"he was trying to be someone he wasn't. Like we were talking about Kirk earlier, just being himself, being a disciplined accurate quarterback and just playing within himself. I feel like Robert was trying to be Aaron Rodgers, or trying to be someone he wasn't instead of embracing himself and what he's good at and building on that"

Some juicy tidbits from Sexy Rexy.

In due time....everything comes out.

I think I "hear" some bitter grapes in Grossman's remarks, especially regarding Cousins.
In any case, Rat Face was the problem in Washington, IMO. He was burning out (if he wasn't already) at that point in his career, and it didn't bode well for developing a young QB.
I think it's just as true RG III needed every bit of that development. He could run when a play broke down, and had an arm, but needed the experience of reading defenses/decision making typical of first-year QBs.
Somewhere in the middle of those two is where Grossman's comments originate.

Doesn't make sense because he was so good his first year & very coachable just like Rexy said. I don't get it. Something happened.

Maybe RG III started believing the hype. Head gets too big, preparation goes out the window.

Great professional athletes like Aaron Rodgers, hell, back to the days of Ted Williams in MLB, are/were Hall of Famers because they had natural athletic abilities; those abilities were also enhanced by a tremendous amount of preparation. No matter how good you are at chucking the pigskin, if you don't watch film, and prepare for your opponent, rest assured the opposing defense will be preparing for you, and they'll find your weaknesses every time.
