Well I mean we're 8-3.

You play to get in the playoffs.  16-0 isn't getting you anywhere if you're primary ballcarrier is out at the end.

Obviously you want Jones out there as much as possible, but it does no good to overwork him.  Look at the Rams last year with Gurley and the Chargers with no Melvin Gordon for the playoffs.  It screwed them.

Just saying.  Like I said I'm mixed.  These days you need to have at least 2 running backs.  You ride one guy 16 games and you burn him out.

I'm mixed on this.  Times have changed. They barely wear pads any more and RB's get pounded to death.  They have to keep him in one piece for the playoffs.

I don't think they're ignoring him, I think they're saving him.  Don't want him on the sidelines? 25 touches a game nowadays will put him there for good.  In street clothes.

I think you're going to be upset when snaps are split between the two in the playoffs.    I hope you're right, but I don't think you are.

Really need to get rid of the "Like" button on this forum.

hahahaha

I have no beef YAYA... but the whole "like" fetish thing you have going on is quite odd.  Don't ya think?

Because being 5th in social media points on an anonymous fan board is more important than teaching kids?

Dude is on this board more during the work day than I am...and I'm retired.

I wonder if he sends report cards home with "Like" instead of A's and B's?

They bring different skill sets In the running game, so I get why the shared work. But, Jones was the featured back at UTEP and avgd over 20 touches a game his Sr year. Featuring Adams and Jones should be the priority.

If this is accurate, it's criminal.

Would like to see Aaron Jones more, but it's a passing league and featuring Aaron Rodgers is what this team does.  Still wonder how much authority Rodgers has to option out of the run and play pass.

As far as the running back load:

Aaron Jones         148 carries (4.2 ave)  and 35 receptions

Jamaal Williams   76 carries (4.4 ave) and 32 receptions

As for Anndy Herman griping about using Jones after the 49er game ...maybe they should have used Williams more based on production:

Jones 13 - 38 (2.9 ave)

Williams  11 - 45 (4.1 ave)

They couldn't use Jones more because the 49ers said that taking Jones away was the focal point of their defensive game plan.

What a crock!!  So if the Whiners had said they were taking away Jones and Williams then no RB would play?  Williams had a higher ave. because the Whiners didn't want to stop him?  You play Jones and block better no matter what the other team says.

I don't think they are saving Jones. I just think Williams has proven himself as well. He's a hard runner, catches the ball, and while he may not have the game-breaking ability of Jones, he doesn't lose yards. It's not like there's a huge dropoff when Williams is in there, as the stats everyone has given show. I think they are using Jones, but using Williams allows Jones to stay fresher in the current game and it allows Williams to get involved. Are there times Jones should be in instead of Williams? Sure, but it's hard to quibble over what I think may be 3-4 carries.

??? I believe their biggest focus was taking him away in the PASSING game. You didn't see any slow LBers covering him like you did in some other games this season. They could take him away in the run game by committing more to the box when he was in the game. Belichick has made a career of doing similar things.

JSO tracking Timesfour for content again LOL.

More action for Aaron Jones

From the beginning, Matt LaFleurโ€™s plan for Aaron Jones this season was to preserve his workload.

Jones has played more in LaFleurโ€™s offense than in former head coach Mike McCarthyโ€™s. His 428 snaps this season are 52 more than last year, and almost double his snap count as a rookie in 2017. Still, he has hardly been a workhorse. Jones ranks 16th in the NFL with 148 carries, averaging only 13.4 per game.

Jamaal Williams, meanwhile, has been used more as a complementary starter than a true backup. Williams has 76 carries this season, which ranks 46th in the NFL. Of the 15 teams with a running back getting more carries than Jones, only the Minnesota Vikings have a secondary running back getting more carries than Williams.

Vikings starter Dalvin Cook has 214 carries, and backup Alexander Mattison has 82. As a team, the Vikings rank fourth in the NFL and have 73 more carries than the Packers, so there have been many more opportunities to spread around.

Now that Jones has reached the late season healthy and preserved, LaFleur left open the possibility his star tailback could move into a more primary role, saying he could โ€œpotentially envision it happening in the future." Such a chance does not appear imminent, however.

โ€œWe have a lot of confidence in Jamaal,โ€ LaFleur said, โ€œand I think itโ€™s best for us right now to continue and have a one-two punch with those two guys.โ€

Regardless of Williamsโ€™ opportunities in the offense, LaFleur said he wants to get Jones more involved than heโ€™s been.
