Headed to the Jets?
I'm OK with Lucas Patrick as OC1
You can't keep everyone. A lot easier to find another Corey Linsley than an Aaron Jones.
I'm semi okay with it. He's pretty average but you could do worse I guess.
Average? Check out his numbers from last year and compare that to, say, the Vike's pathetic center....
Linsley's problem has been his durability. He had a rough transition year 1, he was a lot better year 2. He was a swinging gate year 1 at times.
Be prepared for a Seahags fan melt down via social media should Linsley not land there. Hag's fans are really banking on Schneider to do something and bolster that OL and Linsley is a favorite target. The problem is, Scheniders absolutely in the mold of TT in that he does NOT spend big money on FA's. Especially day one type signings.
And it's highly doubtful he'll last long in FA.
To be sure, the savings from Dunlap's release would be enough to help the Seahawks make a run at one of the big-named offensive linemen who are about to hit free agency such as center Corey Linsley (an All-Pro with the Green Bay Packers last season) or left guard Joe Thuney (who just played on the franchise tag with the New England Patriots). Those are the two positions where Seattle is unsettled up front.
It's not at all general manager John Schneider's MO to throw big money at offensive linemen -- or at any other position -- in March.
"You know that we're not break-the-bank free-agency people," Schneider said last offseason.
Which likely means Russell Wilson will not be any happier at the end of this week unless the Bores pull off an insane trade.
Finally, revenge for the Fail Mary. We let an all-pro C escape and they don't get him.
The #Chargers are signing C Corey Linsley to a five-year, $62.5 million deal, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. He is the new highest-paid center in the league and will get $26 million over the first two years.

So the Chargers have 2/5’s of the Packers offensive line. Balauga last year and now Linsley.

Thanks for the memories. Big time player.
Chargers need another guard for that line, which was horrific in Viking and Seahawk like ways last year. Beluga was out a lot.
I hate to see good players go. This wouldn't happen if they made poorer draft picks.
Sorry to see him go, he was a damn good player. But that money is pretty steep for a center. Glad he got paid and I wish him luck.
I love me some Elgton.
Good for him. He deserves the money but glad it wasn't the Packers shelling out that contract.
Hey, Linsley was a damned good Packer. Deserves his new big contract. But Jenkins is actually better, and they can’t pay them all.
Agreed... no knock on Linsley. He's a great ball player, but Jenkins is a bad dude.
Not as simple as saying the loss of Linsley is covered by Jenkins. So you move Jenkins to Center. But do you have then an adequate replacement for Jenkins at Guard?
I thought Linsley was a really good pick at the time and thought he played well for GB. He priced himself out of GB which is good for him. Hope he flourishes in San DiegoLA. I like their QB and he deserves some decent protection.
I'm torn as to whether it be more beneficial to play Elgton at Guard and have a dominant left side once Bak returns. Or is it better to let Elgton play his natural position and have the new Guard bookended by two studs?
Runyon at Guard.

They have at least a couple of good options already to replace Jenkins at guard.
Could bring Lane Taylor back too, depending on what interest he gets in FA.
I like the Lane Taylor idea. Thought he's been mostly good in GB. High hopes for Runyan, but he's had limited snaps. Not certain swapping Runyan at G for Linsley at C is a push, at least not right now.
Game 1 the OL could be, L-R:
Jenkins, Taylor(other FA), Patrick, Runyon, Turner
Pretty neat thing Andy Herman did here:
So if the Packers don’t end up signing any true UFAs, what comp pick would they be looking at next year for losing Linsley?
He just signed the richest contract in history for a C so...a 3rd rounder I believe

I think a lot depends on what their medical staff is seeing with Bakh's recovery. It it looks he'll miss 4-5 games to start the season it's one thing. If they don't think he'll be back until December, then they need to early to mid-round pick in another lineman or sign a mid-tier free agent to get them by.
Linsley was decent, not great. Good choice not to pay him IMO.
We still have enough talent in the interior without him and I’m sure we will add a piece in the draft.
Will be interesting to see who lines up where for game 1 with Bahk out. No Wagner means the only experienced tackle on the team is Turner. My guess is:
Jenkins LT, Runyon LG, Patrick C, Rookie RG, Turner RT.
I doubt we can afford it, but we need a swing tackle bad.
A merely "decent" player just received the highest ever contract at his position? Yeah, I think you might be wrong about him.
He wasn’t perfect but I think we will miss him like we missed Scott Wells after letting him walk. Two years of Jeff Saturday followed by Evan Dietrich Smith was too many years without a legit C.
Runyan seems legit and I’m intrigued what this Stepaniak can do now that he’s healthy. He looked good at IU prior to his injury. Bakh is an ass kicker, I expect him to be ready opening day. I would guess the line will be, depending on Bakh’s health: Bakh/Turner, Jenkins/Runyan, Patrick, Runyan/Stepaniak, Turner/Jenkins.
I just don't believe Bakh CAN be ready for opening day, but I trust the plan of the FO.

I love watching the hogs, when I go back and watch all 22 that's what I focus on.. He never really stood out to me good or bad. He is no Elgton Jenkins that's for sure.
He is also a center, which means he spends most of his time helping other OL out. Center is mostly a cerebral position. I don't think there are a lot of road-grading centers out there.

They could still bring Lane Taylor back in.
There will be some bargains...
Things I've read:
Linsley is super cerebral and sympatico with the savant at QB, he was playing 3 dimensional chess and will be an absolute godsend for Herbert. Linsley was better than Jenkins at getting after the LBs on the 2nd level, but Jenkins was more powerful in rooting out he big ass DTs. They each bring something to the table.
Like RBs, Centers are "easier" to find, but its hard to find one as good as Linsley.
The question is around how much of a dropoff is there and how does that hurt your offense ?
I don't think they'll slot Jenkins at Center, because then you can't move him around as much. Lucas Patrick is a mean & nasty guy, but he struggled in pass pro at OG in part because he can't move laterally as well as you'd like. But at Center- he doesn't have to move laterally as much - he's protected on both sides.
One of the things some teams did to GB OL ( especially when Bakh was out) - was to line up wide 9 rushers to spread the OL out - and that allowed them to attack the lesser athletes on IOL, without the OTs being close by to help out.
