Don’t know if I read it hear or somewhere else but there is speculation that he’s been having back issues again  and that’s the real problem.

If there are anything resembling chronic back issues, it makes his contract negotiations more complicated.

The total deal, including the balance of 2020, has a base value of $103.5 million, with up to $2 million in incentives. For the four new years, Bakhtiari earns $23 million per year, a record for offensive linemen.

I think we are watching the final 9-10 games of Jones career in GB. King too if he ever returns.

I think Rodgers is gone after 2021 also. They would have to pay Rodgers and Bakh 60 million combined if they have a 23 million cap charge. We'll have to see how the cap charges are structured.

Maybe we should have picked an OL, DL, LB, and WR with our first four picks this year. Hell, Elgton Jenkins has arguably been our most consistent/valuable OL over the past 2 years and he's on his rookie contract.

The moves/draft picks by our GM over the past 2 years are giving me a bad vibe.

Bak is a fantastic LT, no question about it.  I just don't think he's worth that kind of money in GB when you consider how many positions need to upgraded along with players like Aaron Jones coming up in UFA.  Jones is a dynamic football player.  They are rare birds.... and the Bak contract will likely mean Jones will play elsewhere next season.  I'm not good with that.

I agree. The moves are inconsistent as a group. Signing Bakh for 4 years is a move you make if you think you can win now. If you extend guys for that much money, your draft picks have to produce on their rookie contracts. It also means that they must be assuming that Dillon will take over for  Jones next year and Love will take over for Rodgers in 2022.

They've drafted like they think they are rebuilding, but extending Bakh is a win now move.

Completely agree. I have zero idea what Gutekunst's thought process here is. Unless he wants to emulate the mid 00's-10's Cleveland Browns and have a stud LT surrounding a bunch of pedestrian offensive players.

To me it says they are not interested in uprading skill positions outside of the draft and UDFA.

if they let 33 walk, then they gotta resign Jamaal as the bell cow, and draft a speed guy...which is always a crap shoot. King is gonzo, which is probably a blessing. He cannot stay healthy. Linsley is gone, no tears about that one.

RT needs an upgrade...Turdner is too damn inconsistent.

Give DBakh 4 years, $90M, with $30M guaranteed. That’s workable for everyone.

Just noticed the actual is extension is 4 years, 92 million. Wasn’t even close on the guaranteed though, shocking amount of guarantees. 2/3 of the deal is a lot and out of character for GB. I will be curious what Bakh caved on to get those kinds of guarantees?

Williams is not a "bell cow" , big drop off from Jones. I wouldn't be so quick to write off Linsley PFF has him rated as the #1 center. Agree on Turner

Williams is a great #2 RB. Their plan must be for Dillon to take over next year.

I really want to see the year by year break down because it actually might not be too bad for GB. $62.8M in guarantees with $30M in signing bonus, probably spread over 5 years. Per year cap hit possibly looks like:

SB: $5M

Guarantees: $8.2M per year

Incentives (non-guaranteed): $3.375M per year

Bonuses (non-guaranteed): $11M (‘21), $9.5M (‘22, ‘23), ??? (‘24)

2021: up to $27.575M

2022 and 2023: up to $26.075M

2024: $16.575???

Im guessing 2022-2024 will actually be backloaded somehow and the deal will be renegotiated annually to spread out more of the money. Big numbers honestly, but when you assume that 1) the cap will go up again at some point and won’t be so restrictive and 2) we won’t have Aaron Rodgers cap hit those years it seems a little less puzzling. Just more evidence ‘21 will be the final year we have Aaron Rodgers. Spooky.

You’re thinking of this team in Mike McCarthy terms. Think of it in Kyle Shannahan terms and it makes more sense. SF offense is based around the coach and not the QB. All starts with the OL, running game, and giving skill players tons of opportunities to eat. Great vs terrible QB makes a difference obviously, but as long as the QB doesn’t make mistakes and can actually feed playmakers efficiently then the system works. System doesn’t require Aaron Rodgers to be superhuman. Is it the right path? We’ll see.

I agree. Hopefully we see a marriage of high IQ X’s/O’s and a talented QB like we have now and KC has with Mahomes/Reid. Unfortunately I think there’s a good chance we see a Shanny/Rodgers marriage in ‘22 to run that talented group of skill players.

The idea that you'd even consider moving on from Rodgers at this point is mind-boggling. I got moving on from Favre because he threatened to retire every year for each of the 2-3 years before drafting Rodgers. You have Rodgers playing at an MVP level and under contact until 2023. And it's in an era where Brady and Brees are playing well into their 40s. It just doesn't make sense.

Yup.  If you pay attention to people when asked about the cap next year, especially w/r/t Jones, there's usually a comment about "tough decisions" next year, which really just means he's not getting paid.  That's all the more true now with Bakh's contract and the fact we spent a 2nd round draft pick on Dillon.

And with Love, well, we all know he isn't going to be riding the bench for very long, whether we want that to be the case or not.
