be added back to the 53-man roster by Friday. That player could then be returned to injured reserve after next Tuesday to receive the designation that allows him to be activated later if desired. (Don't bother trying to diagram that sentence.)

Sooooo, that means two NFC North players who already are on injured reserve could in fact be eligible to play later this season -- if their teams add them back to the active roster by Friday. That list includes Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop (hamstring) and Chicago Bears safety Brandon Hardin (neck).

Again, it's debatable at best whether either player will recover from his injury before the end of the season. But from a technical standpoint, their teams could designate them in such a way that it remains a possibility. We'll know for sure by Friday
