I bet his release has already been discussed and he's cut loose pretty early in the offseason as a show of respect, so he can find his ideal landing spot (ie: the Jets).

If Bakh stays true to his word, he won't play for the Jets on that turf, and may not play on any artificial turf. That removes more than half of his possible destinations. Of course, there are also about 40 million reasons why he might ignore his turf proclimations and go to a team with it anyway.

Bakh isn't coming back. He has a $40m cap hit in the last year of his deal and Pack saves $21.5m by releasing him. Zero chance he's back at $40m so that means an extension.  If he was healthy, that would make sense but he's not.  He literally can't play.  He hasn't been able to play consistently in like 4 years.  Walker is the starter in training camp but Gute should draft an OT high.

Bakh is likely coming back and he tweeted about it earlier this year. The Packer MDs know his knee better than any and he wants them as part of his crew as he seeks to return to playing. Starting over with new MDs is less than ideal in his view

On the contract side, the $20M from his signing bonus is a sunk cost, while the base salary will be significantly reduced & re-structured so GB has protection. Small salary, lots of incentives based on playing time.

IF his knee is good to go after the latest clean-up, GB will know during offseason OTAs and minicamp

Meanwhile, I think they'll draft a developmental OT and keep stocking the shelf
Yosh finds a new home elsewhere. He's 28 now and the Packers have taken Yosh about as far as he can go on the development side.

LT  Bakh/Rasheed/Draft pick
RT  Tom/Tenuta/draft pick

No clue on massive Caleb Jones

If we have pick 20 as our first pick, the good LTs will be gone.

Then take the top interior OL which is a much bigger need than LT currently. There should be good value at this spot in the draft and they usually can start on Week 1.

Walker has proven himself to at least not be a liability on the field - can you say the same about Myers and Runyan?

I also would like to see another big-bodied NT on the roster next year. Right now all they have is TJ Slaton.

What if he refuses to restructure?  Trade or cut?

He did tweet that he is willing to restructure. Don’t forget that Gute loves his draft picks, and even though TT drafted Bahk it was Gute’s recommendation that he do so. Gute did the scouting on Bahk.

Truly, one hell of a gem find by Gute. So much so, I am not sure that LT is a true priority in the 2024 draft. I still think Gute takes a T somewhere, but damn, finding not just Walker but also what looks to be a franchise/Pro Bowl RT in Tom is just amazing.

As others have said, getting both your new starting OT's in the back half of any draft is just cheating.  And in the same draft its just nuts.   Add a potential starting G or at least good depth in Rhyan and you're so far ahead of the odds.

Law of averages is going to say, Gute is due to draft 9 3rd rounders this spring.

That looks like a version of Reggie's hump move! It also looked like both Walker and 94 were surprised at what he did -- it was a little Cris Carter-ish from the offensive side of the ball.

That’s abuse. We barely knew you, Bacteria.

Newhouse played in the league ten years and started over 80 games for (I think) five teams, mainly at tackle, but IIRC a few at guard his last year in Green Bay. He wasn't a star by any stretch, but he was a solid journeyman who had a number of good games and held the fort.

He was no Logan Mankins as a runner, though.

If anyone says they're confident about Bakh's knee, they're lying.  He's played 14 out of a possible 50 games the last 3 years and that doesn't even include the games he started and couldn't finish. His knee is a mess and I wouldn't rust any doctor who says "all good, give him $20m guaranteed".

I'm all for bringing him back but Packers need to protect themselves. If he wants to return, he has to agree to turn his salary into incentives based on games played.  He makes the vet minimum and gets $1m per game played.  That gets him his full 2024 salary per his contract if he plays.  No more paying him to be on IR.

I like the idea and the fact that he could earn his entire contract, CU. But is there a limit as to the incentives a player's contract can have? I'm not sure if you can incentivize that much of a contact.

I agree with the second paragraph but from what I've heard regarding the knee, he had a fluid build up issue caused by a "mistake" in the original procedure.  I believe they finally corrected it in this last procedure.  IIRC.

Still, it's another opening of the knee, and that's never a good thing. A guy who is tall and big, combined with a heavier weight, added to the position played where a lineman has pressure on the knee every down, makes for a dicey situation. Bakh is right about playing on turf though: it's even worse because the grip is so much better that it adds a ton of additional stress and torque. But, once you start digging into a knee, it's never the same again.

I’d like to move on from Bahk.   Love the guy but it’s time to find the future LT and let them settle in.

Expecting him to play 17 games, or more, isn’t reasonable and I don’t think the turmoil that comes with that is worth it.

A reasonable estimate would be 10 to 12 games.   Those other 7 games you are playing your swing tackle and at real risk for disaster if he or the RT gets hurt.

He totally did the humpty hump on 94.

I'll find the clip but he also pancaked a guy and dry humped him on the ground once at Penn St.  Dude is not...polite.

Just one site's opinion

Stumbled upon a "2022 Re-Draft" in the link above.  Something that I found very interesting is the Re-Draft had Rasheed Walker going #6 overall to Carolina and is the first OL taken in the Re-Draft.

"....the Panthers select Packers seventh-rounder Rasheed Walker, who ranked second in ESPN’s pass-rush win-rate rankings among offensive tackles."

Doesn't really mean anything other than Walker's very solid second season is noticed by people other than Packers fans.

A couple of other tidbits re Green Bay:

-the Re-Draft has the Packers NOT taking Quay Walker at 22, but rather they draft CB Martin Emerson (Browns) to help in the secondary.  That said, Quay is Re-drafted five picks later by Jacksonville at pick 27 over Devin Lloyd.  The rationale being Llloyd has been good but Quay has been better.

-Devonte Wyatt is NOT picked by Green Bay at pick 28. Surprisingly, despite his injuries/lack of availability, this site thinks Christian Watson was worthy of 1st-round status based on numbers when he does play. And that's who Green Bay takes with pick 28.
