@AdamSchefter: Raiders now plan to hire Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as their next general manager.

Good for Reggie -- he has more than paid his dues, and he has done a tremendous job for the Green and Gold. Good to see he's not ending up with the B***s. Hope he is empowered enough to clean up the detritus left there by Al. The NFL is better off with the Raiders in the hunt.

I'd guess John Dorsey moves up to Reggie's spot and Eliot Wolf gets greater responsibilities as well. Reggie better not steal Eliot!

Well earned for him. Sucks to see talented FO guys leave GB, but that's the nature of this business especially when you have success. At least it wasn't Chicago, where his name was floated around as a possibility. Guess this explains why Dorsey declined to speak with Indy. You have to figure he has the inside track at getting the promotion to Director of Football Ops. here

In biology, detritus is non-living particulate organic material (as opposed to dissolved organic material). It typically includes the bodies or fragments of dead organisms as well as fecal material. Detritus is typically colonized by communities of microorganisms which act to decompose (or remineralize) the material. In terrestrial ecosystems, it is encountered as leaf litter and other organic matter intermixed with soil, which is referred to as humus. Detritus of aquatic ecosystems is organic material suspended in water, which is referred to as marine snow.

good for reggie. can't believe it took him this long to get a head job
Except for the fact that the Raiders only have a 5th and a 6th round pick this year thanks to the Carson Palmer trade and their other mistakes.

Good for McKenzie. I just hope they give him the time to fix things up, because it has been mismanaged for so long.

Disagree. I think Hue can be a good head coach. He is worse than Mike Sherman at being a "GM" though. He caught the Raiders at a vulnerable time and was able to get Carson Palmer by giving up a kings ransom.

(Can you believe the Bengals got those draft picks for Carson and all we got for Favre was a 3rd rounder?)

As long as Reggie has full power over all football operations, this is a very good thing for the Raiders. Don't be surprised to see the Raiders in the playoffs as early as next season.
Trade was a disaster from the start. Campbell isn't any good but at least he takes care of the football. Raiders D was bad all year and they couldn't afford to have an offense that turns the ball over a lot. Palmer had 17 turnovers in 10 games played whereas Campbell only had 5 in 6 games

McKenzie will have his work cut out for him. Raiders have very little to work with in the draft for the next 2 years
Because they didn't make the playoffs, the Raiders lose a 1st this year (2012) and a 2nd next year.(2013) At least they didn't lose their first 2 years running.

Reggie knows how to handle this. I can only hope for Raider fans they have given Reggie full control over all football operations.

This is big news for the Raiders. They're going to be very good in a few years.

FYI, the Raiders have no picks until round 5 in 2012.

I think Eliot is staying put in Green Bay. We'll see....
Backing up Boris' last point:

@BobMcGinn: The Packers have lost R. McKenzie to Raiders but ascending scout Eliot Wolf isn't going anywhere. Wolf likely to be next head of pro dept.

Reggie's old job IIRC.

Like I said.... the guy is being groomed for GM in Green Bay, He's obviously a little young right now but when TT is ready to turn the keys to this Lamborghini over, he wants to make sure the transition is nice & smooth.
Found this to be a little amusing:

quote:
@BobMcGinn: Ron Wolf and Ken Herock didn't interview Reggie McKenzie in Oakland Wed. The interview was conducted by Mark Davis [n.b., Al's son] and John Madden.

Great to hear about Eliot. Now, just wonder if Ken Herock's son will end up going to Oakland or not
I think you will see a better Carson Palmer if he has a training camp with his receivers. They paid too much but it is going to make the Bengals an interesting team to watch. They have been drafting pretty good the last couple of years.
In reality Oakland has had some pretty damn good football minds in there organization over the years. They are fortunate to have the advice of these guys and it will be good for them and with some stable leadership they could be contenders in the near future.

While Palmer and Campbell are not top tier QB's they are very capable QB's especially with a good running attack. With a good training camp next year they will have good depth after some good competition to raise the level of play.
Raiders fans are loving this. Hue's head got a bit too big for his britches this year supposedly, (I didn't follow the Raiders, so I wouldn't know) and the fans really want to see a change.

MM and DC were able to find quality assistants last time, so if this staff gets plucked, I'm confident they can do it again.

Why, because you can't pull your head out of your ass long enough to realize that GB's special teams play is actually a strength on the team? Of course, Slocum has nothing to do with that at all.

I could see Trgovac going as the DC, the other 3 prolly stay in GB ... for now.
