Rodgers wants control, as Brandt said. He played his hand right before the draft, through his agent, thinking that would be the best time for getting/taking control. The Packers didn't flinch. They didn't because they had control before this happened and still do. If he really wanted to get control, he needed to start this public conversation back in late Feb. Now, he's more at the mercy of the Packers than he would have been 2 months ago.

If/When they trade him, he still doesn't get control. So while he'd have another job, it wouldn't be the one he wants.

Why?  Because they'll take less to bury him with some shit team?  The guy is a cancer anyways.  He'll just poison any team he goes to.  Or are they worried he'll light them up?

That's good management.

I think Rodgers' camp did it right before the draft to try to put the most public pressure on the side they think is being unreasonable.

I also still think AR wanted the Packers Front Office's 2021 draft to be just as miserable as his was in 2020 (an opinion shared by the one journalist I like in Aaron Nagler).

I'd say it worked on both counts.  (Who did we draft again?)

I also think making them squirm like this is some satisfaction in and of itself for a guy like AR, and if they budge even a little now he'll belly up to the table and join the team.

This is fixable and it's going to happen, for the simple reason that it makes the most sense for both sides.

If it doesn't, then I agree heads need to roll.

Per a league source, Rodgers wants a new contract.

April. 29, 2021

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

League, and then League and Team?

So Rodgers was telling FA's a year ago not to come to GB?  And was also complaining about Kumerow getting cut?  How does this make any sense?

What next, it'll be reported that Rodgers is the one who shot John Wick's dog?

I wouldn’t say the sports landscape sucks.  The NBA is shaping up to have a bananas postseason and there are literally 6-7 teams that could realistically win the title this year.  The Bucks/Nets game Sunday and last night was entertaining as hell.

The NBA is really onto something with the playin tournament too. A lot of players and some owners are on record as hating it, but they hate it because it actually makes a lot more regular-season games meaningful. We have about 7-8 games left for most teams and there are roughly 20-21 teams that still have a shot at making the playoffs. The difference between the 6th and 7th seed is almost as big as between any two seeds since you don't have to go into the playin tournament and get the week off so those teams are still playing hard. Look at tonight, instead of the Bucks playing  game against a Wizards team tonight that in past years would be just playing out the string, the Wizards are now in the playin games. If you are the #1 seed like the Sixers do you really want to see Beal and Westbrook in round 1?

I guess it's how you parse it.  He's saying he won't be there so take that into consideration vs. flat out telling FA not to sign there.

If true, the later is definitely some petty shit.  If he's flat out telling FA not to sign then that's bullshit.

As the report stated, it didn't stop Bak or Aaron Jones from signing contracts and they're right in the locker room with the guy.

Jordan should have won 2-3 more than he did.

These stories are classic if they are accurate.  Telling FAs not to sign as he may not be around.  Calling Gute Jerry Krause.   That’s some high school drama amateur hour crap right there.  But it’s also 100% insecure and passive aggressive and hypersensitive Aaron Rodgers at his worst.

Just like at the Kentucky Derby, maybe he’ll say he’s disappointed those stories came out and he has the utmost respect for Gutey.  Beautiful fucking mystery indeed.

this is bummer news that it got out. those group texts are private and I'd be pissed off if I were Rodgers. Its a tough situation for all and there is zero upside to smearing either side.

The media lives for it, but no need for players to choose sides or share inside jokes. We all make snide comments about our co-workers and bosses...and taken out of context, they can look worse than they are.

We want cooler heads to prevail here, please stop pouring gas on it

Yes. I'm sure other teammates have some mocking comments about McCarthy or others in the past as well. It just serves to make Rodgers even more paranoid than he already is, if that's even possible.

If true that he was discouraging FAs from signing with GB after years of pissing about the need to be "all in", that's not far from Favre giving pointers to the Lions. If it was more than typical employee pissing and moaning about management and a real form of vengeful sabotage,  then fuck him and his smug, smartest-guy-in-the-room demeanor. No amount of talent offsets a true team betrayal.

But it's only about AR and Gute and Murphy. It's light years away from Favre and won't have any effect on the locker room...just ask Raven Greene.

It’s time to move on. Too much smoke for there not to be a inferno. AR refuses to do anything to diffuse what he has said and demanded, so I believe much of it to be true. What is Denver offering? Let’s make a deal. If AR has something to say, now is definitely the time. Have some balls.

If he goes to Denver, then they'll have the horse's mouth and the horse's ass.

I been on the side of AR for the most part because as a Packers fan I want to see the team I root for win.  But Rodgers is WAY out of line with this comparison of Gutekunst to Jerry Krause. And Rodgers should apologize.

He should man up and apologize to Jerry Krause's family for such a slight.

I mean, one GM did everything possible to surround his star player with top line players, made shrewd trades, signed FAs that were crucial, drafted great players multiple times, and ultimately built a roster and staff than surrounded his star with the talent and coaching to win 6 titles in 8 years.

And the other GM drafted a 3rd string up QB with the sole intent of pushing out his star player, a 3rd string RB, and a FB that most had going 2 rounds later after coming off of a NFCC title game.

Gutekunst isn't in the same galaxy as Jerry Krause as far as being a GM of a professional sports team, and Rodgers should feel bad for even making that kind of comparison.

LOVE me some Andrew Brandt.

Hi Aaron!

Right now, I'd say the FO, by virtue of just being quiet, is looking pretty good as more of this media crap keeps spinning out of control about what Rodgers has or hasn't said. Rodgers looks pretty bad if he compares his GM to Krause, leads his teammates to believe he's going to be there when he's not, and tells FAs to not come to GB -- the latter two of which would go over real well in the locker room. Right.

"And for $1000, the answer is: 'Poisoned his own house.'"

"Who is the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers?"

"Correct!"

Rodgers should say something soon or they will have him personally responsible for the pandemic.

@Goalline posted:

Unless Gute runs Rodgers, Davante, and MLF out of town in the same year he ain't Krause.  Krause also built the team that won 6 titles.  Yup, still not Krause.

Asinine statement if true.  At this point Rodgers needs to grow a pair, go on McAfee and tell his side.  He's starting to lose the narrative.

That would require him to actually grow a pair and speak the truth and not venture off into his typical passive aggressive ramblings.

I mean, if you are pissed and don’t appreciate how you’ve been treated get it on the record and speak for yourself instead of your handlers doing all the dirty work for you.   People may not agree with you, but at least they’d get to hear it directly from you and you might actually gain more respect from the fans.

I mean, for a guy that is always so concerned about how he’s viewed and perceived he’s not doing a great job in that regard.   Then again, maybe it was all a facade to begin with.

That was always the trajectory. Everything else is an invention. Some of it was leaked public negotiating, a lot of the vendetta talk is just made up IMO. I believe reporters were told these things, a lot of it seems like they read between the lines, I think they were made up though by sources. GB certainly has been negotiating, Rodgers is certainly holding out, as a player in a contract year with peaking value does, but this was never a “Thanks Ted” moment.

Kiss his ass now, or do it later when we retire his jersey, no matter how many bridges he burns on his way out.

Never should have had that Bert ceremony during AR’s tenure. I argued at the time they should never have had it, period. You don’t reward someone who hates you. They should have put it up for shareholders’ vote and made the shares mean something.

As just pointed out by Demovsky on the Herd, Rodgers was there that day. Now he knows he can be the biggest back-stabbing A-hole on the planet and will still be welcome back some day.

The Packers can win this PR battle and still lose the war.

French kiss his ass right now Gute. Everyone knows you’ll do it later anyway, or the Board will for you if you’re not around.

FTFY.  The more I am hearing about group texts that compare what 7th grade girls would typically be part of, the more I am realizing what a petty putz AR is.

For the love of God man, be a leader and start emulating Bart Starr and not Karen....

Absolutely agree the vendetta talk could be overstated to beef up his bargaining power. But you still have to get your nose brown if you’re  Gute to make this work.

Concessions obviously have to be made or this would not have leaked nuclear like this.
