Very excited to Adams, Clinton-Dix, Linsley, and Rodgers develop this summer.  I think the first 3 have pro bowl talent.  Not sure if Rodgers does but could easily see him developing into a very solid, well rounded starter (just never on the level of a Gronk, Graham, Gates, Witten, etc.).

Wish I had the same confidence in the "red shirt" guys like Thornton, Bradford and Goodman.  Not because they can't improve/develop but because we saw literally nothing from them last year.  Hard to get excited about guys you know nothing about.

EDIT: Goodson....not Goodman.

Red shirt rookies.

FWIW, Ketchman insists we will see a big jump from RR in year two, that he has star potential at the position.  Whenever he runs it just always shocks me that he ever started as a WR at Cal.  Sure he put on some weight to play TE but I don't think all that added weight was in his feet!

We haven't seen them, but Thompson and MM have. Let's see what happens on draft day and that should offer some hints about the red-shirt players going forward

One of the really impressive plays for Adams was the fake spike against Miami. He didn't look like he knew what was about to happen or was even prepared for it, but he reacted quickly and made a lot out of what realistically could have been a disaster. If he catches it and runs inside or even tries to push his way to the endzone then it's game over, but he was smart enough to get what he could and get OOB. If he keeps playing smart like that then he has a pro bowl/all pro future.

“We’re not quite going to be on the same page every single time, but if you cannot line up right, if you can’t get the checks, and if you can’t get what you’re supposed to do every time, then there’s no way you can possibly be on the field when I’m out there,” Rodgers said then. “If those guys can’t cut it, then there’s no way they can possibly be on the field. It doesn’t matter how physically talented they are.”

What A-Rod is suggesting is physical skill is secondary to Mental prowess at WR.  This explains why Nelson appears so fast for a 'white' guy.  It also explains why Janus was rarely seen on the field in spite of his tallants, slower learner.  Shocking that ROTTT brought in dum dum Colt Lyer?a for a look.  Maybe TE's don't need to be smert.

I suspect Uncle Ted reached for Rodgers in the third rd last year because they knew he had hands and was a fast learner.  40 times be damned.

What I admire about the guy is his high football IQ, as evidenced in how perfectly he played the fake spike pass in Miami and that short pass late in the fourth quarter of the Dallas game. After fighting off the CB trying to steal the ball, he ambles downfield as far as he can go, careful to stay far from the sidelines. He just knows what he's doing. I remember him at Fresno State wondering if David Carr was just making him look good. That was a foolish notion.

I don't think I've ever read such glowing offseason reports for a Packer before.  If these are at all accurate, this offense is going to be unstoppable.  I mean last year they had no reliable 3rd option; it was Jordy and Randall and then hoping Adams, Rodgers, Quarless, etc. could do something.  If Adams can play every game like the Patriots and Cowboys games, this might be the best offense of AR's tenure.

CUPackFan, the reports on Adams are not exaggerated at all. He looks stellar. Very strong - not unlike Sterling Sharpe back in the day. He was catching everything. This is going to be one hell of an offense with him developing the way he is, along with a bunch of others. Richard Rodgers looks equally improved. Then, we have Janis improved over last season, Abby, and we have added Montgomery and Backman, via the draft. I believe Kennard Backman at TE will surprise many Packers fans. He is very good as well.

I think Adams will easily go over 1000 yds receiving this season. He will be very difficult to stop. Already looks completely dialed in with Aaron Rodgers. Should be a fun season to watch.

When Richard Rodgers came in to OTAs last season as a rookie, he was somewhat freakish to me. Gigantic legs. Gigantic. He looked so incredibly underdeveloped in his torso, and completely overdeveloped in legs. Well, he has evened that out and looks fantastic. I think he will be having a great season too this year, along with Adams.

The weapons at Aaron Rodgers' disposal are better than we may have ever seen in Green Bay. It is looking that good. I can hardly wait to see this offense tear it up. I guarantee, if we stay relatively healthy, defenses will not be able to keep up. All those complete routes we saw last season? My guess is we will be in for many, many more of this in this 2015 season, especially with Davante Adams. Is he a #3 WR? I don't think so. Seems we have three #1 WRs in Nelson, Cobb and Adams.

Here is an interesting take on MM from MMQB: http://mmqb.si.com/2015/06/17/...y-green-bay-packers/

Figure, with Rodgers having what I expect will be more freedom to make and adjust calls based on what he sees, this could be incredibly potent. I love this change, Mike McCarthy removing himself a bit more on the O side, and taking care of business more on D and STs.

Does anybody else remember a bit of flack between Rodgers and McCarthy last year after 3 weeks of play regarding McCarthy holding too firmly to his scripted plays?

Adams is strong but Sharpe seemed more of a brawler while Adams has more burst. Another similarity that won't get talked about is their football IQ's.  Sharpe was an extremely savvy player and reports are so far that Adams is developing those traits (see vs MIA).

He reminds me of Dez Bryant at this point though Bryant seems to have a more aggressive demeanor - fighting for the ball, etc.

I've heard Adams compared to James Jones but he is clearly more athletic and probably has more burst as well.  JJ had great hands in traffic but he didn't seem to get as much separation (hence the tough grabs he had to make between defenders).

1000 yards may be expecting too much for Adams but not because he isn't capable.  When AR has as many options as he has, including a 1200yd RB who can also catch, I think it's tough to imagine 3WR's with 1000k a piece.  Unless you imagine him with more yards than Nelson or Cobb.

DH13, thanks for the article. Man, is that great.

My thinking on Adams easily breaking off 1000 yds this year is that he will be matching up with most teams' #3 CBs. It is going to be a wide open and very deep well for Rodgers to throw to. At this point, I don't really see Nelson or Cobb caring one way or another who gets the touches, and opposing teams will have to very carefully pick their poison in trying to defend us.

The mismatch made in Heaven.

phaed, you are right! The best OL in decades.

With all the options listed above, I just don't see how even 2 guys make it to 1000 again this year.  Last year we didn't have a clear #3 until later in the year when Adams emerged.  TE was hit or miss so AR kept going to RC and JN.  Adams is fully capable and I don't think it's a matter of others having a problem with fewer catches or yards.  I just think the math doesn't pencil out unless he's the only guy over 1k.  Rich folk problems.

Interestingly enough, the same guy who recruited and coached James Jones at San Jose State, recruited Davante at Fresno State...Keith Williams, WR coach at Tulane now.

Tae will make an impact.

I think a lot depends on who else catches passes and stays healthy. Rodgers is probably good for 4300-4400 yards and tends to spread the ball fairly well.

I have huge expectations for the team this year.  A lot more than usual.  I'm sure the team will play with a chip on their shoulder, including coaching.  I don't expect the team to go into the "mercy rule" game management they have tended to do after a big lead.  I think it will be more like "destroy and conquer".  It at least better be.

My new favorite X4 poster. I am no longer a Satan worshipper.

Ankle still bothering Davante

After a year and a half, Adams ranks 12th among all the entire class of 2014 wide receivers with 70 receptions, 13th in yards (768) and tied for 14th in touchdowns (three).

"He's a strong, hard runner in the vein of Dez Bryant," an NFC personnel man said Tuesday. "That has ways to affect DBs as equally as speed. He's got good quickness. It's just the long speed.

"This is his second year. I think he has the potential to grow into being a good player. Those guys (Jennings, Nelson, Cobb) are a different level, but Jordy wasn't Jordy in his first couple years. It does take time."

Jennings had the worst drop rate (8.1%) of his Packers' career in his second season. In his Year 2, Nelson sprained a knee and was relegated to No. 4. Jones' second year was a downer due to a recurring knee injury, erratic hands and negligible run after the catch.

"He's hit the bump in the road," said Van Pelt. "It's a crossroads for him. He's got to toughen up, get mentally tougher and make the plays that are there for him to make.

"I wasn't there but I hear talk of 'J.J.' (Jones) in his second year having the drops. Guys have that. It's part of the growth process.

I think it's an important reminder that in their second years, Jordy, Jennings, and JJ all had some pretty mediocre years. As explained above. Still, here's a look at the rookie WR's since 2014:

That he was still injured this last game was obvious to anyone watching the game.

That the coaches left him in there useless like that is the part that needs a spotlight right now.  As in RIGHT NOW.  It is either on the coaches for not seeing it or accepting it, or on the sheer ineptitude of his backup.

Either way, trotting him back out there to watch him literally trot around again should not even be an option right now.

Anyone thinking Adams flat out sucks and was "only OK" last year needs to watch him vs. NE and DAL.  No mediocre WR has days like that.  "oh but what about the other games? "  He was a rook for chrissake.   He's young, he's still developing and now he's injured.  We'll see next season.  Like most good players, he surprised some defenders last year as a rook, they now know how to defend him, and he has to develop a counter to those punches.  On top of that he was thrusted into the #2 slot.  He's been brutal but that's not unusual.  His struggles have been magnified by the overall dumps of the passing game.  He needs to work his way out of it.
