I was referring to during the season.  We kept getting this tease that he would make it back late season then the playoffs and it didn't happen.  I can't remember where I read it but he had to have his knee drained I believe.

That's what concerned me.  It was pretty much a whole year, which I know is pretty normal for the average schmoe but most of these pros seem to come back in 6 to 9 months.  Not saying he's done or anything but concerning for a big guy is all.

Does it make sense to go with Walker again at LT in 2024? He's been solid enough this season to earn that opportunity IMO. Also his 7th round rookie contract, as a starting LT, will help offset the cap hit from Bakhtiari.

That way draft capital can be used for positions in more need like RG, C, NT, ILB, S, and CB.

Ideally Tenuta or Jones will also be ready to be a backup OT. Also if Nijman doesn't get interest on the FA market this off-season; maybe he comes back on a reasonable 1-year deal

I still feel we need to draft an OT and either an OG or a C this next draft. Walker has improved his play, but still needs to iron out the wrinkles, in his game.  We should ask Jordan Love what he feels about Walker being our LT. I don't think Love would have much bad to say about the protection he gets from the left side of our OL.

Walker is a 'tweener, so to speak.
He's skilled enough to be a starting LT, but he's not good enough to hold up against top-tier DEs and/or OLBs. Similar to Nijman; he's likely better suited to a backup role.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if we drafted a ready-to-play LT (NOT a 'project'!).
Walker and Nijman (if he stays) can battle it out again for the top backup spot.

Nothing against Daktari, but I don't think he can be counted on to be a full-time starter over an entire season. He can prove me wrong and I'd be happy to eat crow, but if there is a guy that is too good to pass up in the draft, I hope they pick him.

I don't believe the Packers 2024 starting Left Tackle will be found in the upcoming draft.  Very few college LTs start their NFL career as first season/game 1 starting LTs.  The very elite may, but not usually the mid/late first-rounders and below. They often start as RTs and/or slowly get worked in.  Unless they're getting a Top 10 college LT, they will most likely need another option to start 2024. I'd like to see what Baks health was like and what type of restructure is possible.

The Packers spent $ 4M on Yosh Nijman RFA tender this offseason, in part as Bakh insurance. Walker and Nijman split reps until it became clear that Rasheed was the better LT.

With one game left, Walker outsnapped Nijman 791 - 219,  allowing 5 sacks and getting popped for 7 penalties. ( only 1 for holding)

So that gives us Walker's floor:    "...he's better than Yosh Nijman"
Nijman is in year 4 of his development, Walker in year 2 and Walker didn't play on offense in Year 1

Here's Larry with some cutups on Walker from the bucs game

I could be wrong, but pretty sure Ross Verba and Chad Clifton and David Bakhtiari started as rookie left tackles.

Same deal with Mark Tauscher and Bryan Bulaga, albeit at right tackle.

Jon Michels started the 1997 season at LT and Verba replaced him after a season-ending injury.

Mike Wahle was the starting LT to begin the 2000 season with Clifton replacing him midway thru the season (not certain if injury of production).

Tauscher became the starter at RT early in 2000 season when Earl Dotson was injured and missed 13 games.

Clifton was the starter at LT in 2010 with Bryan Bulaga replacing him in week 5 as Clifton moved over to RT to replace Mark Tauscher (IR).

Bakhtiari started all 16 regular season games in 2013 after Bryan Bulaga tore his ACL in training camp.

Basically, none of the rookies were supposed to be starters.  And I'm not suggesting they can't find a competent LT in the draft to start day one (after the first couple are selected early). I just don't think it's likely.

Bakh isn't coming back. He has a $40m cap hit in the last year of his deal and Pack saves $21.5m by releasing him. Zero chance he's back at $40m so that means an extension.  If he was healthy, that would make sense but he's not.  He literally can't play.  He hasn't been able to play consistently in like 4 years.  Walker is the starter in training camp but Gute should draft an OT high.

I bet his release has already been discussed and he's cut loose pretty early in the offseason as a show of respect, so he can find his ideal landing spot (ie: the Jets).
