I agree MichiganPacker on the minor league system in the NFL. Itโ€™s not viable although I wish they could figure something out. Something about how guys non-starters compete in preseason that I sincerely enjoy. I think NFL minor leagues would fun to watch. Pro football is more enjoyable to watch because games are tightly timed and are more organized, but the atmosphere in college and level of effort is better. Combine those two into a lower league and I think that would be seriously fun.

Bullshit! Do a search of MVP winning QBs. How many failed to throw 35? Did Starr ever hit 30?

In the last 30 years, itโ€™s only not happened a handful of times. Hard to compare QBs across eras like that considering Starrโ€™s MVP year he threw 250 passes, which Rodgers had thrown by game 7 this year. I agree with you itโ€™s a overly specific stat that is weirdly exclusive to other QBs. Starrโ€™s TD:INT was 7, that would be 4th best in this list.

There was no such thing as the "2 yard TD pass" in Starr's time. The year he won MVP he threw exactly one TD pass (out of 14) of less than 10 yards.

Then he should have limited it to the last 30 years. Of course, that leaves out a whole lot of pro-football and sounds less impressive.

Tough to compare QBs over different eras due to style changes and updates to rules that in modern times really allow QBs to accumulate ridiculous numbers.

Phil Simms has 2 rings and won an MVP in the SB.  Dude has 199 career TD passes.  Call him a game manager all you want, but his completion percentage of 88% against the Broncos still stands today.

When you consider the caliber of defenses that guys like Simms played against not to mention DBs being allowed to hand check I think you can normalize the stats somewhat.  In todayโ€™s wide open NFL receivers are basically allowed to run free and QBs always get the benefit of the doubt when he comes late hits or hits at all.    Not that long ago, QBs got pummeled routinely by the likes of LT and Reggie and Derrick Thomas and Bruce Smith and letโ€™s not forget the head hunting DBs like Ronnie Lott that could take your head off and not have to worry about getting flagged for hitting a โ€œdefenselessโ€ WR.

Iโ€™m actually more impressed with what WRs like Sharpe and Rice and others did back in the day.  They had to really earn their numbers.  Trevon Diggs or Antonio Brown would have been broken in two had they played back then.
