Man, the second the Packers decided not to tag him I was 100% sure he was gone. I thought the talk of still working on a long term deal was just lip service to keep the fanbase quiet a little longer. And I figured Jones wanted to get every million he could out of this deal. Really happy to be wrong here!

From Tom Pelissero:

#Packers RB Aaron Jones' four-year, $48 million deal includes $20M over first two years -- a little over the cost of two franchise tags. A $7 million roster bonus is due on 3rd day of 2023 league year. So, that'll be decision time. He's due $16M in 2023 and $12M in 2024.

He's 26, so in '23 the decision will be extension or release. At 28yo and the way they use him he could have a lot of value left at that time.

Even with the WIS taxes he could bank enough off the first 2 years to live quite comfortably for a long time if he manages his earnings well.

So I'm not usually a fan of paying top dollar for a RB but I expect Jones to be great for at least 2 more years.  Unlike Zeke, Bell, Gurley, etc., Jones hasnt had the 350+ touches per year for 2-3 years prior to the deal, and likely wont have those touches going forward.  Ideally, he gets 250-275 and Dillon gets 150-175.  Of course, will he be worth $12m per year when he's only getting 250 touches a year?  I think he can but we'll see.

That’s a great contract. Counts 4.3 million against the cap this year. Nice work by Gute.

Thoughts and prayers to his family..

Alvin Jones Sr., the father of Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, died at age 57, according to a post on Aaron Jones' Instagram account.

The cause of death was not announced.

"Heart torn into a million pieces I’m so proud of you I love You Dad I promise I’ll always protect and take care of our Queen and the rest Family you’ve raise me and have been preparing vino and I for 26 years !," wrote Aaron Jones, the Green Bay Packers' starting tailback.

He added, "Can’t even imagine game days without you by my side haven’t missed a game in 9 years and it scares me to think about it but I know you have the best seat in the stadium and you’re forever engraved in me and I’ll carry our Name high and be great like you’ve pushed me all my life! I could write a book and go on and on but Now it’s time to Be a Man and Hold it down I got you Poppa."

Much respect to Jones, I was so glad he was able to stay in GB. He's a guy I think we would have regretted letting walk. We know who he is on the field, but man he just seems like a really good guy off the field.

Thrilled for this smash and dash combo. Showtime and the Quadfather

It's plausible that Henry is a better running back, but Jones far outshines him blocking and receiving.
Chubb's not even in the conversation.

That's the trouble with these kinds of lists; they're more popularity contests than anything else.

Just for pure talent, I probably take Dalvin Cook over Jones, but Jones just seems like an excellent teammate and I don't recall him missing as much time due to injury as Cook has over the years, but I could be wrong on that.  Cook might be better by a smidgen, but still very happy to have Jones on the team.

Jones' only kryptonite appears to be Tampa's defense.  They made him look very ordinary in both games last year, but they really were about the only team that I felt really had his number all year.

I'd take Jones over Cook any day. How bad is Cook? Well, he plays for the Vikings. 'Nuff said!

Two Cook issues are his health and he's prone to fumble. I know some people think Jones has a fumbling issue since his last touch was a fumble but he's not really a fumble concern overall.

He got hurt on that play as well. He got absolutely blasted.

Biceps aside, it is remarkable that a player as slight as AJ is such a tough inside runner, and that he hasn’t been injured more frequently. A simply tremendous player.

Biceps, calves and thighs - Oh My!

He's not a big guy.  That football looks huge in his arm.

Ammo's right though.  Our OL was banged up/shuffled for that game and those TB LB's are the best in the business.  Not a good combo.  I would imagine that's some of the reason behind the latest OT signing.  MLF also needs to come up with a better game plan vs the TB D.  He's 0-2 vs them and they're really the only team that gave him fits.
