Brought to you by the POS SCOTUS who gave us Citizens United. I'm shocked.
and the descent continues...
What could go wrong??
I bet this won't end well.
What are the odds?
Is the x4 betting forum up and running yet?
I bet my house on House taking it to the house!
My favorite part: "The law was passed out of concern that sports gambling might change the nature of sporting events from wholesome entertainment to a device for gambling."
Sports, by its nature, is zero sum. For every winner there is a loser. That is the attraction. That's why leisure activities like fishing, ice skating and dancing wind up as competitions,
Which ostrich thinks gambling hasn't always been the single largest driver of sports viewership?

If gambling is first I think bacon potato skins are a close second.
This ostrich.
And yet I take your point. Look at all the passing rule changes. I'm sure it was for the wholesomeness of the sport. Hell, professional sports does a decent enough job ****ing up the sport on its own but why not bring in the experts.

I think you're overlooking the wings cartel.

Well, yes. the SCOTUS can be a POS. But not on this issue.
There are still many more important decisiions coming up. (and ones from the past that are worse POS already!).
so, let's save the POS for the issues that really matter.
Gas pipe. Do it.
I'm literally daring you to step in this bear trap.
Tell me, what is Citizens United btw?
Legalized bribery for $100, Alex.
It makes sense, doesn't it? After all, a corporation is much larger than a person. Shouldn't its influence reflect that? Think how badly a one man/one vote policy discriminates against the Trinity?
George Soros. Gas Pipe. Google him. Bad man. Worse than corporations.
No need to google him, InfoWars tells all.
God, I want to put money down on this debate. If only it were legal.
Do it Sideshow! I'm sure TimesFour has a line in Vegas now!
Pretty sure the world is coming to an end.... again.
My world ended at the end of "The Crying Game."

A group of people who wanted to show a movie. FedGov tried to say, nope, you don't have the right of assembly or the free speech rights to do it.
It should have been a 9-0 "F*** off, slaver" decision in favor of Citizens United. The fact that it wasn't is the POS part of the decision.
Whelp. When you put it that way. Then yes.

BS. For 137 years the Supreme Court had held that Corporations were NOT people. Not entitled to the same free speech rights. Your summary of it is simplistic.
hmmm.
Maybe SCOTUS' opinion....has "evolved" over the years then. ?
right? They didn't change an opinion....it just "evolved".
Corporations are groups of people. And demos.org obviously in an equal say for all if they're looking to restrict the natural rights reinforced by 1A.
when a corporation is put in jail for murder I'll believe in Citizens United
until then, legalized bribery
next thing you know we'll be letting corporations get married
Geez, now I don't know if "mergers" refers to marriage or sex.
Next thing ya know George Soros will buy influence to make our country into a socialist cumbag like Venezuela.
Oops. Already happening out here in the San Diego District Attorney race. He wants a D.A. that will be lenient with criminal activity. Yikes!
He's a bad man.

Which bathroom can they use?
corporations **** wherever they want to
other than the obvious oppression on Italian Americans, why should anyone care?
I mean, even the conservative Christians have been willing to turn a blind eye to "sinful behavior" and long as they can control the exit strategy of the vagina.
I guess I was under the impression that there already was gambling...
I don't think Christians are turning a blind eye to the "sinful behavior" of the far left socialist agenda. First things first.
hey Dr. Bob: you should've bet on the number of pages this thread will be....I'll bet the OVER.
I bet the UNDER. You will get this thread shut down soon.

I'm confident neither side can lay claim to the title of "best Christian." From either side, if it is a sin you are not planning on committing, it automatically becomes worse (murder, homosexuality, etc,) but we can turn a blind eye to those things that better fit our agenda, like not caring for the poor and downtrodden or recognizing how wretched we all are and unfit to pass judgment on anyone else. Similarly we can claim Clinton was unfit to lead because he got head but Trump's whoring around is none of our business or vice versa. I can respect some internal consistency, but I sit in the pew every Sunday for that message of since you are such a piece of ****, you (be) best be kind to everyone.
Except online. To many dumb****s feel they can talk **** without thinking online. I think of it as purgatory, neither here nor there.
The band...
In my opinion being able to bet money on something like a game can sometimes effect the game. Thankfully itâs very rare but all it takes is one key person to take a bribe and change the outcome of a game. Of course that can happen with illegal gambling as well as legal. I think itâs a can of worms to make it legal. Yet, the court was right because gambling has been left up to the states anyway.
Come on ElKa. Be consistent.
You were the one that thought it was so cute to bring up Christians when you had no business bringing religion into this thread. So get off your high horse.
Look at you! I go to church, too. But I don't call other people vulgar names. I guess that's just the church you go to.
come on Bob. Henry turned this thread sideways with his stupid comment about Citizens United. pay attention.
Back to the original reason for this thread: If States can make money on their gambling and help their budget expenditures...then why not more states that just Nevada? It's not like betting would stop if SCOTUS ruled the other way.
SanDiegoPackFan posted:Look at you! I go to church, too. But I don't call other people vulgar names. I guess that's just the church you go to.
mea culpa
You are the better Christian
Bill Hicks doesn't think so.
sorry EKB. I wasn't trying to say or imply that. We can have different political views and still want to help the needy and pray for others in need.

Pay attention? The difference is you routinely over respond yet without any knack for humor. There are a couple of chaps in the Vikings Suck thread that you would get along well with.
Can Paul Hornung sue the NFL for lost wages and benefits now? How about Pete Rose or any other sports figure punished for betting on a team? Most of the rookie players in the NFL have next to no experience with how to deal with the sudden influx of money that has come into their lives. Now, they will be able to make bets using their new personal fortunes. What could go wrong? And to think everyone had concerns about moving an NFL team to Las Vegas. Thanks a lot SCOTUS!
Iâm not a gambler so this doesnât mean much to me- but when franchises and leagues are talking about âintellectual propertyâ you see what this is really about- the last great source of untapped revenue to control (leagues) and tax (govt). If you canât see that youâre not seeing the forest for the trees.

SDPF....now are YOU paying attention?!
Vindicated:
"A 2015 study by the AGA said NFL gamblers represented just 25 percent of all NFL fans, yet 47 percent of all the minutes of NFL football broadcast. They also watched 19 additional games. The AGA predicts once legal, sports bettors will increase to 50 percent of the viewing audience." Dan Wetzel- Yahoo sports
AGA= American Gaming Association ie Casinos

Agree, MC. It's always about the money. "Show me the money." "Greed is good." "Follow the money." "Green is the new gold." etc., etc.
Sorry I had hurt your feelings, guys. I'll try to be more sensitive next time.

I'm always paying attention, Boris. I just don't know how to be a cyber bully yet. But I keep reading others' posts and I'm getting quite an education here at TimesFour. Thanks.

And yet you just referred to a whole country as "cumbags" earlier in this thread. I think you already have a mentor. He doesn't post at X4 but I hear he tweets a lot.

Come on Sideshow! READ carefully. And be honest. Don't be like the media that takes things out of context. That message was to the country....not the people. Georgie Soros want socialism just like the leaders of Venezuela. Why do you the people are revolting? That country is a mess. Stop being so offended at things like that and pay attention to what is going on in the world. Geessh!
You've convinced me. You overwhelmed me with your wit and intellect. Venezuela is a cumbag country.
Do you always do this on TimesFour? You really don't need to be like that. I don't know you but it seems you get so disagreeable with only certain posters. Is it because you think you're somehow better than them?
All I do is respond to posters who present one side of a discussion. You might not agree with me. But if you had to respond to every poster who didn't say something nice you wouldn't have enough time to do it.
Why did I know this would turn into a political discussion.
I think I'll go back to discussing anything with Brown Paper Sack
I am the biggest pussy buster on this board, haven't you been keeping up? I live for the fight, I thrive on conflict, I thirst for blood. I have Buster Keaton spelled out on my knuckles... that's right, I have 6 knuckles on each hand. But my post count is strictly limited by the warden so I tend to be brief. Oh, and I'll be expecting all your cigarettes in the morning.

When the moderators allowed Henry to divert it back in the beginning on page 1. You want to make me out to be the bad guy here? Fine. Sorry for talking politics like everyone else has done in this thread.
Gambling and Sports is a big topic. Keep the focus on that.
Back on topic: What is wrong with a State having it's only Gambling operation for Sports. They do it with the lottery. Nevada seems to be doing just fine with its State Budget and no state taxes. Now that they have a pro sports franchise - the corruption aspect has been nullified. I guess the only thing is you cannot bet on any state team or college team if you had State-sponsoring betting.
Why should Nevada and Native American Gaming get all of the gambler's $$$$...put it towards feeding the hungry or housing the poor or schools.

No he will not be able to and neither will todays players be allowed to bet. It has/had nothing to do with states being allowed to legalize gambling. It has to do with player contracts prohibiting them from betting on all NFL games. If AR12 or any other player wants to bet eleventy billion dollars on MLB I really don't care. Bet on NFL games, he's toast.
