Guessing there was next to no market for him. Packers are signing him as insurance in the event they can’t get the type of RB they want in the draft or Emmanuel Wilson doesn’t pan out.

Theres also the distinct possibility he never sees the 53 by the time September rolls around.

But I do believe he will see Door County.

Damn.....so disappointing Dillon didn't get Xavier money. 😭

Like I mentioned earlier.....teams really need to be like $20M or more under the cap...SO THEY CAN SIGN PLAYERS TO 1 YEAR DEALS......plus UDFA's plus draftees plus if anyone gets injured....etc. etc. etc.

Dillon is receiving a four-year qualifying contract is made for players who spent at least the previous four years with the team. It's a one-year contract, up to $1.45 million more than the minimum salary. In Dillon's case, it will be $2.575 million.  It will only count the minimum 1.35 million against the cap.

He or his agent must have talked to several teams and no one offered what the Packers must have told him what he could sign for. And Gutey must have told him the offer is good as long as he didn't try to use it against the Packers.

I mean, all the other front offices are aware of the rule so it's not like he'd be revealing a state secret.

How did you get that from what I posted?     It was posted all week that once you turn down an offer from Gutey it is gone.  And we don't know what other incentives may be involved.

It makes more sense for Dillon to sign with Green Bay on that deal than any other team.

Clearly had Z-E-R-O market - no other team was interested or he would've been signed already

Dillon and Jacobs will create quite a pounding.  Add a speedy, pass catching back and look out.  Dillon will help keep Jacobs from getting overworked.  Love have Dillon back and not too much $.

I have to think with a 17 game season, teams need to carry one more RB.  These guys take beatings like no one else on the team.  Have to imagine the Pack uses a Round 3 or earlier pick on the fastest RB they can find

I am very happy with this move.  Good guy, good (not great) player who knows the GBP offense, and low $$ amount.  I'd like to see him used in more of a fullback role.

Yeah a good dude, but was expecting a bit more Taylor/Brockington type runs.

This move was Gute giving MLF what he needed to maximize his offense

A big pounder who forces Cover-1 with a safety in the box, instead of Cover-2 with 2 deep safeties to limit the deep shots & passing game. He's also sound in pass pro as noted by others

As far as Dillon at FB/H-back -  he really doesn't have the lateral movement skills to  block well in space. Dillon is a north - south dude and he can block on runs up the middle, but asking him to take on the Deguara role-  doesn't fit his skillset.

Look at AJ Dillon's spider map below- top marks everywhere EXCEPT 3 cone, which measures change of direction. Those thunder thighs just ain't nimble.

He would have been great in the  sixties and early seventies.

Ps….I loved that style of football.  It’s just the GB sweep and 3 yds and a cloud of dust will not cut it today.

AJ Dillon is a good depth guy. He just shouldn't have been taken in the 2nd round. Now that we can think of him as just a minimum salary guy, it should calibrate our expectations properly.

Dillon is a guy that can get you 4 yards on a play that is blocked for 2. He's also a guy that will often get you 4 yards when the play is blocked for 8.

He knows the offense. He knows the blitz pickups. He has a lot of reps with Jordan Love that he will know when to leak out for a check down.

He can also lose one yard on 4th and short because he takes 2 ticks just to reach the line.

That's my favorite thing about adding Jacobs. They can rip all the QB sneak plays out of the playbook and toss them in the fire.

DeGuara, when compared against other TEs was only in the 50th percentile for the 3-cone.  And against ball carriers, he was in the 28th percentile. Not nimb;e or agile.  Maybe that's why it didn't work out. But to your point, AJ Dillon definitely has a place on the team, and certainly in the offense.

Wow!
Pretty much a vet minimum deal with incentives. I thought he would be worth much more.

Sounds like a good deal for the Packers. They get a guy who knows their system, loves the area and is a fan favorite, for next to nothing.  This signing was a bargain.

I respectfully disagree. There is a reason no other team pursued him. Great guy but not an NFL caliber player.

I wonder... Is it that no other team pursued him or that the money was close to the same or even less? Considering his familiarity with the team and area, family ties, etc., that may have led him to stay. I can see why he'd rather return to GB than start over some other place if all things are close to equal.

I can also see another team not bothering to make an offer because either they don't see any value, or they know that unless they overpay they're not going to get him out of GB.

This board has idot for football opinions and just insane football takes. Yours won't fit in either category.

Solid deal for GB and for Dillon. AJD is so loved in the area he'll have plenty of income opportunities after his NFL days. If he's good with hometown discounts they could do worse than him for the next couple years.

Saying he wasn’t an NFL caliber player was too harsh and inaccurate on my part. I was just hoping for an upgrade. Guessing we will add another in the Draft.

Bears will "make noise"

Watson is a waste of a roster spot.

AJ Dillon is not an NFL caliber player. The same guy that rushed for 76 yards versus the eventual Super Bowl champs. There are exactly Z-E-R-O people on the planet that can rush for 76 yards in an NFL game while not being NFL caliber.

Yeahhhh...... Must be the off season 😆

Given his wife grew up in Green Bay and his affinity for the area, there's no doubt in my mind that if the offers from other teams were even remotely close, he was going to choose to stay in GB.  He may be one of the few guys in the NFL who actually would take a hometown discount.

Last week Tausch said he could see Dillon planning for his life after football and making sure he's embedding himself even more into WI in general (business, charity, etc) after he's done playing like Tauscher or Driver did.  It's more difficult to do that if you leave.

That said, I noticed his contract has zero signing bonus.  That means the Packers could cut him before the season and owe him nothing at all.  So he still has to make the team to see anything of value from this deal.
