He certainly contributed more back hair.
If Deguara is Italian and that was a racist comment...Iām reporting you to the Knights of Columbus.

On his back maybe.
Well that's a bummer. You hate losing anyone but it's harder for a rookie b/c I imagine the learning curve takes a huge hit when you can't be practicing, in the film room, etc. Especially this year with the COVID restrictions. Hope he makes a quick, clean recovery and comes back hungry next year.
That one time, he made that block. That was awesome.

@packerboi posted:To add, per Ryan Wood, who got a chance to talk to J. Alexander, Alexander immediately noticed Degura's work ethic. Like him, Degura goes after every single play again and again and again and dissects every damn thing about the play and what he could have done better. Per Alexander, he's almost obsessive about it.
He said it's rare to see that kind of initiative in a rookie. Who knows, just maybe we won't be wondering why this dude was a 3rd rounder after all.
I think this Draft and UDFA class may prove to be a very good one, when all things shake out and the draftees get to play, on a regular basis. I was upset with Gute for the picks he made, at first, pretty much like everyone else was, but now, I think his decisions were very sound ones and he drafted some playmakers.

Deguara aiming for a strong comebackā¦
They want him all over the field- power football like SF usesā¦ I like it.
That kid is going to be so good. Loved the little glimpse we caught of him.

stoked to see him in year 2 and the various wrinkles from MLF as they move Deguara around the formation. He can also be RB4 and handle a few carries like Kuhn had over the years.
He looked pretty good before getting hurt. Coming back from an ACL iinjury tempers my excitement for him a bit. It does seem like guys can come back faster from these injuries much faster than they used to so hopefully he makes a full recovery.
I'd guess Josiah is why they only gave Tonyan a 1 yr deal.
I don't think those two are connected at all. Two completely different roles on the team. They went cheap on Tonyan to see if last year was no fluke (IMO, it wasn't) and because of the current cap situation.
@H5 posted:I'd guess Josiah is why they only gave Tonyan a 1 yr deal.
Not so sure about that, they really play different positions despite being in the same room.
GB's maxxed cap needed a cheeep year from Tonyan in 2021, the last season they'll get him for less than he's worth.
Deguara's skill set is vital to the MLF offense, but he's really not a seam-buster like Tonyan/Sternberger. I've never seen an athletic profile like his though, he's down in the 4th percentile for height among tight ends.

Didn't matter when he took out 2 vikes with one block at the 2 minute mark
Tonyan is George Kittle.
Deguara is Kyle Juszczyk.

He's already done more than Turdburger and hasn't played a full NFL game yet.

This is, sadly, a true statement.

TE Josiah Deguara - 2 targets, 1 catch, 12 yards, 0 TDs
And lets not forget his one block that put him out for the season. He must learn to block and not get injured in the process. If he can't stay on the field (and I think the jury is out on this), his versatility doesn't do anyone any good.
TE Jace Sternberger - 15 targets, 12 catches, 114 yards, 1 TD.
Of his 3 targets that he did not catch, one was a crossing route on which he was wide open that he dropped in plain sight of everyone. Up to that point he was getting more opportunities. I think that is what most base their opinion of him from last year. I know I remember that over anything else he did last year. Still, he has plenty of room to improve in his blocking. And he has had injuries too. Even last year he dressed for 12 games and he was lightly used.
These two did more for opening the door for Tonyan's good season than anything else by their absence. And I think both Jace and Josiah have plenty to prove and improve upon this year.
I think MLF's using Tonyan did more for Tonyan's emergence than anything else. He flashed a couple of times under MM, but MM never recognized it. MLF comes on board and after a year, Tonyan finally gets recognized and used. It's the full implementation of the offense and putting guys in places they can be successful.
Yep, Tonyan was just getting a head of steam in 2019 before the core muscle injury. Was never the same after that. See Lazard in 2020. Same deal.

so is MLF and his position coach:
āGetting Josiah on board with us, it just adds another dimension and brings the offense alive,ā tight ends coach Justin Outten said. āGoing back to the Atlanta days with Matt (LaFleur) and being able to use the fullback role and put him in different spots, you see the success Juice (Kyle Juszczyk) has in San Francisco.
āAs he progresses, I just feel like heās going to open up some more things for us, just being as universal as he is. Excellent pro as far as being in the meeting room and having the right questions. Really good attitude throughout this whole process. Heās a joy to be around. ā
I don't see how he will be any better than super back was. Danny V had the same body type and skill set.
Danny V was a pretty shitty receiver from what I remember.
He couldn't raise his hands over his head to catch cuz traps
@Henry posted:Danny V was a pretty shitty receiver from what I remember.
nah... That's what made him so good at NorthWestern.
Two players have the same body type and measurables. One may be a really good football player. The other one, may not.
here's an article from the internet talking about how the 49ers use 21 personnel and beat teams with it whether running or passing. They force teams into base defense and then force them into no-win decisions
Its got some clips too - showing how they deployed Juice-chek and how MLF is likely to use Deguara.
https://touchdownwire.usatoday...its-of-21-personnel/
Putting this together we see how Shanahan and the 49ers remain effective out of 21 personnel. They have the ability to throw the football with success, but even when they keep the football on the ground, personnel and alignment puts them in positions to gain yardage in the running game. That makes them an extremely difficult offense to defend. How well the 49ers implement that 21 personnel package in 2020 ā and how often ā will be critical to their success in the season ahead.
They key is to have a guy athletic enough to be a threat in passing game and stout enough to block in space. The hope is that Deguara is that guy and the early returns are positive.
Packers TE Josiah Deguara has been medically cleared and is off PUP. He tore his ACL in Week 5 last season as a rookie, so he's a little less than 10 months out from his injury.
