Article by Andrew Brandt about the Seahawks praising John Scheider.

John brings a strong skill-set gleaned from many years of experience despite remaining relatively young at age 42. He had two stints in Green Bay, a previous position in Seattle, a few years in Kansas City and a year in Washington. He certainly subscribes to the “draft and develop” approach honed in Green Bay and appreciates the valuable currency that draft picks represent in the modern NFL. However, John’s philosophy does not restrict talent acquisition to the draft; he will aggressively venture into free agency and trades to pursue a particular talent. He can even become fixated on certain players, as I sense happened with Percy Harvin this past offseason.

A week into the 2006 free agent period we took notice that the Raiders’ Charles Woodson, a potentially elite player, was still unsigned. We debated entering a negotiation, with me asking my usual red flag question concerning lack of interest from the incumbent team: “If the Raiders, who know him best, don’t want him back, then why should we want him?” Additionally, chasing a player like Woodson was not in our DNA.

John, however, pressed the issue: Woodson was available and could help us; everything else was secondary. After a month of difficult negotiations—Woodson was ambivalent about joining the Packers even though we were offering significantly more than any other team—we finally reached an agreement. John spearheaded the effort to acquire Woodson, who went on to become Defensive Player of the Year for the Packers and was one of the truly impactful free-agent signings in NFL history.

Perhaps Schneider's departure is why TT has dabbled less and less in UFA.

Let's not forget Ted fired Brandt.

I enjoy Brandt's commentary, and he is typically effusive about his time with the Packers (which is part and parcel of Brandt's "insider" persona), but it's interesting this article has nary a mention of TT.

I thought Brandt left after the bogus controversy over his not paying the protection racket (er, he was "disbarred" for not paying the bar fee), but was still listed as the team's general counsel.

I was... wrong.  sh*t, and I even googled it before typing cuz I didn't remember him being let go.  thanks for setting my Packer history straight.  I'll slink off to lick my wounds now....

that's not true.  Brandt left after not getting Harlan's job.

show me a link where TT fired Brandt if you believe otherwise.

i didn't have much to stay for though since tt is a cap man too.

That's racist.

I'll have you know my family has a looooong history of working hand in... hand and providing ample employment for African Americans. As a matter of fact here's my great great grandma Beatrice welcoming a new employee (she was the HR rep).

Racist indeed.

Schneider will be the favorite to replace ted when he goes. From gb, worked with packers, his wife introduced McCarthy to his wife, his pops works with doc Mckenzie. Lots of connections. Plus ted could probably ease into a smaller role under him.

Dorsey and Elliott are b and c IMO.

Because he's a De Pere native and it's dream job plus I think he would have more control over football operations. Doesn't he report to Carrol? With the Packers he would be second in command under Murphy. I think money bags Allen will try and out bid the Packers and keep him around though...money talks we all know.

Nice for a GM to have that on his resume'

I can see John wanting to get away from Carroll. After TT retires, In Green Bay, John would have full control over everything. He doesn't have that in Seattle as Pete has a lot of say in personnel. No amount of money can replace the ability to have 100% say in football decisions.
